  1. @clairelangton I have just ran as a test user and found out the reason why, it seems each update is a simple self extraction file which installs the updated files to the directory which the program is installed and overwrites the previous ones, each 7zip extraction file has a different version and this is why it will not run for us as I had set the rule to run just the exe of the first update Doh! Will have to work out how I can allow each incremental version to run with a file rule as I already have the path rule for that folder allowed! Ohh such fun with good software!
  2. We too have been having problems which I thought I had sorted, apparently the software when installed creates a folder called "Temp" which it installs 7Zip decompiler and the users have to have full permissions to run this software as this is what it uses to install the updates, I did create file rules which allowed the users to run this and it worked a treat but ever since for whatever reasons it no longer doesn't want to work now, still looking into it as we speak. I really love software which runs smoothly don't you?
  3. It Seems I have struck lucky and only one payment has come out of my PayPal account and has been completed, On another note it seems that my bank account online statement has 3 pending transactions all for the same PayPal number and only one has the Chinese company's name who is dealing with the order, the other 2 just have the transaction code from Paypal and a -NIL as the amount! Curiouser and curiouser!
  4. We don't use keyboards and mice anymore just touchscreen monitors with embedded keyboard just like their mobile phones.............................only thing is they keep dropping them out of their pockets and smashing the screens...........hehe! Only joking we have a similar situation and as @FN-GM has said its a classroom management issue not a technical one! Until SLT turn around and say.........................HOW MUCH!!! for the replacement ones we have to purchase every year and officially do something about tightening up the classroom management of any classroom then we will continue to buy more. Simple!
  5. @Garacesh
  6. @Arreks PayPal back after global fault hit every account Monday night - 05 Oct 2015 - Computing News I think this maybe what the answer to yours and my problem was and is!!
  7. Well, today my FB account was logged out on my phone and when I went to log in again it wanted me to upload a photocopy of my driving license, well..................I didn't and now I am FB free yeeha!! They can have my account but not my ID sorry FB but this is a bridge too far!!
  8. Currently all Windows 7 and have been for the past 6 - 7 years (Feb 2009) seems like we are at a place as we were with XP, great OS pretty much solid throughout so my thoughts............!!! Will probably move to Windows 10 next year (Summer Hols) all being well
  9. @loculzuk Same here but as I stated not the A-130s model but the higher spec A-145s I did hear from someone who bought in a batch of the first model released A-130 and had overheating problems, that is why I went for the higher spec model. So far so good, just hope when they do decide to give up the ghost that they do it in one's and twos not all at once Didn't purchase all in one go but in batches of 10s over a couple of years so should be ok
  10. @localzuk We have 50 Casio's not the A-130 ones but the A-145's and most are now out of warranty (5 years) and still going strong, really pleased with the quality and the cost factor. Plus maintenance costs to replace bulbs and clean etc etc.
  11. @Michael Its all installed across the network here and currently seeing no problems as such will keep an eye on it and update if necessary, thanks for the heads up though
  12. @abillybob It seems a little extravagant to spend £150 each on presents for friends but then again if you have the money it's yours to spend how you wish, my advice to my son and daughter is advice I gained many many years ago from a very wise man who spake thus about money, "Spend half save half! and if you cannot afford to save and buy then don't buy!" This advice I have always took and it has worked extremely well over the years. Its up to you how you spend your hard earned money
  13. Purchased thanks to @littlehoops Thank you
  14. @Garacesh @littlehoops PM sent
  15. @Bev Its for when you create your users of the system, they can be categorized into departments from the dropdown menu, Have a nice day
  16. @mike_ash Adobe actually now have a licensing model similar to Microsoft EE and it is done by your staff count rather than computers or students, I actually was impressed with the quote I got from "Softcat" yesterday which had the Adobe cloud as one of the quotes I had asked for and it was far less than what you have been quoted, PM me for details.
  17. @edutech4schools Do you have any other drives in the server? If so you could try moving the swap file over to a different drive this could be worth a few Gigs!
  18. @howartp At the moment I have say period 1 marked up for all the days of the working week, how would I say have period 1 Monday, period 1 Tuesday etc etc, Is it as simple as naming the period and marking which day you want that period for? Excuse me for being a little dense here Any pictures of how you have it setup would be good Thanks in advance
  19. @tom_newton @timbo343 @howartp Where do I start to setup the days of the week? Any help would be much appreciated
  20. @SHimmer45 Have created a package in PDQ deploy and it installs successfully but still shows as not detected when the user logs in to the exam, we can however still use the Java route which works quite well!! Thank you for your info on this as the PDF document gives no indication of this mysterious plugin and the helpdesk is practically useless when you eventually get to speak to someone!
  21. Well it seems that they haven't quite managed to get Java out of the way, I have ran all the tests from their website and I get all green ticks (see pics): As you can see all seems well! Well you would be wrong because when the student user logs into the website it runs the same test but comes up with "error" in red on the plugin, when you click help it goes on about a plugin not being installed!! If you read the PDF document from them it doesn't mention anywhere about a plugin!!! Infuriating or what? Rang the helpline and they hadn't got a clue and asked me loads of questions which the answer was yes to them all and then they told me they would have to escalate to their IT support as they had no idea!!!! Why do they have the tests to see if you meet the requirements and then when trying to take the tests does it come up with some other useless error!! Got exams tomorrow hehe! should be fun
  22. @Arthur Cheers, done and already installed site wide, Thanks for the info
  23. Hi all, I have setup 2 policies which are linked to a security group in AD so that I can add or take away users from these groups at will without having to alter the policy, the only problem I have is that in the "when" I have timed access with the school day in timed periods but would like to take this a little further in actually having another field called "which" for the days of the week so that I could fasten the policy down to a set period on a specific day, does anyone know how this can be done and if so how? Also it would be helpful if Smoothwall had the option of setting up a 2 week timetable, does anyone else feel the same or am I being plain blind and it already has these features? Please respect my ignorance on this matter as I am getting old hehe! Appreciated
  24. We had a narrow escape but thankfully only three workstations were infected, took them off the network immediately and rebuilt, checked out all the file servers for registry entries and also ran scans on all of the servers using Avast for business, we found one exe which had a number for its name in a users Appdata which Avast had quarantined and 4 files on the root folder of one mapped drive but no encrypted files, I have since turned up our security even tighter with whitelisting the appdata files through GPO and tightened up on our e-mail server with all known files extensions which are dodgy as well with the Spam filters on to the max in Zimbra, Clam antivirus updated to latest version and the users all locked down tight as I can possibly get them, I wouldn't mind though, the previous evening we had a safeguarding presentation from the LA and the presenter warned all staff about being extra vigilant with e-mails as there had been a spate of really bad ones which had caught a number of schools out. The next day we were hit and I have been on alert for the past 2 weeks, I have now been asked to open up the network with this damned BCS exams software from Enlight which requires of all things "Macros to be enabled!!!" in Excel plus totally reliant on Java, the website doesn't even have a decent certificate as our internet explorer came up with untrusted certificate when I first went to access it, absolutely ludicrous that the BCS of all societies should allow another company to run its exams in such a shoddy way!! Why did they not use Pearson as everyone else does? I could go on but I feel my role is getting increasingly more complex and frustrating as each term comes along does anyone else feel that way? Avast does claim that their product does detect all known variants of the cryptlocker ransomware but there maybe unknown variants out there just have to educate the Staff into being extra vigilant when accessing their e-mail and websites. Have fun everyone and listen "Lets be careful out there!"
  25. I too have had certain admin staff (not many) having crashes which some relate to a null reference not related to an object! This is from our exams officer whilst doing just basic tasks like entering ULN numbers or accessing marksheets which she used to have no problems with, we migrated during the Summer to Server 2012R2 with SQL2014 and all is patched to the latest revision, Monitoring it at the moment as it is not that regular, not had any issues with speed yet even though it is virtualised (Hyper-V) 4 CPUs and 10GB RAM (only used 9.2GB to date) Login times 6 - 8 secs average 150 clients.
