Is it a tagged/trunk port on the new router or jus untagged/access port?

Do you use SCCM, if so the tool is already there. Windows used to do a remote assistance thing but that seems to of gone???

Seems every MS update/improvement these days jus puts one extra click in to get where you need to be. It is like a shop where you have to walk around isles jus to get to the checkout laced with sugar goodies that try to entice you into spending more money.

With new WiFi tech I don't think you can jus put one in to replace another necessarily. I'd advise a wifi audit if you can get one.

Give the client PC a static IP and see if it can ping it's gateway if it cannot when it should be able to then I'd start looking further. I'm assuming DHCP server is running on the new router?? Could you potentially do this with one client connected to the router and the router jus sitting next to the client i.e. not connected up to the main network with a spare switch if necessary??

Flexibility would be an option. Flexibility to be in charge of your own firewall, flexibility on Internal IP ranges, etc. 🙂

Honestly not worth it. An electrician will/should know if it needs a 32amp supply. Wire it into a 13amp socket and you are asking for trouble.

Modern cases can help, specifically where there is space behind the mobo and ample cable routes from the PSU. I've not built many TBH but agree with many that most of the main mfrs Dell, HP and Lenovo desktops use propriety connections for PSU which is a PITA so if you are thinking of getting one bear in mind you may need to source a adapter to convert a standard ATX PSU to fit the board, certainly if you are upgrading the GPU with anything decent.

Not sure how that helps as the client surely has to access the portal/VPN first so the MFA can kick in???? Unless you hide it behind a proxy of some sort which deals with the initial request, i.e. Cloudflare.

Jus a fan of Dell. Put in the service tag and get a whole load of info and the correct drivers, even how the server was customized during order, even handy when buying 2nd hand servers to see what the server had and what has been removed or changed. HP another story.

Our firewall blocks DoS automatically on specific parameters but we can exclude IPs if we want i.e. for known vulnerability scanning.

Any DoS availability on the Sophos i.e. blocking IP addresses during sustained attacks, Sophos updated to recommended? I frequently see random usernames on our FW for VPN including using admin, lol.

If you are not using IPv6 don't worry about it. I can only assume that the DHCP server knows which range of IPs to give a client is based on the gateway IP address 🙂

Clients send a broadcast, vlans are local area networks split into broadcast domains. From our DHCP server (DDI/IPAM appliance) I see the dhcp discover comes from the gateway IP of the subnet the client is on, we use reservations for 99% of our network and if their is no reservation the client device does not get an IP and this is reported in the logs. If your DHCP server is routed on the core switch this is very straight forward only requiring a helper or relay address on the core switch. If you intend to put a NIC on your DHCP server for each subnet I'd be very careful. You literally have a connection from every client to the DHCP server. Why do you want to get rid of Inter-vlan routing ?

The apps really sell Synology. I've was running them for at least 6 years, sometimes multiple where one is an on-site backup with the main Synology holding original important data backing up to a cloud service. Apart from the issue with the RAM I have been very pleased with them. As I no longer need the APPs I moved to TrueNAS and moved services to either docker or VMs.

My thoughts. The main issue with Synology is the cost of the RAM and HDDs if you want to go fully Synology brand. Such a mark up on the RAM and HDDs/SSDs. At the end of the day the GUI and the Apps make the Synology appetizing but they fall behind on CPU/RAM spec quite often considering the price point. Then if you want to run VMs you have a max of 4 networks without paying for a license and RAM matters mostly more than CPU. I have used 3rd party memory though mostly successful apart from one bad experience when the RAID got corrupted due to faulty RAM. RAID is not a backup and thankfully nothing was lost because I had a backup 🙂 There is a lot of emerging devices and I feel Synology need to up game 🙂 Especially as some of them can run TrueNAS on the box quite easily.

Could that OOBE stage be removed?

With Virgin you can put it into modem mode mostly and use your own. With BT FTTP you jus connect your own router direct to the ONT, then get the username and password and setup PPPoE client on your own router. I would not touch Sky at all as they lockdown too much, fine if you want simple setup thou.

I'd say defo positives of this.

Depending on what apps you have installed (and have them setup) could greatly increase profile size. General use i.e. office/admin use you won't generally have an issue.

I would assume if they are saying includes calls would be SIP channel included but I'd check how many simultaneous calls etc.

No problem at all. You've done most of the hard work so adding vlans should be a relatively easy thing to do from now on. As long as the Smoothwall knows where to forward the traffic to 🙂 . I've created 100+ in my current employment and normally I don't forget anything 🙄

Some mini PCs do have a place for a 2.5" but the holder and special cable might be missing. Thinking of the Lenovo M series.

So new PC only has a M.2 slot? No SATA connector. TBH I'd use a M.2 and jus rebuild windows from scratch if you cannot do a copy.
