In the Ocado virtual queue. Had a look at 6.45 this morning "you are 2246 in the queue. Your wait time will be over an hour". Couldn't hang on at the time. Just retried. "You are position 8963 in the queue. Your wait time will be over two hours." I'm not complaining, as we're not remotely priority customers. Main reason for persevering is that I have a regular delivery booked, but it doesn't have much on it. I want to either cancel it or add more so that they don't waste their time delivering a couple of bags of non urgent stuff.

I worked at home for years. The flexibility was great and I found it very productive. However, I was traveling 2 or three days per week, until the financial crisis in 2008 when all business travel was pulled. I got very lonely within 6 months. Most of us are pretty social creatures. I hope that lots more remote working carries on - it solves lots of problems (reduced intensity rush hours, reduced fuel use, reduced personal costs), but it's not a panacea. Hope you and your family stay well.

Spoke to a university lecturer this evening and he said their students are being sent home and being told that next term's teaching will be online/remote. They're working on what to do about year end exams, but the urgent thing is student welfare - especially the foreign students who can't get home.

In context that: 1) I don't claim to know what the impact of specific mitigation measures will be 2) I think schools should have been closed last week 3) I have close relatives due to sit exams next term Surely the exam years are the ones which least need to be in school. They should have covered all of the course content by now - year 10 and 12 kids would miss a big chunk out of the middle of their course, so have more to lose. Years 11 and 13 can be set revision tasks and then ask questions of teachers asynchronously when they get stuck. WRT exams, I think we should stop pretending they're going to go ahead and put the effort into working out what to do instead. They are also of an age where they shouldn't need supervising at home. If we're keeping schools open with the aim of minimising impact on the rest of the working population, focus on keeping the youngest kids in school.

Avid software is offering Sibelius licenses for students to continue working at home during coronavirus. I think your institution has to have a license and then you can get a code for students to use.

You're in a really tough position and I wish you all well. My honest opinion? In your situation I would not go to work tomorrow (both you and your wife). It might be an over reaction, but what do you have to lose by being over cautious? As a workforce, we need to do what we can to support the rest of society. Even if you ignore the fact that if you're vulnerable, three of you being seriously ill would not help anyone and it's entirely reasonable in your situation to put yourself and your family first. Our government has taken an outlier position, which may or may not turn out to be right, but if you read between the lines, the message from them is that in a very short time from now, they will ask vulnerable groups to "socially distance" themselves. My guess is that if you start tomorrow, you'll only be a few days ahead of the government instruction anyway. Also, listen to them explaining that social distancing doesn't mean exactly the same as self isolating. It doesn't necessarily mean locking yourself in a room in your house for the next four months. But limiting who you see and where you go is significantly different from exposing yourself to close contact with thousands of people in a school. Just my thoughts....

Looking for advice on whether there is a recommended software package and method for working on music files created in Logic Pro for students who don't have a Mac at home. Ideally hoping for information on what type of export is best (AAF, audio or midi) and which software would be easiest to use for a student used to using Logic Pro. Thanks

I'd buy another OnePlus as my OnePlus 2 is still going strong, but can't justify the >£500 pricetag. The ~£275 I paid in August 2015 was twice what I'd ever spent before, but at 4 years 7 months feels like acceptable value. Only thing I miss is NFC, but have it in my head to prove that a phone can last 6 years....

Looking for a phone for my OH (bored of getting shouted at when current phone loses GPS while being used for sat nav). Xiaomi seem to be the current bargain: Looking at the Redmi Note 8T or the Mi 9 Lite (Qualcomm 710, Samsung amoled screen, Sony 48Mp camera for £209) Just wondering whether anyone would recommend or otherwise.

Schoolcomms has the facility to send text messages to staff contact details. Imports from SIMS daily, so requires staff to have provided their personal mobile phone details and given permission to be contacted for that purpose. Any of the approved users can do it from their mobile phone (assuming it's the school's internet that's down, not the whole of the internet!).
