A great consumer device for the home user, but in schools I wouldn't have them, but its not my choice and when it goes pear shaped I say I told you so.
-
Just walked into the school and have been presented with 100 of these with no plan on how they will fit into our setup of Windows and Chromebooks Seem to be jumping from the pan into the fire quite literally. So pleased I came across this thread any setup advice would be appreciated.

Hi All, Hoping some maybe be able to give a couple of pointers. My partner does payroll for a company that uses the following cloud service: https:\\go.accessacloud.com The problem is that when she is on site at work the page loads but 1 section of the live data does not load which is the important data she needs. At home it works fine for her but as she is required onsite to do the payroll she can't do it all so they are planning to use a mobile dongle for now. The guy that runs their IT says that he has tried everything from DNS, IP Address, bandwidth usage, firewall settings their network provider has even provided an updated router. All other websites load ok onsite but just not this one. Just throwing it out there to see if anyone has come across this type of issue before and if anyone has any ideas it would be appreciated, because I get it in the neck when I am at home. It has only happened since they moved to this cloud payroll system. Thanks

Smoothwall Cloud Filter is what we are using took a while to get setup but had no complaints.

They are 3 known educational known to us all. I know about the price increase coming but limiting the licences 3 years and forcing a renewal after that 3 years is a bit cheeky and costs more in the grand scheme of things. I will give one of them a call to ask why?
-
1 licence is quoted over 3yrs £19 but if it is bought on the quotes given of 3 years from an educational supplier then in 3 years time that licence becomes renewable? The same licence needs to purchased again in 3 years time under that quote that means another £19 which say over 6 years works out at £38 for that 1 licence so why are they offering £19 for just 3 years? its as though they are making the licence time limited and if its perpetual then surely the price on the quote shouldn't be time limited to 3 years. It can make a difference on the overall cost of the licences especially 2000 of them if say we had to renew them in 3 years time at the new price. Maybe Very PC could explain as they have chipped to the topic.

So I obtained some quotes but notice that they have all quoted similar prices , I have no problem with that but the licences are only for over 3 years. Yet I have seen online perpetual licences that last the lifetime of the device for more per licence but cheaper over the time if a chromebook is licenced and lasts 5-6 years. Anyone want to throw in any thoughts? https://www.eclipsedigitalmedia.co.uk/digital-signage-shop/chrome-device-management-license-for-education-and-non-profit/

We have been donated some new Chromebooks but are unable to enroll them into our GSuite domain because we don't have enough licenses, can anyone tell me where I can obtain the upgrade licenses from as RM are just not answering emails and they are on Googles partner list. Thanks

Would rather have Chromebooks than Windows been given both at 2 different schools and found the Chromebooks a lot quicker to run up and deploy.

Wonder what would happen if you just keep pressing the Happy Key they might leave everyone alone to get on with their job.

We have Samsung, HP and 1 x Lenovo and haven't had any complaints.

So today Teacher can host a Meet but unable to see any remote learners tested it myself with the same teacher to see if it may have been a pupil issue not having their camera on, but it the same for me as well. The teacher can be seen though which is one thing but ideally it needs to works both ways. Any ideas as to why? it was working fine the other day.

That's what I did and but somethings not right. I entered the details as well as linking the JSON file from the Google API but it gives me the sync error. I am using my GSuite admin account.
-
It is a directory sync error but where do I find oauth key? Thanks

Still not got this working I was sent some documentation by Smoothwall support that we needed to 1. update the device in school - Thats been done Create a directory in the device for Google, did this but the diagnostics showed it failed. See image, can any one shed any light on what i am doing wrong? I think its a permissions issue but what to change. Also to do this: https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015978080-Smoothwall-Filter-Firewall-Preparing-for-Cloud-Filter-to-avoid-Double-Filtering As the Chromebooks are using wifi I presume Option 2 using a Secret Knock is the option to go for. Thanks

Looks like its Tenant. I applied the settings but the diagnostics failed after the extension was deployed I have copied the results over to Smoothwall support hopefully they can enlighten me why the filtering diagnostics failed. I may have done something wrong in setting up the extension. Head is not wanting to deploy to home users until filtering is in place.

Hi All, So 1 received instructions for setting cloud filter up in the console but have become stuck on what to choose, TENNANT or MULTITENNANT. Can anyone please let me know which one i choose. We only have 32 Chromebooks and are unlike to get any more. Thanks

I agree plenty of home users that will be using it, they will most likely want that extra paid for storage from Google now that Google is getting a bit tight with its storage allocation for photo docs etc.
