It could be sticking because of trouble installing the drivers, I had to turn look at those restrictions on our school network because of GPP issues as well when we switched to 7, nowadays it takes seconds to get past this bit (we only map 1/2 printers max here depending on location for the majority of staff/pupils)

How do you deploy printer settings on your network? Is it an xps network or windows 7 based? Are printers through a central server or local?

Been waiting ages to post that somewhere online ! Cinema sound is horribly loud, last film I saw in cinema was Avenger's Assemble and that was bordering deafening back then. Thank god for orange wednesdays with the price too. I think my hearing is starting to decline anyway, TV can be pretty loud in our house because of a family members partial deafness and I think the boy damaged my hearing a little screaming into my ears when he suffered with colic for about 2 months last year, ever since then things have been quieter and I struggle to hear in loud environments like our server room / pubs or anywhere theres a lot of people/background noise

Our specific setup at the moment as we are using Aruba equipment through our existing AD system, it operates a Guest and a "Proper" network. Guest network is an open unsecured wifi that any user can connect to in the school areas covered by our 4 wifi APs, on connection it takes them to a "Capture Portal" page where they must log in with some further AD credentials to get any further (we have a Guest user account that we lend out to people needing the web who come into the school) for staff and students, it is set to filter the internet at the appropriate level then for their access. It took a long time to get this system working and right, but its stable now for us with few issues, one of the few we found is that every so often the team will basically delete 5,000 devices off our controller, where the kids have tried to take their phones/ipods online and connect once or its failed to connect. When machines are authed onto the guest network, they have internet access and that is it, they do not have any further connectivity to our systems internally. The "Proper" network is secured and has an SSID and will only allow machines already placed in our networking ADs to connect to that (we have a couple of windows laptops we use for this purpose) when the devices are setup on this, they function the same as any other machine on the network and have full (albeit slower because wifi is 100mb whereas wired network is largely 1gb across the board) access to the network and all the servers and normal functions same as any particular curriculum/admin network machine.

Why they cannot combine these needed dependencies into the installer is anyones guess, I had a real PITA of a time the other day, searching for and deploying multiple updates to get IE10 out on our site.

I agree that it is something that should be adequately planned, though I expect with government theres little homogenisation of the process or departments, everyone goes it alone ill wager. We had the planning down at our school and testing, though its not a straightforward process upgrading, though it was a bit of a revolutioniser as well with 7, even though they do stuff fairly differently which we found out as a school when we went 7, there was a knock on effect that we had to spend further money to upgrade some older software to make it compatible (Sibelius and SuccessMaker were two major products that had to be upgraded). I cant imagine doing it on a country wide level.

Its something we are in the midst at on our site at the moment going completely 64 bit, it is a headache especially with things like the start menus, I had considered the start menus redirects and WMI filters, but I have to work out where our LEA are at with our start menu redirections first. Going 64 bit site wide is not without its problems too, the latest I am seeing are issues with our USB to Serial connectors for our machines and their interactive whiteboards, going 64 bit for us means that there are no decent drivers or support for these cables so I have had to revert some machines back to the stable 32 bit win 7 atm until we can look at ordering better alternatives as the supposed stable drivers either dont work with 64 bit, or cause multiple crashes and blue screens (their a necessary evil the cables for us seeing as our machines from a certain "rock" supplier, dont have serial ports on them).

ours was setup as part of our EES I believe by the reseller, its very good, staff can purchase their key for both office 2010/2013 and windows7/8/8.1 for under £20 on the scheme (been a while since I bought on there helping a staffmember) Also worth signing up for Dreamspark for your school as well with MS, students can have more free MS stuff through there.

I currently pay £47.50 a month for 120 MB Broadband and M package telephone. December this year its getting boosted to 152 MB apparently on logging in to check. I wont get TV because I don't ever want to be in the "Lose Sky" situation I was in before when they argued, though I think with netflix and country switching addons, I will go to a low package on that eventually and use the NET on the TV.

we had one bought for us the Wife and I, but didn't bother with it in the end because of this, the other one we have and bought ourselves first is without video and just a mic and sensor mat has worked well throughout our boys first year.

User accounting shows nothing so far, from my POV here, I have stepped back and examined a lot of what was going on, it looks to me now to possibly be more to do with Windows Server 2008R2 and its print services than anything else, What I have done today, is untick the "render jobs on client computers" box of the printer properties, to get the print server pumping away doing that work instead of possible permissions errors on the windows PC. The only issue though I had today then, was that the print server appeared to have a bit of a funny turn around 12:45 where loads of jobs went through to the pull queue with the staff and it seemed to need rebooting as it said "ready" instead of "paused" and had no cost attached to them in the queue. The next thing I will look at from my POV is driver isolation and getting that set on there. Bit of a frustrating this stuff as it never ever happened before on our old server

As the title says, I am having major problems with this program, it exists on a 2003 server which is about to be decommed, so I want to move it onto my newly virtualised server setup (this basically I intend to have reside along our existing successmaker server, the same as its worked on the 2003 server), Its a plain 2008 server on hyper-v its going to. I have been through the rigmarole already with Avid to unregister the existing server and I have downloaded the most recent version of the Sib licence server software, but on installing it onto the new box now, when I go into the Avid Licence Control it gives me basically a blank screen with only Windows Vista on it, I will add that in tomorrow morning when I am back in work, its not giving me any information at all to allow the registration to proceed. Avids help so far has consisted of "Delete the ProgramData>Avid>Sibelius>Licence server and remove and reinstall the program, which I have done to no avail, even after their 35 minute brainwashing attempt while I rang their helpdesk. Anyone had this problem before on a VM and gotten around it ? Thanks, Rich

After completing its migration, I just wanted to follow it up with a Thanks to the thread and its participants, We now have a Windows Server 2008 VM running this server version 1.7.2 SP1 and it is going fine, No teething problems at all with plain 2008, I would say based on the experience with it, avoid 2008 R2 especially in a VM for this software, it caused major headaches when switching them over in that most of the stuff RM had as a possible issue happened and a lot of their "Cures" didn't work. I played through the game a couple of times after getting it free from the offer blizzard had for signing up for a years wow subs at the time, didnt see the point in levelling it up after I had been through it with most classes, just didnt have the grab on me there this game, wasnt bad as a game goes though

reject log was the first place I looked, its frustrating because it keeps happening intermittently, it may be fine for a week or two then wham again !

cable tying mice and keyboards to machines can stop damage to both the USB/PS2 ports and things like thefts, I did that here in our IT Suites and its slowed down a fair bit of theft/vandalism of mice nowadays, I would only recommend decent mice too as mentioned, when I started here there were some sweex. Print management can be a massive area of savings, dont be afraid to try and get rid of printers either and cap users usages on the systems, look at what you need on your campus, when I started here we had 10 MFDs, several even had finishers outside of our print room and departmental printers initially on our managed printing platform, all over the shop, when geographically we could do with far less, especially when printers cost you in terms of rentals to begin with, its cheaper to make staff walk a little bit rather than rent a copier when you already have one in a building/block. (though some sites wont support that)

Hello and thanks for your help all, The job isnt getting as far as the MFDs looking at it, its just sitting on the pull queue for about 20 seconds total before disappearing, I have been right through the Event Viewer on the server which is where the pull queue printer is based and there is nothing at all in there relating to the jobs at all. Its as though they havent ever printed at all. EDIT: I have been through the event viewer on the machine I printed from, there are errors in the printservice bit, but I do not see how they would be related, the errors relate to the print processor for a different printer attached to their OU in the network a Brother 2700 printer that they have there. I have changed its print processor now, hopefully that error will disappear, but it is definitely related to the Brother printers and not the KM Pull queue we have running.
