Our teachers want to create treasure trails/orienteering activities around the school site using iPads. The plan would be to create QR codes which provide either word or picture clues which the pupils use to navigate around the site. Is there an app which can automate this process? I have come across a website: https://www.qr-code-generator.com/ which does what we want, but the facility to create directly from pictures requires sign in to a paid account. We'd rather buy an app so that we don't have to create accounts for all of the teachers who are likely to want to use it.

I'm trying to minimise the amount of data I back up. Using TreeSize to analyse the storage usage, it looks like I have a Staff directory with a size of 23GB which has 365.6 MB allocated. Presumably the difference is what appears in the ChunkStore in the System Volume Information? Is there any way that it could be bigger than that? The total Size shown in TreeSize for the directories I want to back up is 72.9GB, but the ChunkStore is 107GB. Could this relate to VSS? Also WSUS Dedup (excluded from backup) has a size exactly double the allocated space. Does that mean that I have two copies of everything that could be cleaned up? Thanks

Agreed, but they require deliberate acts each time a file is illegitimately acquired, whereas installation of file stream is a one off event and could be done by a user without understanding the impact. Sounds like Google have responded to admins' concerns and fixed it [emoji846] We also provide laptops and I don't see it as a major risk, just thought it was worth mentioning to someone making a decision...

If you can't prevent users installing at home, does that not open you to a risk of data leakage? I should mention that I'm a fan and in terms of day to day use, it works brilliantly - much better integration with Windows than MS' own solution; just asking for interest and it's something to be considered when you're deciding.

Does anyone know when the Group Policy to Configure team site libraries to sync automatically is coming out of preview/available beyond Insiders Ring? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/use-group-policy#AutoMountTeamSites The description on that page says that the GPO creates a registry entry: HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\OneDrive\TenantAutoMount]"LibraryName"="LibraryID" Can you already manually set up those registry entries and deploy using GPO or does it rely on some other component? Linked question: do any of you run a school machine on the Insiders Ring? Or do you wait for features to be properly released?

Stay away from that company. Smart might not be overly worried as it is obsolete, but it hasn't been released as freeware so you still need a license. You'd probably get away with it, but a supplier shouldn't be suggesting it and the person responsible for licensing compliance in a school shouldn't allow it.

When BMW launched the i3 and i8 if you took a lease deal, it included occasional use of an alternative ICE car for when the BEV range wasn't enough. Could work for a lot of people during the transition.

I'm becoming less and less of a fan of Elon Musk, but he undeniably disrupted the EV industry. His models alone are taking massive chunks out of the market sector and I'm pretty sure that the big manufacturers wouldn't be trying nearly as hard to give up the oil habit if he hadn't given them a kick. I won't be replacing my 12 year old car until it dies (I only drive about 5k/year now) and I agree that the huge carbon cost of manufacturing a car cannot be ignored. However, if you drive high mileage, a zero carbon vehicle (which if you choose the right electricity supplier it can be), the savings will outweigh the manufacturing cost within a few years. VW is claiming that their new factory will be run on green/ zero carbon energy, further reducing the environmental impact of manufacture. It's only a step on the way - manufacturing something new will always have a resource cost. TL:DR My next car won't be powered by fossil fuels. The fact that it doesn't make sense for you to change your car now doesn't mean that it's not the better product for someone who is buying a new car to choose.

It's always a potential issue with any projector - another very good reason to go for flat panels. The ultimate short throw projectors (wall mounted) are much better than the traditional type. The only reason I'd consider a projector nowadays is if you need an unusually large image (in excess of 85" as a rough guide). I've never needed that in a normal sized classroom - things might be different in the US. Total cost of ownership is favourable to the flat panels now.

K-1 should be less likely to encounter the problem as it will be further from their eye line. However, it would need to be a very unusual set up for me to look beyond an interactive flat panel display for an infants' classroom. This would be one of the arguments in favour of the touchscreen.

But last time I had to change a policy, they charged £26. Annoying, but when I was involved in call centres, we worked on the basis of each telephone interaction costing £30 (salary + on costs) and that was over 12 years ago. (It was the basis of the business case for spending money on getting it right more of the time and investing in online self service.)
