My recent experience with BT has been good too. I was very dubious when they called to review my current package, but they did reduce the price and increase the speed (not cheapest, but within reach of competitors). On a whim I asked them about BT Complete WiFi - I've run Unifi with a Draytek router for years, but one of the Powerline adaptors I used to connect the APs to the router had died. They sent out the current home hub and one disc and miraculously I got coverage throughout my house, although it was fairly weak in places. I was running four Unifi units to achieve the same. The promise was good coverage, so I contacted them via webchat and no questions asked, they sent another two discs next day delivery. With three discs and the hub I have good coverage throughout the house. I don't have a media server, so don't know the actual network speed, but even in the furthest corner the wireless client shortest is within 2% of the wired speed directly connected to the router. I've always struggled with multiple HD video streams, but it all works like the advert says.

That's fine for single user PCs, but on shared devices, every time a user logs in to a machine for the first time it installs all of the unwanted apps which can take a while...

I get the "just because", but I reckon there's a good chance the DAC in your PC will be better than the DAC on the record deck...

If you have the dinner money module it does. In our infant school it was the only record of who needed/was provided a school meal (since all pupils were entitled to a free meal). The class teacher recorded the requirement as part of registration in the morning. Absences auto populate through from attendance and there are reports for the kitchen, class lists for the midday supervisors including all allergies/religious requirements etc. If you've got the module, you can definitely get the reports of who had a meal (but probably not what they ate).

This question is because I don't know why, not because I'm challenging your advice: I would have expected to try any recovery in the backup on the basis that the less I interfered with the original, the higher the chances of someone else succeeding should I fail. When you say backup, do you mean use something like robocopy to just copy exactly what's there or use Windows backup or similar?

I'd be wary of introducing an extra system - it always introduces errors and omissions. How about creating users called Trips, Lettings and the same for the other categories you need and then inviting them to all of the relevant appointments. Eg the person organising the year 8 trip puts it in their calendar and invites the user "Trips". Then anyone who has view access to Trips can open that calendar and print it out if they need to. Once you're using an electronic calendar, I think printing it out is dangerous - you invariably end up with out of date copies flushing around - and once you're talking about a whole school, I can't imagine a system that is both comprehensive and ready to read in a print format.

I'm assuming they work in the same way as Chromebooks. If they do, set it up as a kiosk device in the Google admin centre and then set up whichever app you need to startup when the machine reboots. The fact it's charging will also add to the heat. I presume as you have a Nokia you're running the manufacturer's ROM, but the only time my Android phone had crashing problems was overheating. I was running a custom ROM, which made it run very quickly - but constantly overheating. Once I sorted out the overheating, it became stable again.

That second one should have Windows 10 branding, no?

I might be doing something wrong, but since the most recent changes to home use products, Office has been complaining about licensing unless the academic license holder is signed into O365. E.G. personal laptop I use is fine when I'm signed in and status shows as activated, but when another family member signs in with their account, they see a "there seems to be a problem with your account. Click here to fix" message. If I then sign in, it stops complaining, but they can then see my files, so it's not a workable solution. Looks to me as though the only option if you want multiple users is to buy O365 family with the HUP discount (30% I think). There are plenty of options for buying Office 2019 Pro Plus on the internet, but given that MS are selling it for £419.99, the other choices look "to good to be true". Edit: I'd assumed that if it was installed using a valid account, it would activate for all users (in my experience that's what used to happen). However that no longer works for me.

And the film "Plastic China" Of course Bob the builder was right: reduce, reuse, recycle and I've religiously washed out all of the plastics and sorted them as requested by our local authority for years; just genuinely wonder whether it's actually making the problem worse (burning fossil fuels to ship it round the world so that someone else can either bury or burn most of it feels worse). The article suggests that progress is being made and Loop ( https://www.cbsnews.com/news/terracycle-loop-zero-waste-products-procter-gamble-nestle-household-brands-expanding/# ) sounds encouraging.

So, having taken the step of minimising single use plastics, do we reckon it's better to keep what I do end up with out of my recycling bin and send straight to landfill? And what do we reckon about line caught fish, or farmed fish like salmon, trout or even most sea bass nowadays?

I find that really difficult to do at around a 25% premium [emoji17]. Good news; Tesco's are going to introduce multi-buy prices to match/replace the plastic wrapped multi-packs. I use either string bags or reusable clear plastic bags and shove them in there - after weighing and sticking printed labels on a sheet of paper to scan. Waitrose plastic veg bags are now compostable - still a waste, but better than non-recyclable... Our local supermarkets let you take your own containers for fresh produce - although using local shops rather than supermarkets has different benefits you might value.

Are there any neighbouring flats? Might just be worth checking whether any of them had similar problems and how they cured it. You really don't want to get all the decorating done and find that the damp comes back.
