  1. I guess touchscreen has it's uses... Though apart from being a gucci way of doing things, I haven't found any yet...... I find that a keyboard is still required, how else would you boot into BIOS if there's no f2/del option? Creating documents and doing any kind of typing/input still requires a keyboard as the on screen keyboard is slow, and takes up much needed viewing space. And voice recognition isn't reliable enough to be a viable alternative. Gaming, CAD, all things that will still need traditional input methods.... So I, along with many others, don't get it either.

    Wireless Test?

Have you checked the default power settings on the NIC? Most are set to turn off wireless to save power. DT
  3. Think about it, a networked fridge; you could link it in to tesco online, scan out your beers as you take them and have the fridge automatically order them when you're low!!!

  5. Fellow edugeekers... In my spare time I run a local air rifle club. On the 19th August we'll be holding a charity open day where anyone and everyone can come down and give it a whirl. We'll be donating all proceeds to the above cause, and every penny will be split between the listed charities. Anyone localish who fancies a day out, you're more than welcome to come along. There will be food, drink, fun and an opportunity to meet up with a few guys who know first hand what a difference every donation makes. Darren.
  6. Black and white.... Naturally.
  7. Ensure power saving is turned off, as this knocks off the networking too.... I learned this when I changed my trusty, but ailing epson for a HP all in one at home. DT

  9. Power saving options...... Real pain in the backside when you forget them and try to leave your system updating overnight..... DT
  10. Have you tried OpenDNS?
  11. I think VSS would be an expensive option, and imagine that Spanning Tree Protocol may very well do what you need on a more basic level. DT
  12. Congrats ZH!! Daz.
  13. I'll be in touch about the insulation
  14. My first action would be to entirely rule out the possibility of user involvement by locking down their permission. Secondly, unplug the cat5. leave it plugged in and powered on, see if it persists - if it does (which I suspect it will) then it's likely a system or firmware issue. In which case a call to HP is required..... DT
  15. Do you find this happening over the weekend whilst no-one is onsite? DT
  16. Have you ruled out user input as a cause? What driver are you using (pcl5e, pcl6)? DT

  21. Create a new database (rather than attach existing) then run a restore from .bak onto new DB? DT
  22. ^^ That, but to be honest 165Gb a month is pure abuse of facilities, and certainly in contravention of every AUP I've ever seen. DT
  23. Why not lock down the firewall to only essential ports outbound? Bind his IP to MAC address and restrict it in the firewall to allow only port 80/443 outbound. What firewall/filter are you using? DT
  24. I've worked with Tempura in the past...... Tempura Communications | Networks | Videoconferencing | Voice DT
