They are konica minolta MFDs on our site with the managed setup we have, we also have some brother and hp printers that are being slowly phased out, though they are individual or area specific printers making quite a mixture. The pull queue uses the PCL driver for the C652 we have and its set up the same as the C652 and finisher so that staff can print off stapled jobs if needs be using it, when we migrated the server, I mimiced all the old settings to the new server. I have seen the problem happening live now multiple times, Altman would like me to capture it so they can see it for themselves though, what happens is basically they click print, they then get the client code selection screen appear, usually their main department it defaults to, I selected Maths which this user had access too and it seemed to be sitting there fine, I had the windows printer queue open on the computer and it basically just disappeared off the device about 4/5 seconds after selecting the client code. It was an A4 PDF page which was fine for us, our printers are set and print - A4, A3 and can accommodate "Letter" when a program shoves them through in that size by mistake, usually on release of the job if its letter they just have to manually tell the printer its an A4. The reject log for pcounter doesnt record anything, neither does the pcounter log on the server.

Hello Edugeekers, I have raised the issue with Altman and spoken with their tech support, but I had a good point raised by @garethedmondson today, in that I should ask on here as well especially as we seem to be having a strange intermittent issue at the moment with our pcounter system its happened since our rebuild and virtualisation. At the school I work, we are having an odd issue that has only affected 5 users so far, with printer jobs not sitting in the queues longer than 15 seconds before simply disappearing after the person selects their departments client code, this typically lasts in excess of 5 minutes on the machine where anything they can print will simply disappear, but its very frustrating for the user as they can come right across the campus thinking their jobs are still there to find nothing waiting for them. We have pcounter setup so that all staff will print to a mapped "Pull Queue" printer, they can then go along to any MFD on the network and select and print off their jobs, staff have unlimited credit on our system with departments being billed for their relevant staff usages. All MFD printers and the pull queue are setup in the same manner, though the config of the pull queue differs slightly in line with Altmans setup guides, we have eliminated it being the obvious settings like "Delete Duplicate Jobs" as that is turned off on the Queue and all MFD devices. We have had all the relevant checks done by me having gone right through the system and double checked by Altman and we are still seeing the issue occasionally, even the event viewer and pcounter logs do not show the job, it simply disappears from sight on the windows printer queue, though everything seems absolutely fine and normal as regards putting the print job through to the printer. At the moment, we are stumped, has anyone else experienced anything like this with their setups ? Thanks, Rich

I know Seren is Star in Welsh havent looked at the video yet though Edit, now I have: from what I could see, it looks like impero in action there from what I saw in one place definitely, doesnt explain much about anything else really I felt, didnt show anything specific to what technologies are used, if they have dumped things like policies and simply use impero to control machines and ipads it probably would be a bit lighter on the logon times, though missing a lot of the backend stuff. The fact that their not googleable on any of the first three pages putting seren education in the search window makes me wonder a bit too.

If you get it onto the domain, you can allocate permissions easily enough in its web interface for each share, on both a group and user level if need be, though we tend to control access to the shares full stop here, if they dont have that share, it doesnt map in windows when it comes to the users here.

They are easy enough, you will get them to Auth to your network, most of them can join a domain easily enough within their internal software and you can manage them accordingly then. I would recommend Buffalo ones after seeing two of them in action where I work, also Synology and QNAP make some nice devices that I have seen. Tax on sugar and its content on foods I would very much welcome, Its pretty much everywhere with everything these days and alarming, more alarming again what companies do with lobbying to prevent legislations going through. I would like to see a £1 at least added in tax on things like chewing gum to fund cleaning of streets better too, where I live the pavements need blasting big time. I would also like to see things like Council Tax having optional elements to them allowing you to opt out of services that you dont use ! thats not going to happen ever though in reality.

I have had to ring it a fair few times with our MFDs here and their supplied pcounter and embedded softwares, their call centres have changed locations a few times too over the years, I think that overall with experiences I have had, I would say support wise overall that it ranges from good to awful experience wise with them in all honesty, they can bounce it about if its technical and blame a department, like our pcounter embedded licensing not being renewed recently sticking them all on stop after they were left to expire was the fault of their German Licensing team apparently, despite me raising the issue some 2/3 months prior about our licence needing transferring from Trial to Proper on our new print server. When your logging a call, their call centre I am informed now is based in Romania, which does make it a little hard to understand depending on the person you are speaking with and I find myself asking for things to be repeated multiple times if logging faults some times. What you will find though, if you log a call and its something non-engineer related you will get people ringing you back from the UK to follow up and sort a lot of it, its the initial reporting bit that is on the foreign helpdesk, majority of the time here we are followed up with by an engineer/telephone call from the UK and that can range from good to bad as I have said.

I think sadly its a necessary evil this, pound coin counterfeiting is rife to the point where its not really checked anywhere from what I can see, you can tell easy enough at the moment which ones are fake or not too, usually horrible machining of the writing on the edges. New design doesnt seem that bad to me, nice and quirky

I agree with sentiments, gravy and ketchup/sauce of any kind is very much wrong as I see it and a food no-no, no need to add sauce to sauce ! as regards salt and pepper though, my grandparents are very much in the "Add Salt" to everything bracket, even if they have cooked it with a touch of salt, things like Veg, they will then add more salt to it at the table before eating it, something that I cannot fathom. That being said too, they are both in their late seventies now having spent their lives salting up everything they eat and eating all forms of red/white meat and fish pretty much constantly throughout that time, frying everything in Lard/dripping and cooking with suet/trex while following up on a fair amount of meals with puddings and enjoying a few beers, lots to be said of health eating and balanced diets when I look at them or is it that their a much different and probably more robust generation.

we have a couple in place, used for our VC stuff at both ends, switched everything else over to GBICs when we bought out netgears, as they had an offer on at the time for free GBICs when we bought the switches. Have a neat stack of a few of them sitting on a shelf in our server room other than that.

I think I take more of an issue with people who carry out, condiment misuse as I see it ! I had a colleague I worked with last year, who would have the following from the chip shop when we called there in summer holidays, Large Minced Beef and Onion Pie, Mushy Peas, Chips and Gravy, onto which he would pour a generous helping of Heinz Tomato Ketchup, pretty much coating a large portion of it, it turned the stomach of the cleaning supervisor at the school and a couple of the cleaners (I am immune to a lot of this after working in a hospital, you quickly develop a strong stomach in that environment) I also have a different friend who would have a normal sunday dinner plated up, eat everything on it with a generous helping of ketchup, no gravy at all with his dinner, just a bottle of ketchup, which I found quite alien and not normal. Am I crazy or is this all wrong ?

Oneill make some decent large sized laptop backpacks also, I have a £25 one here that you can easily fit a 17" laptop into as well as a load of other gear and its outlasted every other backpack or bag I have had, still going strong here after three years+

I have a decent PC in the office and a better one at home, home is multi use though for mainly enjoyment through netflix/gaming, word processing and rdp work, whereas work pc is pure work, seems to be a bit of a "master of the obvious stuff" that article though, a high percentages of peoples home machines will be "better" than corporate stuff and usually setup the way they like personally, compared to locked down environments in corporate, imo users who are not technically competent have to be shepherded and only given access to what is needed, we all know the type there though I think.

After the break, I have revisited this and wanted to thank you for your help, I realised when I was sitting there looking at the RM document, that pretty much every issue which I had experienced had "2008 R2" next to it, so along with advice in the thread, I have decided to bite the bullet and created a normal 2008 server, which has worked like a charm so far in its creation. The only issue I have now is that, Ideally I would like to move the database off the old server onto the new one and wanted to know if anyone had experience of this ? Its that horrible Sybase database software they use so I am unsure about it, I have had a brief chat to RM about it yesterday when they rang on an off-chance wanting to speak to a colleague, the upshot of their "non-help" is that they want to send out an engineer to us at cost to do it as its not a product they actively support these days, especially as we are version 1.7.2 SP1, and it can be a bit "tricky" to move a database from one server to another according to their staff member. I don't want to pay for any engineer visit for something which is doable possibly by myself in-house, so if anyone has that experience and would not mind sharing, it would be great, Thanks, Rich

The main thing with insurance is the milestone ages as well as the size of your car, if your in the young driver category (especially17-22, but pretty much everything under 25)these days you will get hammered or you take the black box option, where you have to behave from what I can tell, I had a 2.0 Mondeo when I was nearly 22 as my first car (I am a pretty big guy and had enough of a torturous time at college with the few friends who had cars such as Metros, Polo's and Fiesta's to be put off a small car and as I was working then, decided to pay for something decent) and I paid £1200 a year to insure it back then (2002 this was and I did not drive like a t*t either) that was high for a few years until I hit 25, where it dropped like a stone on renewing, to £400 a year with a few years no claims under my belt, before I got rid of the car then. Unfortunately its other things like the endless false "Whiplash" and fake crash, claims that get made that end up pushing up the premiums for users as well. I had that joy with a minor accident in 2009 where I had a very minor accident at under 5mph, where the car skidded on black ice into the back of a corsa, the girl was absolutely fine initially, only a small dent in her plastic bumper, until the mention of "if no ones injured, we just swap insurance details and go on our way" where the girl then swan dived onto her aunt in some of the best amateur dramatics I have ever seen, forcing me to call an ambulance and the police and having the girl making that claim. All for an extra £1000 she got offered on top of her car repairs, claiming that she lost her job in a local shop as a result of the injury and everything :/
