Hi, I have been asked to look into a Tannoy system for use a lock-down event and possibly radio station in future. I have been quoted for a Analogue and IP based system. I even looked into UAP‑AC‑EDU Ubiquiti AP with speaker (problem with that was that we would need speaker in every class and not an AP in every class) The advantage of a Chromecast is the cost and the fact it wireless and only needs a standard 5v USB power source (although a sufficiently loud speaker would not get enough power from 5V 1A I guess) I suppose anywhere with mains power (and all classrooms have this) and Wifi coverage will be ok. Need to look into cheap Wifi Streaming speakers with about 20-30W power output. Something like the Libratone but doesn't have to look nice. Hardest part I suppose is the software side.

Hi, Has anyone installed these UAP‑AC‑EDU? They are a Ubiquiti AP and a Public Address / Tannoy speaker combined. Ingenious! Our head is looking for a Tannoy system and I have had several expensive quotes for IP based and Analogue system. I preferred the IP based system obviously. We also do not have any IP phones yet as I am aware that you can build a Tannoy system on top of VOIP technology. Then I found the UAP‑AC‑EDU and as were have shortlisted Ubiquity for our overdue Wifi refresh it seems perfect for us. I have no ideas of cost though. Has anyone any experience of these? Main issue is that we would probably need more speakers than AP's as having a speaker in every class would be required if the class is being noisy a speaker in the corridor would probably not suffice. Perhaps this is more suited for Lecture Theatres where there would be one AP per Theatre.

Any suggestions for Portable PA with built in Wireless Mic receivers? Found this Coomber on but it's pricey as its made in the UK but want to keep it simple for teachers to use themselves. Coomber Portable Amplifier with audio controls 2410 Any cheaper alternatives? Need 2 wireless receivers and 2 additional mic inputs (Coomber only has 2 mic faders for wireless OR wired) and USB/SD playback is desirable.

Thanks for getting back to me. The sidebar option is greyed out in the view menu. It is greyed out in the photos view and the albums view. I managed to get videos by choosing albums and then videos as you would on iOS. Not sure why I couldn't see that option yesterday when I was looking. The photos I am dealing with have no geolocation data but will try your method again with some that do. Thanks again

Is there a way of viewing only videos in the photos app that replaced iPhoto and apature? Also cannot view photos by geolocation as you can in iOS version of app. I actually want to export videos from iOS devices without using windows as it crashes explorer.exe if I try to copy large videos (over 50-100 MB) I know that you can drag out photos and videos from the photos app to finder and it will export (and recompress from MOV file to M4V file too with lower resolution) I just want to be able to filter the view in photos app to show only videos so I can select all the videos easily in one go. Currently the only way I can do it is to export every photo and video and then filter by kind in finder. Is there a third party app that will do this? UPDATE: Kind of a fix is the following: N.B. the original files are kept here so guess I could filter by kind in folder but if they are all on different dates then they will be spread across subfolders according to date taken. ~/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary/Masters/ Still would like to view only videos in Photos app.

It seems they do distribute a MSI but you have to register. I tried registering but think you have to then pay to get access to it!!!! Typical money grabbing Oracle!! MSI Enterprise JRE Installer FAQ https://docs.oracle.com/javacomponents/msi-jre8/install-guide/ It seems Oracle are trying to say that the extracted MSI is not suitable for zero touch installations and do not support it. I'm guessing they want to charge an arm and a leg for the enterprise MSI. If you install the extracted MSI via GPO will the java install update itself or not? GRRRRR I HATE JAVA EVEN MORE NOW I KNOW THIS!!!!!!

Very ambitious project but could be easier a task than open street maps arguably as the upload and stitching of photos is automated.

Creating Limits on Mapped Home Folders
Alis_Klar replied to angrycomputingteacher's topic in How do you do....it?
Using File Server Resource Manager on Windows Server (assuming you are using a Windows Server and not Samba on Linux) you can add an auto apply quota on the parent folder so that the quota applies to every new users folder created under that parent folder. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731577(v=ws.11).aspx -
School geofencing happened with Yik Yak so it'll probably happen with Pokemon Go. If it's this bad when the only availability of the app is unofficial APKs imagine how bad it'll be when it is released in the UK officially. On the flip side the reasons for the delay in a UK release may be that they are still busy removing inappropriate locations.

@m25man I would agree that the newer Chinese Lenovo stuff is not as good as the ex IBM stuff. You are right that the "think" branded stuff is better on the whole but you do get what you pay for.

@apearce Would this work with BGfL365 IDaaS authentication?

Has anyone looked into mapping a drive to sharepoint/OneDrive? there is a discussion of the RM drive mapper here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/167584-rm-onedrive-mapper.html there is also this https://www.iamcloud.com/cloud-drive-mapper/
-
Instead of mapping a drive directly to OneDrive why not have a hybrid solution where your on-prem file server (or a dedicated Windows VM running windows 10 and logged into your on-prem AD domain) has the OneDrive sync client installed and syncs the shared drives to OneDrive on one account. If there are too many changes per second for the sync engine to cope then you could split the load amongst several VM's each with a different onedrive account. Would also split storage quotas too. Microsoft should offer a enterprise class sync client for file servers. So you get the best of both cloud and on-prem storage.

Sorry i'm hijacking thread. Watched explaining work folders and didn't get the impression it allowed shared folders or had a web interface. Guess there is no way to enforce security if you can download files to untrusted PC's. That's the problem with solutions like foldr. Foldr works really well though does lower security. At least with Office 365 you can open a version in Word or Excel online in a browser and save it back to cloud copy. Foldr also uses the sharepoint plugin to allow you to edit the online copy and save back to the server without forking the document.

Is there any way of making work folders work with shared drives? I.E. more than one user is accessing the folder? Can someone confirm there is no web interface for work folders?

Does seem to be a blind spot in Microsoft's vision. Guess just acting as a dumb file repository in the cloud is low profit/benefit for MS. So much confusion between onedrive sync client versions and sharepoint folders etc. Do you still require One drive for Business (groove.exe) to sync sharepoint folders?

ICTRambling is referring to the Outlook / Acompli app that caches data from office 365 including login credentials. I believe that the Acompli data centres are in the US still. However now Microsoft has bought them they will be bringing that in house ASAP. They may already have done this and will therefore be hosting ex-Acompli services in the EU. I will continuee to recommend the app as Microsoft are not a small obscure player and if we are not trusting MS a little then how paranoid are we? https://4sysops.com/archives/is-microsofts-outlook-app-for-ios-and-android-insecure/

Does anyone know the best way to create a shared staff calendar? Looks like the default sharepoint staff calendar is not well supported on Mobile (not even the swanky OUTLOOK/Acompli app). An exchange calendar cannot be shred with the whole group only individuals. Also trying to figure out the best way to have a shared staff drive. Think here the choice of sharepoint is a little more straightforward pending the groove.exe issues you may experience. The Mobile experience with the onedrive for business mobile app is actually very good. Once you add your accounts sharepoint sites appear automatically on iOS app if you have set up a sync with staff site using onedrive for business (groove.exe)

Link2ICT have fixed this now by changing their proxy filtering rules. There was some discussions as to the security of the new Outlook app (acquired Acompli) but ultimately we thought the benefits outweighed the risks. See https://blog.winkelmeyer.com/2015/01/warning-microsofts-outlook-app-for-ios-breaks-your-company-security/

To be fair we are not the core customer for BGfL365. Those who are gonna complain about lack of admin rights are not really requiring the hand holding approach of BGfL365. I think Link2ICT know this and will expect some schools with their own technicians to drop out from this offering. The core customer is the small primary with no fulltime technical staff and t is a hardpressed ICT co-ordinator (teacher) who has to sort all the ICT in the school (usually with the help of an external company providing ICT services) Having said this I think Link2ICT should consider adapting from the one size fits all approach they are taking at the moment. I guess once all the migrations are completed they may have more resources to react to schools who are clamouring for more control over their BGfL365.
