  1. I would also suggest ITIL or FITS. You don't state if you work alone or not, but how about the NVQ 2 in Team Leading and/or Customer Service. Technical skills are great, but never under-estimate your soft skills. If you already have a level 3 qualification and the required experience, you may want to consider the ICTTech credential from the ECUK via the IET or membership into the BCS working towards the CITP (Chartered status). -ken
  2. Hi Guy's/Gal's Welcome onboard -Ken
  3. Cool, is that a level 4 NVQ with level 5 modules? Or a level 4 with the view to progress to level 5? As the higher level in IT I've seen is level 4 (with level 5 modules). As a NVQ 5 would be comparable to Masters degree level, that would be something I'd be interested in -Ken
  4. Personally I would say level 3 for the more advanced tech (eg a technician with a couple to few years experience or a senior tech). And depending on your job role and responsibilities level 4 for the senior tech with more responsibilities to IT/Network Manager. While I have not gone thru the route of apprenticeships myself (my tech is currently doing his level 2 and he just started working in IT this year), I have gone thru the NVQ process, and still going thru it - however this time I'm doing management instead of an IT related subject. -Ken
  5. Sorry can't help you there, we just get errors during installation saying that sims isn't support on a 64bit OS, oh well... -ken
  6. Cool, congrats -ken
  7. While I wouldn't class it as full-time myself (6 1/2 hours per day), it does sound like a good post. Good luck to those that apply -Ken
  8. Pity, this was one meeting I would have loved to go on (however I'm in Southampton with the Data/Sims Manager) mainly due to FITS and the certification/accredition, something I'm really interested in. -Ken
  9. Just wondering, has your techies tried to install on a the librarian client software on a machine that hasn't been RM'd? This may help discover if it's a RM issue or not. -ken
  10. Not a bad wage for an apprentice, considering that you can go up to a NVQ 4* on an apprenticeship (which is comparable to a degree, not to be confused with a level 4 qual on the NQF, as the NVQ is based on the old framework so covers levels 4-6 on the new framework). To earn a degree level qualification and not be in debt of £kkk's of pounds, is a very good idea imo. -Ken *dependant on your training provider (the one we use goes up to NVQ 4 in IT)
  11. No, it stopped working after we applied the SIMS Learning Gateway 2 August 2009 Release. We were running it fine before the mentioned patches from Sims on our 2k8 R2 domain. -Ken
  12. The provisioning worked before the SIMS Learning Gateway 2 August 2009 Release from Capita though. -Ken
  13. Just to let you guys know that I have submitted a "Change Request" with Capita (as requested by Capita) to make Sims Learning Gateway compatible with Windows 2008 R2. So even though Microsoft has released R2 out via Software Assurance over a month ago, I have to wait and see if Capita decides if it's worth it by a voting system So please get voting -Ken
  14. Don't know off the top of my head, however have you considered self-study? Pinnacle offer "complete" electronic training, the only thing is that it looks like it's for version 14. If you're not too bothered about the version difference it may be worth a gander especially at $49.99 (approx £32.00). -Ken
  15. This may help you, a ADM file for Firefox (import it into AD). It should help you with administering FF setting via AD. -ken
  16. We have a bell system, but to be honest I seldom hear it. I don't work by them, so for me it's immaterial whether or not it runs -ken
  17. CompTIA Project+ Beta Exam Complete this form to apply for a free Project+ beta exam voucher. See the rules below. 1.Free vouchers are available to the first 400 people to take the exam. Filling out this application does not guarantee a free voucher. 2.Beta exam takers must be willing to wait until launch of the live exam (fourth quarter 2009) to receive test results (pass/fail and score). If you are unwilling to meet that requirement, please do not submit this application. 3.Only one voucher to a customer. I've got my exam book this Friday. Because this is a beta exam there are no study materials specific to this exam version, however we have been told that the study materials for the previous version will help. -Ken Edit: BTW the Project+ is a level 4 qualification in the UK
  18. I did the v3 Foundation exam by self studying with [ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Passing-your-ITIL-foundation-exam/dp/011331079X]this [/ame]book over a week and sat the exam at the end of that week. Passed on the passing score, as I found it dry and boring. Choose to take the exam via EXIN instead of ISEB as it was a few quid cheaper. Not sure if I could put myself thru the other ITIL courses just because the foundation was so boring, but each to their own -Ken
  19. I use to work at Tresham and they are ok to work for. -ken
  20. We've already upgrade and running a 2k8 R2 domain and forest, we did have a couple of issues, but nothing we couldn't sort out, like DHCP (we tried a few things but in the end created a Virtual 2k3 server for it) and filtering (it took a couple of days for AD replication to upgrade the Sophos box). You can install Exchange 2007 on Windows 2008 R2, however you need to install/use SP2 for Exchange 2007. -ken
  21. There are no published training material out there as the exams haven't been released yet. However you can map the exam objectives with various articles in Technet. You can see here for the 71-868 exam I'll be sitting that exam this Friday -Ken btw, you do not get the MCP credential with Windows 7, you get the MCTS credential
  22. If you take a look, I've posted a few things about the 2 new beta exams (the Pro ones for MCITP: EDA 7 & MCITP: EDST 7) and a few people have posted about their experiences -ken
  23. If there's any of these jobs (at that salary) in Northants, that would be better -ken
  24. If you want to volunteer, PM me, we can always do with a free volunteer. If you're interested, I'll have a word with my manager (SLT) -ken
  25. We're terminating fibre tomorrow (couldn't face it today), installing switches and a few UPS's ready for Monday... -ken
