Hi thanks for the reply, but my apt.conf already has my proxy , its the authentication which i need to enable like http://username:password@proxy:port but that doesnt seem to work either

I can browse the internet by typing the proxy settings into firefox > network, but using the command apt-get update or wget google.co.uk etc gives me this error which is posted below. I have tried adding user:password@proxy:port into apt.conf but still didn't help. I would really like this to work but it wont due to needing my user and password to authenticate with the proxy. I have kept netgear to block certain keywords and websites just to be on the safe side. Wouldn't mind changing the block.html but for some reason i can't telnet into my netgear n150 router even though debug is enabled. Thanks

Hello, i have been issued a tasked by my mother, pretty much i need to block certain websites so my sister can't access them. Pretty much i have the Netgear N-150 router and have been able to block sites via keywords. I was wondering if there is a easier way of doing this rather than using the router to restrict her. Is there a program which is better. Say for example i can check to see if she has been trying to view the blocked sites and create a custom page which says why it's been blocked instead of being plain and saying "Netgear has blocked this". Just a quick update, the problem was bad memory which has now been isolated from my computer and windows 7 x64 is now installed. Only 2GB now so will have to go out and buy another 2GB otherwise 64bit is a bit pointless. Anyways thanks for all your help Lewis

Yes i will create a USB disk and run mem test but i have tried installing with multiple ram sticks to make sure but didn't really make a difference. You say about the dvd drive i think you could be correct as im pretty sure I've had this before when trying to install windows it can't find the drivers for the DVD drive. Hey guys, im new to the Forums. My name is Lewis pretty much the title says it all. My problem is i have created a Windows 7 disk well I've made multiple disks. One is Windows 7 Pro x64 which i got from my Dream-spark subscription. The 2ND is Windows 7 universal which has all editions except enterprise which was made by removing the ei file from the sources folder. The 3rd is windows 7 Pro x32. My problem is with the universal disk is it causes my computer to Blue Screen, the x64 and x32 cause the instillation to freeze once it starts expanding files. I am currently running Windows XP x32 which i got from Dream-spark which installed without a hitch. I use to have Windows 7 installed but removed due to being fussy. Now i would like to install it again but can't seem to get close ha-ha. My specs are below. AMD X2 4200 4GB RAM 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4300 500GB Western Digital HDD Windows XP SP3 Sorry can't remember the motherboard serial but it's made my Micro-star. Thanks alot Lewis
