I mentioned in a previous thread that one of our cleaners had asked me to look at her Advent netbook. The HDD was totally knackered and I told her I could get a replacement on Ebay and, as the COA was rubbed away, I would probably have to get a replacement copy of Windows, so it would cost her in excess of £50. She said it wasn't worth it and next day gave me the netbook. I found an 80GB drive and with the help of a couple of members got XP Home running and now I have a nice little netbook. I gave the cleaner £30. Was I being fair? She seemed happy with the money.

Something I don't understand with 5.1, I get an Activity report for a word or phrase but when I look at the screen image, there's no trace of that word. In V4 the word would be displayed even if the enter key wasn't pressed.

That could be it. It doesn't exactly answer the problem as described but I think that might be down to the description.

Our Asst Dep Head has been complaining for a week or so that when he is typing, portions of text will randomly change position. Now the Dep Head has said the same has happened to her. When I suggested it was the huge brain waves they generated, the ADH said the same thing happens on his laptop at home. The computers are Toshiba Satellite A200s and I'm wondering if the users might be hitting the CTRL key as they type and activating a shortcut. Has anyone else seen anything similar?

As it happens, we use prm greentech to take our hardware and they have said they can take the lamps as well.

Probably been discussed before but how do you dispose of them. I take ours to the local tip where they have a facility for fluorescent and halogen lamps.

I don't think your household policy will cover it. I've got around 40 fence panels and it's happened a lot to me. First thing I try is to get the stump out of the concrete. I screw a big eye bolt into the top of the stump and then use a pick axe to lever the stump out. If it comes out then bingo, just get another post and drop it in. If not, then chisel out the concrete on the side facing your property and get godfathers from Travis Perkins plus some ready-mix post concrete. It really isn't that difficult. If I can do it, then anyone can.

Thanks to Michael, I've at long last managed to uninstall the machines that weren't updating and they are now all running 5145.

We don't have XP Home in school. I have run the laptop using XP Pro and our VLK to make sure everything else was ok and the OEM drivers worked. I can get Windows 8 Pro through the LEA for £50 but I question if it's worth it. I have considered Linux but it's for my granddaughter so there might be a support issue! That's interesting. The label is too well stuck on and would come off in a pieces but I'll see if I can find out more. Maybe they'll accept a pic.

I think the drive is physically dead. If I out it in a caddy explorer stalls and it's making some very funny noises.
