Ok ta, I couldn't add them to DEP as they weren't bought from apple so I did during the configuration stage... they are showing up. So after 30 days the option to remove the device management should vanish, I suppose if your given them to kids you need to buy them from Apple of not give them out for 30 days.

Hi, I might be missing something but does JAMF and the latest IOS not allow you to stop the removal of the MDM profile for 30 days? If I remember the old IOS had a restrictions section so you could pin protect the setting to remove a profile. Got quite giddy as I actuaully managed to get a IOS supervised with the latest IOS... then realised if I give staff the pin they can just uninstall it.

I was hoping new iPads would allow me to add to DEP by now. We have got a MacBook that gets used once a year to do the Apple Configurator and then gets put back in its drawer.

My install is messed up. RSAT won't install and I've tried everything..even a source. I can't install the latest patch 2019-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4524570) -Error 0x80073701 and when I run SFC scan it finds an error but wont fix it. Shame really

I've just installed 1909 on my office machine after years of using LTSC. Can't install ADUC, windows update fail with a CU but its got a lovely camera app so every cloud.

We are a smallish school so all storage is internal in the server (around 10tb). I was running a backup job of our file server which is around 1tb which failed after 2 days.. really slow.

Morning, I'm trialling VEEAM after finding my DPM was getting unreliable and annoying. The terminology is different obviously and its taking a bit of working out as its alot different from DPM. I used to have 14 days restore then a monthly saved for 6 months on tapes (firestreamer). I'd be interested to know how others have set theirs up. I've connected it to a blob Azure storage centre too but not sure what I am going to store in there... my DPM database backup used to be stored in Azure. Does anyone save Exchange365 emails in VEEAM? Any guidance/tips would be a great help.

Just an update, I went for the DS-7732NI-I4 / 16P(B) which I am now trying to configure but hitting a few snags. The POE ports at the back, can these be used for just connecting a switch to a different building which has cameras on it... for example on a separate switch network. I have plugged in a camera to the POE and set the IP and it works, I add a switch directly to it and it still works. I try one in a different site linked by a similar switch and it doesn't connect. Not sure why it doesn't work. Quite pleased as I spent half the morning getting a cheapo Samsung analog to digital 4 port convertor to work... but it doesn't work in the POE ports. I've read some posts about change the POE ports away from auto to manual but my box doesn't have that.

Hi, We've been running Dragon for a while now using a site license, its only on 13 so we are a few versions back. Just got a quote through as they don't do site license anymore and its almost £400 per license for the pro version. I've looked at a few alternatives, Dictate seemed OK, the built in W10 didn't like my voice at all and Read and Write seems to just use the M$ voice recognition. Has anyone used anything else that might be viable.

Thanks for all the replies. I suppose the frustrating thing is when i am in on my own in the holidays. I can use just one machine sitting right next to the AP and its still pants. I'll do a bit of tweaking in the holidays and input some of the suggestions offered.

I've set the APs to HT40 with the power lowered to medium (as suggested on a different forum), I couldn't find a setting on the client to set this... other than to force it to use 5Ghz. The uplinks plugged into the same switch as a desktop client which is getting 50+ mbps. I've run lanspeedtest too which hangs for ages on the laptop but is instant on the desktop. The room I was testing last night is a normal old brick building with the AP less than 20 metres away with one wall in between, I've run the WIFI analyser and its hitting good all the time.

Evening all, I've worked at my current school for a while and have never got a decent WIFI speed in school for some reason. Bit confused about why, I've read lots about channels and overlaps but cant figure it out. We used to run a Ruckus system but I splashed out on new Unifi Pro gear, I've run the analysis tool so all the channels are set right but its not improved. For example, our science block rarely always get top signal as I ran the Unifi signal tester and it was all green as good but the download speeds rarely hit more than 600kb. I'm running PDQ deploy now with no one on the WIFI and its doing the same in a different block. When I look at UNIFI stats its showing as 55dBm and speed of 144Mbps. I actually bought new laptops too for science with AC chips in but the speed is still awful, its not the network as a desktop on the same switch is flying. The switch isn't showing any errors either. Morning, I think I can answer my own question but. When we have a guest visitor the reception take a copy of the ID to prove their ID. There's no reason to take a copy is there as the person who saw the ID can just sign to say that the person on the ID is the person visiting?

Hi, I've bought a couple of android TV's to run XIBO on which work great for basic displays but I'm having trouble getting them to work with a HTTPS website. I'm getting Couldn't establish a secure connection to the server as it always opens in the browser. Even when I install FF or Safari (which the website opens fine in) I've disabled the browser app but it still opens in it.. I cant root them either. Anyone done something similar?

Hi, I've got some policies to end out which staff needs to confirm they have read etc.. like most years but fancied automating it. I read somewhere that you can do workflow with SharePoint but I found a company that does a management bolt on to SharePoint which seemed to look really good but when I got the prices its a big no no. It did look good as it badgered the staff to say they had read and understood the policy. Has anyone come across something similar or something they use. I couldn't find one for Google which I was surprised about.

We did, think it was £2k a year more and with all the BI to learn we shelved it. Sims with bolt-ons is better in my very humble opinion.

I moved to Sophos, haven't made my mind up if its better yet.

Evening All I'm trying to simplify my new UNFI Wi-fi, as we are boarding school I would like to use the Guest Portal. I've spent weeks trying to get the UNIFI to auto accounting with my Sophos FW but I cant get it to work and Sophos says it doesn't work. Anyway, I've narrowed it down to 4 SSIDs, Main network VLAN SSID for Chromebooks and iPads VLAN SSID for BYOD I wanted to use the guest portal on the BYOD SSID, I've set it up to auth to Radius so rhe user hits the portal and can logon using their credentials, then it hits the Sophos portal page to log on again....this is fine (like I say I would prefer it to auto logo to Sophos) What I'd like it to use the portal page for the voucher based logon for guest access, but I obviously don't want to have them logon again. Anyone got something setup similar, my previious SW/Ruckus kit managed to work perfectly together.

Hi, I've just replaced my Ruckus wireless gear with shiny shiny Unifi Pro stuff. Lovely new GUI and the administration is a breeze but I haven't done any tweaking yet so wondered if anyone's got any tips. I've added extra APs but its not used in anger just yet apart from a few guests we have on site who are reporting really bad experience with it which wasn't there with Ruckus... namely disconnects and not reconnecting properly...then all of a sudden it connects on its own... and the simple WPA2 password needs inputted too often. I only had time to do a walk test and the signal is brill all over the areas I want but even in these areas its been reported its not reliable. These are on my dashboard too Excessive packet drops for Access Point and long association time for Access Point Any pointers or shiortcuts would be great.. I'll probably run a RF test tomorrow

I used Smoothwall for intervlanning which I haven't played with in Sophos. I suppose I have a choice of 802.1x or the guest portal.
