What's the neighbourhood like? Are you likely to find cars parked in your spaces. Does nextdoor have teenage kids with drumkits? Is it on the main route from town to the estates?

I put one on the roof of our school, with a display in Y7. I don't think anyone has so much as looked at it.

We have a light fitting in the kitchen with four 50w GU10 lamps. A couple blew last night and I replaced them with some 20w ones I had lying around. So two 50s and two 20s makes the kitchen a bit dim. I know nPower will object but I'm considering replacing them with 6w LEDs. I have the option of daywhite or warmwhite. Anyone know which would be better for a kitchen? I'd guess daywhite.

I got some Hitachi ones that were just the lamp. I had to unscrew the old lamp from the assembly and attach the new lamp. Comparably cheap and "greener" than the other options.

This is what we are hoping. I guess there will be an initial novelty period but some will stick with it.

We have been allocated a pot of money (c.£7K) to target Y7 pupils that didn't make L4 Sats last year. One of the ideas was to get some Kindle type eBooks that might make them more enthusiastic about reading. I know there were several issues with Kindle in the number of concurrent machines that could access the same book and also downloading via a proxy server. Has anyone else done something similar and can offer advice please?

It's a while since I used one but from memory if you have the MS one installed it converts docx etc. automatically when you try top open it from 2003.

Our Epson EMP830 is over 7 years old, is getting dim and the controller has packed up. So maybe now is a good time to replace it. I'm looking for something around 3000 lumen, XGA or better and preferably without filters to clean. The Epson is positioned 430cm from a 3m x 3m screen.

I don't see why your way won't work with the jpegs, I'm not sure how much control you would get in the transitions though.

I teach powerboating and when I show students the knots I always say "I bet you that when the other instructors see how you tie a bowline, they will offer to show you an easier way". I'd forgotten that modern TVs allow you to run slideshows, our displays tend to be a mix of text and images with a degree of animation (all in the best possible taste), so Powerpoint fits the bill nicely.

But I believe he wants to play them as a video file on a TV. Does irfan viewer do this.

Use something like FastStone resizer to batch resize as appropriate to a new folder. Then in Powerpoint 2010 Insert - Photoalbum and select the folder, which will put each pic. on a separate page. You can then export the presentation as a video file to play on the TV.
