I'm not after colours, I just want to be able to turn the main light in the room on and off, and hopefully dim it too.

OK, so my wife got me an Echo for Christmas, and I'm very pleased with it. Even to just use as a Bluetooth speaker, the sound is excellent! The world of what connects to it is very confusing though. I keep finding things which say they work with it, but then hub's get mentioned. Are there devices which just work, or does everything need to go through a hub of some sort? Basically, I want to be able to operate my lounge light using Alexa. What's the cheapest way to do it? Thank you Stuart

Hadn't done the VMQ disabling. All my Broadcom cards were disabled by default. I've now done the others and will try again. The 'how many snapshots' is set to 4, as it was before. Stuart

It says the bottle neck is the network at around 40mb, however historically it was also the network causing the bottle neck but at 90mb+! All drivers are manufacturers drivers rather than Microsoft's version, and all report they are fine. I've used ReFS for the hosts, but I also tried it on NTFS out of curiosity. The backup server has 2 NICs teamed (says it's connected at 2Gbps), and each server I'm backing up has 4 or more NICs, all teamed together.

I back up all my Hyper-V machines using Veeam. The hosts were running 2012 R2. I recently wiped them and installed 2016 (and did the same with the backup server), then found that Veeam 8 didn't work with 2016. I upgraded Veeam to 9.5 but now all my backups take approximately twice as long. I raised it with Veeam who basically said it's nothing to do with Veeam, it must be my servers. All the correct and latest drivers and updates are installed. Any thoughts anyone? Thank you Stuart

Hi All, No idea which forum to put this in, so feel free to move it. One of my technicians has been reading the terms and conditions on an app which a primary school near us use. It says; What do any of you do about getting parents' permission? Do you get it, or do you believe this to be covered by the "I give my child permission to go on the Internet" clause? Do you notify the parents' as to which apps their child may be using? All thoughts appreciated. Thank you Stuart

Hi all, At home I have an i5 (2nd gen) with 12GB of RAM and a Geforce 8800GT in it. My son plays minecraft, robocraft and scrap mechanic, my daughter plays the Sims 4, and that's about all it gets used for. The video card has just died. I have a very tight budget and am not sure what to replace it with. I'm quite happy with second hand from ebay. Might I get something for £30 - £40? If so, what? Another 8800GT? Thank you Stuart

This is why I may be staggering the upgrade, I don't have 4.6 everywhere at the moment. The ones which don't have 4.6 yet will remain on v5 and I want to make sure they'll talk to the v6 server. Stuart

Hi all, I've got Impero 5.0.03 throughout. I'm going to upgrade to the latest version. Has anyone had differing versions running and had any issues? Obviously I'm going to upgrade everything ASAP, but I want to know if it has to all be done at once or whether I can stagger it. Impero are being vague on it. Thank you Stuart

Hi all, I've been interested in the idea of the Echo for a while but want to play with one properly before dishing out £70ish. My Dad now has one and I was quite impressed with it. Has anyone got experience of it and the Google offering and can give any opinions? I was wondering about getting the Google one as presumably this will tie in with my android phone better, but will my, my wife's, my daughter's, and my son's mobile phones all start listening if I say "OK Google" to it? @Net-Ctrl had a rack mounted fire suppresion system at last year's BETT show, which some insurers recognise and reduce their premium accordingly. You just put it in the bottom of your rack and it goes off in the rack if necessary.

We had lag on one of our Genee boards. Replaced the USB lead with a decent, shorter one and the problem went away.

I've just tried to delete the checkpoint I manually created and it started filling the host's disk up. It's now only got just under 4GB left so I've cancelled the merge. There is only the email server being hosted on here. It is 677GB. The checkpoint I created is now 163GB and the spurious checkpoint created by Veeam which I can do nothing with is 166GB. If I tell it to merge, does it manage the disk space sensibly or is it just going to fill the host and then bring down the email server? Stuart
