im guessing that AP's that can run at both 2.4 and 5ghz(at the same time) require double the amount of antennae will also need more power too.

you also now have the problem of this password being passed around and now anyone can bypass you to join your network (not good!!)

come on people..... this is windows XP! use the new board as an excuse to do a complete reinstall! pain in the ass i know but think of all that lightening fast speed you get for the 1st month or so

You also have the expensive option of centrify or admitmac if you wish to integrate into AD. http://www.centrify.com/ and admitmac: http://www.thursby.com/ Admitmac is probably the more tried and tested method of those 2 options, not so sure how good the centrfy solutions are. We use the OSXServer method that localzuk mentions.

Sorry Ric i do believe i am looking for a solution to a problem that is there, at the moment Staff often send emails to heads of departments/year with students names in the title, they are human, so sometimes under pressure, they make mistakes if this person was using Thunderbird the email would just bounce, but using OWA and Outlook connected via exchange the student would receive the email. for the head this is a problem. An IT problem for him is a problem for me that needs a solution. We have a spread out site so staff use email a lot for discussing problem students. Unbelievably this was the 1st time this had happened and obviously he wants the risk of it happening again to be almost ZERO (apart from actually entering the students username in the to, cc, bcc fields) I agree but we all rant on here and perhaps is a bit off topic for this thread

seems sending an email to "John Doe" via OWA and OUTLOOK will send an email to 00johndoe if the firstname is set to John and Surname is Doe. does not appear to work via any other mail clients. Removing the users Firstname and Surname entry in Active Directory seems to stop this from happening. any other work arounds would be greatly recieved!

that obviously wont be needed, the plan is all the teachers will get trained to use all the new systems in place so they wont need it people like us will they................. and then you guessed it, forget instantly as they walk into the classroom on their 1st day!!!

Just had a case of an email from a member of staff arriving at the intended staff members inbox AND the students inbox she was talking(ranting) about. This email was not intended to go to the student!! our staff have usernames jdoe and students 04johndoe. all users have 1st name and Surname fields populated in AD. Now i think this is a case of accidental use of the title going into the Bcc or something. no title on the email. but does exchange try and be helpful? so say if she had accidently put "John Doe" in the BCC field it will try and find someone to send it to? anyone know how this happened and if it is a feature how do you turn it off!! she was using OWA. Anyone any ideas on this 1?

there was a video on youtube not long ago showing a PC with such a device running XP. and here it is, it was at CES I assume this is the same as apples current trackpad that can detect 2 finger gestures, dont know if they can detect 3 like the new Air trackpad.

i hate turning things off if they've been running 24/7 for alooooong time, never know if they are going to turn back on in the a working condition

your users authenticate directly to the AD not the osxserver(OD). You will loose the ability to manage prefs on a per user basis though. you need to setup your clients machines to point to both AD and OD.(edit: sorry just realised you already have this setup if you have problems change the order in DirectoryAcess) In OD create a new Group for each group you want managed, i just add a 'M' to the corresponding AD Group i want to manage so things don't get confusing. then within Workgroup manager just drag the AD Group into the new OD Group. hope that helps a bit. sorry on the lack of info just realised i need to be some where

Our 10.4 od server is happily connected to our AD. Not having played with 10.5 Server yet cant help you there, but sounds like something is broke. How did you connect to AD?

to me it sounds like he's copying from a mac server to a share on a windows box

never had a hardware failure on a xserve or xraid, oldest is now 4 years old before that we used power mac's and only ever had 1 problem and that was the hard drive controller eating hard drives on a daily basis!

if its not sensitive enough to appear here, then there is nothing stopping them from finding the info needed from other places on the net. also even if they are not registered they can still read stuff so what is the problem? as long as topics remain on topic surely any input to a topic is useful no matter how old they are.
