Required: ICT Network Manager Payscale: £23,749 to £25,320 (points: 29 to 31) School: The Ferrers Specialist Arts College Website: The Ferrers Specialist Arts College Website Requirements: The post includes managing hardware, the school network environment and VLE. Windows XP and Office 2003 are used locally. The person appointed will also assist in the administration of ICT documentation and records and will provide classroom support for ICT, hence they will need to have a good rapport with students aged 11-18. It would be desirable for applicants to have some knowledge of RM CC3 networks, Windows 2003 Servers, Microsoft Exchange, wireless networking, the SIMS suite of software and AVCO file transfers. Hi Guys/Gals, I've got a question for you. Apparently us support personel will be getting apprasials soon and I want to be prepared when it happens. So I was wondering if the IT/Network Managers here would be able to answer the following questions (I know it's been done already, however I would like a more up-to-date one, especially since the new financial year has started). 1. What is your current salary range? 2. How many people do you have in your department? 3. How many PC's/Servers do you support? 4. What other systems do you support (eg IP camera's, VLE, Sims, telephone system, etc)? 5. Video watching, an intel graphics card would be fine. However for video editing, something along the lines of the nVidia Quadro 285 for the amount of money that you want to spend. As the Quadro's (or the ATi version) support OpenGL and were designed for this kind of work, as well as CAD/CAM work. -Ken

Generally speaking I prefer Nvidia cards over ATi, however my current work laptop has the x1600 card from ATi and it runs various software titles smoothly. -Ken

I don't see why you can't deploy Freemind via a GPO - you can create your own msi package with Wininstall LE. We use that program to create and deploy various software programs like 2d Design, Boardworks & Birchfield titles via a GPO to staff and student machines across the network. -Ken

I actually use the HP Procurve's, have you thought about the 4100 series (or the newer ones). Then all you have to do is buy the fibre modules for it. I find them realiable and they have a lifetime warrenty (plus cheaper than CISCO) -Ken
