I know this works in Synology with SHR Synology Hybrid Raid but not sure what NAS you are using and the type of RAID you have setup. Personally had too many issues with WD Red Drives jus my personal preference due to own experience now is Seagate Ironwolf for NAS and that is what I am replacing drives with. Of course RAID is no backup so make sure to have copies of important or treasured info i.e. photos etc. backed up.

A lot of old phones are 10/100Mb but I would not worry, it should still be good enough for general use. We have 750 switches and a good 25% are only 10/100Mb end ports but 1Gb uplink ports. Got some Cisco in wall APs at home and using one of the additional ports (which can supply PoE) to run/power an old Cisco IP phone.

Another plus for PiHole. I have 2 setup at home on different hardware for redundancy. Some of my devices like IoT and Smart Phones talk directly to the PiHoles whilst other devices such as servers talk to my other DNS Servers which use PiHole as an upstream DNS server. I defo see the difference in lack of adverts when I do not use PiHole. But yes YouTube is a bit different, PiHole won't block all adverts but it does block some, at the moment.

I used to exclude folders from redirection in appdata. iTunes was a culprit as it use to take up storage on our servers from people that had the app installed and backed up their phones. It was a few years backup. Maybe you can exclude Teams from redirecting?

Few power issues in surrey area

Bit windy here in Watford. Remember the winds in 1987, I remember getting to work and been turned around to go back home. The roof had come off our 2nd floor and crashed through the 6 foot glass pane roof of the extended floor below. The day before managing director was running the length of the building whilst the window panes were flexing in the winds. Thoughts with everyone and hope doing OK.

Running has been hampered by starting work too early for some changes (either that or I am getting lazy, or blame it on the dark/cold). Going out for run only twice a week at the moment. One 5-8 mile and one 10-13 mile. Really felt the half marathon in the leg muscles after last Sunday even though doing that distance and some was a real regular whilst Marathon training last year. Was planning to do marathon in May but no where near ready at the moment.

In April 2020 when I had it, it was really bad back ache, slight loss of taste and slight nausea but not too bad. The back ache was there no matter what I did, laying down, standing up, sitting down. Moved from one area of my back to another after a few days. Hope he feels better soon

Wouldn't be comfortable having a plain text password n a script, I know this is jus a local account but still it could be abused. You can create and encryted password file that is specific to the server you run the script on, i.e. if you move the script to a different server you jus need to re-generate the file again via a simple powershell script, As always create/use an account that has jus enough access i.e. not a domain admin account.

Do you have seperate vlan for management of the APs, does the switch port configuration between a new AP and existing AP match? My experience with Ruckus is about 11 years ago. But I'd certainly check port switch configuration if you cannot even see the AP.

If you can get to iLO you won't be able to set any IP address but the iLO. Is the iLO setup as a dedicated port or is it shared with one of the NIC used for the operating system. Normally servers (physical not virtual) will have untagged traffic unless the NIC driver supports vlans i.e. some Intel X520-DA2 etc. I'm assuming the port is set correctly on the switch. If using a lagg (link aggregation protocol) on the switch ports the lagg is normally untagged or tagged as required but your network team will know that :-) .

I've seen issues before where that if lACP was not setup fully the switch would block ports to prevent a loop, to get around this disabled one of the ports in the LACP group on the network switch in the removing the loop till both sides were configured.

Not sure I understand. vlans done right can improve security, improve reliability/stability and reduce the broadcast domain but devices in different vlans can only communicate to each other via a router so I'm not sure how you can have the same scope/subnet on different vlans anyway, the router/firewall/l3 switch will normally complain of overlapping addresses. Layer 3 switches by default normally allow cross vlan traffic but firewalls will normally be the opposite and only allow what you want and deny by default between zones/interfaces. ACLs can be used on a layer 3 switch or as you say use a firewall. But yes I have different scopes per vlan. It is real easy.

If you use putty you can set the log output to a file. If you cannot find the MAC address there is going to be an issue that is for sure. It could be device has gone to sleep, not plugged in or even an issue with the individual switch (i.e. I've had issues with certain firmware on older switches after enabling DHCP snooping)

We use a switch management tool to but I rarely use it, mostly use the cli We trace the MAC address from the core switch all the way through mostly. 750 switches it can be laborious but if we get an idea of the location we can normally find in a few steps. From a core switch running the ProVision software (similar to the old ProCurve). The show mac-address can also be run on an individual switch too. You can execute sh mac-address as @psydii mentioned or sh mac-a most of the time for short. On a core switch that the device has it's gateway on, in Provision you can also do things like a sh arp search to see an IP from a MAC or MAC address from an IP which can also be handy. sh arp | include MACADDRESS sh arp | include IPADDRESS

Hi All, So I've been running an AD environment at home for 15+ years but I'm reducing my setup at home, running a AD domain jus for myself is getting a admin headache which is not really worth it anymore. I have a Premium business azure subscription that I am using for personal email, teams and few other bits and pieces. I've only one user that I need to migrate completely to Azure AD and not sync any more so I can remove my AD from home. For those of you who have done this how did you proceed. I don't want to lose email etc from my user. I never had exchange at home. Cheers
