I use Premiere Elements 8 in school and Pro CS4 at home. They both have a habit of crashing for no apparent reason, usually at 95% of a rendering or export that has been going all night. I think it's something to do with being Adobe product but to be fair, video processing is very software and hardware intensive. Before doing any processing, I always save the project, close down any other applications and once running, I avoid touching anything until it has finished. I've also found exporting to an iso is more reliable than going straight to disk and doesn't create another coffee coaster if it does fail.

If this doesn't resolve it take a look at the usb devices in Device Manager. You should have a specific Smart driver for the usb-serial converter but I've had instances where there was a generic driver in places and the Smart one wouldn't go over the top. If you only have the generic one, try removing it and rebooting with the board connected.

As teachers get younger and less have class D on their licence, I'm having to do more minibus driving. Usually, it's to football matches and the like but today I took some Y7 kids to :Worcester 6th Form College to see their performance of Miss Saigon. There are some talented kids out there and it was excellent. A great afternoon out.

The problem has been fixed in version 5.1.4.5 and the clients should have auto-updated. Some have, some haven't. I thought the answer might be to use their Force tool, to uninstall PC and then reinstall. This tool takes a while to work and the only way to monitor its progress in via Task Manager. So I've tried running it on a couple of computers, whilst I was at lunch. Just come back and nothing has happened. Considering we are paying for this stuff, it's not very good.

Get a big sheet of perspex and some sealant. Fix the perspex, across the inside opening of the window bay and seal it. Fill the window area with water and put in some goldfish. Sorted.

No, the mouse cursor will tend to be top right of the text box and the mouse will be just in front of the laptop on the right hand side. As I move my hands up to type, I automatically push the mouse a few inches to the right, so it's not in the way of my right arm as I type. The cursor will only move a couple of inches and invariably stays inside the text box. I don't hit any mouse buttons. I thought it might be a combination of the shift key and moving the mouse, as I normally type the first letter in capitals (I went to school when that was considered important) but I can't replicate the problem. It only seems to happen the first time after opening the text box. I'll try updating the mouse drivers.
