Me too, I was alittle disappointed when I asked them if they were going to offer the ICTTech when the ECUK first annouced it and was told that they had no plans as they saw it as more engineering than IT (funny considering that they offer the CEng & IEng). However I'm glad that they decided to go for it, all we need now is an in-between (Engineering has the EngTech -> IEng -> CEng, IT now has ICTTech -> missing -> CITP). -Ken

I very much doubt that you're going to get a good course to cover everything or even the basics of what you're looking for. An intro, maybe, but nothing indepth. I would strongly recommend looking into the NVQ's in IT/System support. The NVQ/iTQ program we're going to set up with the local colelge for the new person when s/he starts includes the Comptia A+, the MCSA and poss the CCENT as well as the NVQ/iTQ levels 2 & 3. -Ken

Thanks mate Did go thru the courses that Tresham's offering and the only one that I may consider is the PTTLLS. But I'm going to see what they'll be offering in the new academic year. I use to teach the Microsoft modules, but I'm on a break - to tell the truth I'm also taking a break from MS exams, lol. -Ken

Should be easy enough for them to show where it fits into the Technical Competencies as the Becta Technical Competencies were co-developed between themselves and e-skills UK. The ICTTech mark is based on, at least, level 3 of the SFIA or e-skills PROCOM. -Ken

Hi Guys/Gals, Just wanting to know if anyone has done/doing/considering the SWiS qualification (Support work in schools qualifications). There are 2 levels: 2 & 3. While it's not an IT qualification, it is aimed at support staff in schools, including IT Services/Support staff. I'm considering doing it, just as something not IT specific If you have any experience with this, if you could just drop an answer in this thread. or if you don't know about this, see here. -ken

We (a large secondary school) support 2 primary school (with a nursery school wanting us to support them also), technically wise while working closely with the ICT Co-ordinator who are primary school based. -Ken

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has tried/currently use Sims Learning Gateway on a virtual server. I'm currently in the process of virtualising as many servers as possible, with a view to virtual Learning gateway when the new physical server arrives hopefully next week. -Ken

I assume that you've (or some else) has logged on to the server using RDP or TS. To stop this from happening you have to it turn off. -Ken

I study systematically, however as no-one can retain all the info all the time (especially me) I refresh myself alot via searches -Ken

What we do is buy Dell server with about 2gb of ram and then buy the ram separately from other suppliers. This saves us alot of money. -ken

Yep, they listen to me, this is due to 1. Partly due we're a good team and get things done and 2. Partly due to our predecessors and the mess they did... Hence they see for themselves the improvements. We always give 3 options: 1. Cheap & nasty 2. Average & OK 3. Expensive & excellent Give pro's and con's, also running costs. Most of the time we always end up with the go ahead for the average costs, which suits us fine. The prices we base any project on would be web prices, once we've been given the go ahead, we then start negotiating with our suppliers. -Ken

I have Panda at our school & it's been great, didn't like Sophos as on Celerons it slowed them down quite alot. AVG Network edition is ok, but not very friendly when it comes to upgrading between major versions (on the server, client is not problem). -ken

We have a 10 meg line, will be upgraded to 20 meg. Pretty sure that it's about £13k-£14k pa, but not 100% as it has to do with the way it's being funded for the next couple of years. -ken

We shall see what happens... So we've got the ICTTech (when it is released) which is equivalent to the EngTech, the CITP which is equivalent to the CEng, all we need now is an IT version of the IEng -Ken

Hi Guy's/Gal's, Thought that I may as well post the updates of the up and coming ICTTech mark by the ECUK, as well as a follow-up on this post. See here for the website and here for the leaflet. When I contacted the BCS about it back in August (approx) 2008, there wasn't alot of info about this and the BCS was under the impression that it was more for engineers. I e-mailed them about this again and got this response: If this goes ahead with the BCS, you'll have the option to go for the various regular & professional membership grades as well as the numerous ECUK statuses and/or BCS own CITP status* -Ken *Dependant on meeting the required requirements

I'm running Hyper-V with 3 live servers 1 test server at the moment, with a view to do more. I've had no complaints so far. The server I'm running it on is a Dell 2950 (runnng Windows 2k8, of course, enterprise edition with 16gb of Ram, storage of just under a terrabyte in a raid 5 config, with a quad core Intel chip). -Ken
