im using bootcamp, initial setup is fine. but after installing the image on a machine and booting to windows the screen goes black and just sits there with the blinking cursor before you'd expect the windows loading screen to pop up. like it cant find what to boot from. Thinking about it now i was using a Fat32 windows partition on the initial install, wonder if thats the problem. was a few months ago i last tried so cant remember exactly.

Good job, I've been struggling to image windows successfully. machines have been failing to boot,with a Blinking Cursor, any ideas? Its our half term next week, 29 days of holiday to take so dont know when im going to get another attempt at this kind of stuff! especially as me and the network manager have 49 days between us, and 1 of us have to be here!

anyone who has even slightly looked at the Air would realise its ment to be a companion to your 3.2Ghz 8 core, 16GB RAM, 2TB HD, Dual 30inch screen mac pro. on a more serious note, apple missed the chance to make a great sub-notebook but missed the mark by a long way on this imo.

ofc Microsoft are going to say not to install it on a DC...... extra software costs, its how they rape you for even more money!!! Ofc if you want the best system every Major Service should have its own Host OS to itself. but ofc this is not always practical for budget constraints.

We also use host spamlists such as spamhaus,spamcop. Don't forget those!

Is there A chance you are in a low signal area? Sometimes if the signal is to low the eter password field pops up.

is AD also setup on the mac server? if not then you'll need to be using Workgroup manager on a client that has access to both AD + OD to setup the Managed Groups

is there any groups with AD Groups or Users in them? this si what you need to manage in your setup as you cant actually manage AD Users on a per user basis something like the 1st image and then you can see how i setup the dock options in the 2nd image. Reason we dont use the tick box for Add Group Folder is that we found it used to hang the clients at login so manually added them. Applications folder is actually a folder with a bunch of Aliases in to provide a clean apps folder.

crossover is basically WINE Quick google search cuz im lazy to type it out. (Wine Is Not an Emulator) Software that runs Windows applications under Linux and other versions of Unix running on an x86 PC. Wine runs Windows executables as they are. It executes them by trapping the calls from the application to the Windows interface (the Windows API), converting the arguments in the call where necessary and directing them to X Window routines. Paul how are your macs setup ie Directory Services? do they pull workgroup prefs down from a mac server? if so, you can use workgroup manager to add an alias to the dock. (happy to tell u how if needed)

in our design the ground floor is 5m high floor to ceiling.... yet we cant put any mezzanine levels in the admin area else we go over the m2 allowed. Oh and the architects have the heads office the other side of a wall that has a music practice room the other side....... WTF are they thinking when designing these buildings i do not know....

you've seen multiple designs? during consultation with staff they asked if we wanted resource areas in subject areas instead of just in 1 central area..... staff said Yes good idea if they could have it in addition to a Learning Resource Centre (aka Library) but guess what the Head + Architects interrupted that as. "staff dont want a central LRC" So now we are also fighting "BB98" (which was done before work force reform!! great idea to follow that then!!!) work space outside of classrooms is seriously lacking for support staff. oh the joy!

As far as i can tell there is no macromedia folders in the ~/Library/cache folder so this wouldn't help by redirecting it. Although there is a Macromedia folder in ~/Library/Application Support/ which on my admin system is 90meg over time. but Each app on a fresh start up only copies 500k or so so shouldn't be a problem. Does the app load quickly on a local admin account? does it happen any where else or is it just these macs? try cleaning out ~/Library/Preferences/ for any macromedia prefs and deleting the macromedia folder from ~/Library/Application Support/ in every home folder. Something sounds very fishy even on our bondi iMacs that we had last year, MX would start up within 30 seconds.

*cough* iPhone *cough* much better deal with the new tariffs played around with a N95 the other day and hated every second of it. I think you also have to look at a phone and work out what you use it for. if you need a phone/camera and you tend to take alot of pictures on nights out for example perhaps you want a not so good phone that has a better camea with flash etc. work out what you need it for. Then do some research!

i would tell you who my connection is with but if your using P2P you can forget that idea (dont want you messing my ping up!!!) but i do pay £35 for a 2meg ADSL line, its worth every penny!

when we moved from our old ISDN net connection years ago we had LOTS of problems when we changed the IP address to our server, in the end we rebuilt it. might be worth using the changeip command line tool to see if that helps. i am surprised it let you run a OD Master on DHCP, i am sure it never used to let you. can you post some startup logs from the server?

keychains are stored in ~/Library/Keychains delete the folder logout log back in again if its a keychain issue should sort it

perhaps someone has alot of VHS tapes they want to archive they dont last forever and a digital version could be more flexible, used at the same time in multiple locations etc etc. im also guessing that "Avi" was used as a generic term for digital video.

i dont know why need to ask us....... cant they use their own judgement and try out their nearest laptop/pc/internet device and see if it works! hey thats all we are going to do!
