Hi all, Don't want to hijack this thread but also didn't want to duplicate with another digital signage thread! Question? Has anyone had experience of this free digital signage Thinking of moving forward with this as an inexpensive cloud solution for our digital signage, would also like to ask what 32" display screen have people used or if not that size what make and model for reliability and cost? Would value any input on this, thank you all in advance

@Rob_D Had mine 4 years and not a problem, just recently had the new upgrade for free and its as good if not better than before, for free its a no brainer and also the best free ISP router available, Maybe your parents have a faulty one? could be that they may require the new upgraded version? BT have the most complaints of all ISP's around their cheap routers! You can please most of the people all of the time but not all of the people all of the time! Have a good day

@localzuk Change your ISP to talk talk as they have the most extensive router for free of any ISP, I have 29" thick walls and I still have an exceptional wireless signal which reaches out to the edges of our property with all our devices attached and streaming TV from 2 Firestick Kodi installs, Why pay for a router when you can get a decent one for free, BT routers have always been pants anyway! @techie08 The workstation will require a reboot to apply the template, this is what I have experienced in the past, once a workstation has been setup if you remove that client from the web interface and then install the setup software again it usually remembers the settings (not 100%) just check to make sure.

@techie08 I use separate templates for different devices makes the job that much easier by definition.

@manick We've just gone down this route our setup is as follows: 2 x Dell poweredge R710s Spec: Dual Xeon 12 core, 196GB Ram, 2 x 146GB sas drives mirrored, Quad Nics teamed for failover Backend storage: Synology RS3614xs+ with 4 x 450GB SSDs for fast caching and 8 x 8TB sata drives for storage and have both units setup in a failover cluster with heartbeat. Setup: Server 2012R2 on both Dell servers: Hyper-V cluster with DPM and offsite backup Licensing: EES data centre Slightly more than £20k (£5k more) but should be able if you use refurbished servers from ICTDirect. We do have another synology unit with 32TB extra storage which we have for backup storage and data. IOPs galore with the SSD fast caching on the synology so that shouldn't be a problem. We have never purchased hardware from RM, we have built our own and also bought refurbished from @ICTDirect_Dave and as long as you have the right NIC drivers your laughing, never had any problems and ICTDirect will let you have a test unit before you purchase so you can be sure, also have purchased some laptops from them just recently and they build onto the network no problem. Give them a shout

We just ask the user to bring in their unit or whatever device they are using from home and we will sort out at a premium after school, I feel it is in their best interest if they want to work from home but they should not expect an out of school service unless SLT are prepared to pay for it (Which I doubt they would). I have a car but would not expect the local garage which services it to provide out of hours maintenance when I cannot use it, I would have to pay a premium for a home service call out wouldn't I? Same goes for IT!

@Oaktech Just out of asking which units does your school advocate? BTW we don't run the licensed versions but as I have stated on here we haven't had any problems from interference or scanners trying to intercept or abuse our radio communications. For the cost I think they are value for money much more than a cheap set of walkie talkies. For what is communicated over them there is nothing which could be of any importance to someone scanning our frequencies! As I have said our staff use a strict protocol over the airways when using them.

@Oaktech It would in my eyes have to be some form of encryption as each device would have to be able to unscramble the signal and the only way I see that happening is with each device having its own scramble and unscramble keys hardcoded into the chipsets would it not? Don't actually know for sure but as I understand there are 2 models, the licensed and the unlicensed with voice scramble, I don't actually know if ours are licensed and encrypted but will find out for you. As others have stated on here we also have strict protocols for staff who use them also.

@soveryapt We use this company and the Motorola ones, we have been using them for years, they seem to fit the bill very well, a little on the expensive side but very good quality and they do last so money well spent.

We have no issue with the plugin atm but just one question (32) which allows the users in the first part to access the z: drive to open the word document for mail merge but when trying to merge the given accounts from a spreadsheet won't allow them to access the z: drive again, absolute nonsensical...............!!! We actually took a video of it and sent it to them and as yet we have had nothing back except their pointing to the guidance document stating (Not to hide any drives from the users!!) What!! Absolutely bonkers, then there is the enable all Macros for the users regardless that they are not digitally signed and that this constitutes a veritable hole in the security of that users account...............as if we don't have enough on our plates with all this malware, spyware, virus and ransomware and now radicalisation. What next I ask Sorry for the rant but it boils my p*ss

@Oaktech Thank you but not what I require, what I am looking for is a letter which a school would send out to the parents of a student who has wilfully damaged IT equipment i.e. Broken the screen of a TFT or deliberately broken a keyboard etc to which the school requires payment in lieu of said damage, a little like an invoice of a sort, Thank you all in advance

@MadSmiler It is good to get the theory plus the qualification which coupled with experience is invaluable. To get an interview these days employers are looking for upwards of level 4 qualifications with the possibility of Microsoft certs, this is before you can get through the door. Once through that door you can then use your experience to show them you are the right person for the job, in my eyes you require both.
