  1. I'm trying to restore the contacts and emails from Outlook 2007 on a machine that died. I have the drive running on a different computer but I had to reinstall Office 2007 to get it to run. Is there a way to get it to find and use the old data?
  2. It was hard to see from the photos, does the HDC-SD700 have a standard size accessory shoe? Otherwise you will need an adapter to mount the mic.
  3. I've got a Canon XM2 and a HF S100. The XM2 is only SD but a brilliant camera and you can get some good deals on Ebay. All of my stuff goes onto DVD, so SD is not a problem at present. One thing I don't like about the Canon cameras is the mic. needs to provide phantom power. Panasonic doesn't, which can make life a little easier. The Rhode videomic does supply phantom power though.
  4. iBits « iBits Our Senco wants to download the free, no-catches SEN Register but I have reservations!
  5. Blowtorch sounds good. We've got the plumbers in at present There's no hdd activity, so I don't think it's graphics. I'll give an ext. monitor a try though.
  6. Right, I don't get those symptoms, caps and num lock don't work at all. Apart from the fan coming on and the drive light flashing a couple of times, little else happens. The volume control lights work and the audio mute light toggles on and off. I'll try leaving it with the battery removed overnight. I think this overcomes capacitor problems, so if it does work I'll have a butchers and see if I can find any sick looking caps. If no, it's strip down time.
  7. Can you remember where you found the check sheet please? I've done a quick search and couldn't see anything obvious.
  8. This is the same model. It's not the RAM so probably the mobo. I wonder if the Bursar will let me have a new one?
  9. I'll try a different ram module tomorrow. If that fails I will give it a try.
  10. The fans start up, and the hdd light flashes a couple of times then stops. The screen remains blank. The symptoms are the same if I take the RAM out, so hopefully that's the problem. I tried cleaning the contacts and still no good. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to try another memory module.
  11. That's what I've recommended to the Bursar. Thanks again
  12. He made is getaway on a Norton 650.
  13. I remember that from my caravanning days. In view of the replies, especially the one regarding videos, I'll recommend we get a licence. Thanks everyone.
  14. Our group TV licence is up for renewal but we don't have any TVs. Likewise, we don't stream live iPlayer at this time. Is there any situation where we would need the TV licence if we use iPlayer?
  15. What would be the point of cheating?
  16. Looking at this https://whispercast.amazon.com/?ref=kas_wc_2 it would seem that more than 5 users can share the same document. It can also set up proxies and control internet access. I've emailed Amazon for clarification on the multi-user bit.
  17. I'd never heard of prosopognosia but I googled it and did this test Visual and Face Recognition Tests on the Internet I got 52% of the people I had heard of, which indicates a problem. Mind you, I seldom watch US movies and some of the images were not good. I didn't get Tony Blair, and still couldn't see it once I knew who it was!
  18. But they all recognise me! If I go into town at the weekend, I try and make it first thing whilst they are still tucked up in bed. I had to pop down for something this afternoon and there was a hoard of them messing about in the precinct and getting filthy looks from the shoppers. They see me and all call out "HELLO MR B". Said shoppers then stare at me as if I'm responsible for the little tow-rags!
  19. I'm useless. I can be with a class one lesson, an hour later, I have one of them in the medical room and I cannot remember thir name. They all look the same to me!
  20. I'm tending to use expressions eg. One&Two=3 Edit: Doh! I'm going to have to change all my passwords now.
  21. The thing that encouraged me from the article was the consideration about the relative benefits of a digital screen v. written text. I'm not sure that is given any thought in a lot of schools. They simply get the technology to keep up with the Joneses.

  23. There's a US article http://mashable.com/2012/10/05/tablets-vs-textbooks/ which has a couple of interesting points.
  24. I did think of that but it would need a SIM reader and the file system is probably different.
  25. The marginal polls yesterday showed Obama 50% Romney 48%. I'm with the other 2%.
