I cant help but think their heading fast towards a "Dead Company Walking" scenario when it comes to hardware, just like Sega did which is a real shame, as they have been quite innovative over the years, everything before Gamecube was fairly decent (Personally I think Gamecube was the "Saturn" of the company, it was no great success compared to the N64 or SNES before it, it had games, but was completely overshadowed and blown out of the water by Sony and MS at the time) They also have an image problem, their the child in a room of grown ups these days I think, their reliance on "Cutesy/Kidsy" branded games like the Mario/Pokemon/Skylanders franchises are offputting as a serious gaming machine to a lot of people(I get their appealing though to a different market), add in the lack of "Multiplayability" that you get with PCs/Other consoles and its not looking good at all for them. The only other thing I never quite understood with them was why they bothered with the 3DS given it caused a lot of problems with Eye Strain and Motion Sickness and massive negative publicity because of that, similar to MS and the whole Metro interface, even with people saying its a bad thing, ploughing ahead with a release instead of reworking it can be very damaging in the finances its proven.

SuccessMaker is another one you might come across, its a horrible program to install and maintain, nevermind move servers but it is used by SEN in places, actual program isnt all that bad though.

I have a question I hope some people can answer for me on here, I have been lately looking at Veeam on our site, we have used the free edition for ages since our virtual platform went live, I have been manually backing up servers since its gone live (aside from our print and successmaker servers, our other server backups dont change massively at all on a day to day basis), we are looking to automate the process by buying the full product, but wondering what version we should stump for ? I have looked at the comparison pages and features and dont see anything "Stand out" to say I need to go for the enterprise edition over the standard looking at it ? Basically on our platform at the moment, we have 2 node servers, each has 2xIntel Xeon Quad Core processors installed, We don't run exchange or sharepoint, just our internal applications on servers, and our main fileserver is physical and backed up seperately by our county ICT team. Am I right in thinking that the standard edition is enough for our environment and its backup needs ? We basically want to automate the backup procedure to a daily basis for those servers needed, we have a batch job in place to copy the files then to our NAS on site.

Startling considering the amount of cash these companies get flung at them especially by Govt departments usually, where they can often save more cash by doing the legwork themselves more often than not.

Congratulations Luke, its life changing and awesome parenthood, little man is 13 months here and started walking this week, hes also been chattering away pretty much non-stop for the last 4 months. +1 for kiddicare, they are excellent, also be prepared for things like "Mother and Baby" events that happen quite regularly with the supermarkets, some decent discounting goes on there when those event's go live.

Was a device driver when I had that issue, was basically taking it down as Windows was loading the drivers on one of our old boxes here.

Having looked at the T+Cs on our webstore that was setup, it doesnt mention anything about removing it on leaving regarding the OS, though if a staff member were to leave here, they would lose access to their staff email anyway, which is necessary to get access to the downloads and keys of the software. Our webstore only allows the user access to the download and key for a limited time up front and you can pay to extend it for a year, its no massive issue though provided you download the files and print off the key and make sure you have backups, it does offer other software as well looking at it, Nero Burning ROM and other stuff is on there with an educational discount.

Thanks Gareth, Nice of you to make this thread was out last night so I am now catching up with edugeek over morning coffee on the chromebook He still helps out with the IT to be fair, we are a department of 2 people doing the IT work in a "medium" sized comprehensive (we are heading towards 1000+ pupils on roll in the next couple of years, our IT system is about 450 devices on our network at the moment, but looking like expanding with Wireless across the site soon enough I think). We have both been doing the technical work since I started and over the last two years+ I think we have refreshed and revamped a lot of the school very much for the better, we have gone virtualised for all our in-house servers now, which was the largest scale IT project I have been involved with in years and was fun and scary at times (especially when HP drivers caused some bluescreens on our newly built cluster I found).

I wouldnt install that on the DC, as said its not recommended, keep your DC to essential stuff only really.

what server you running ? desktop OS ? policies ? We are looking at ours at the moment here, as there is an issue with things like Folder REdirection taking an age to complete.

I was on Win2k at home which I had put on my home machine instead of Millenium Edition it came pre-installed with until this came along Decent stable OS and testament to M$ doing things decent that it lasted this long, instead of the likes of ME/Vista

I just wanted to close off this thread and thank all for their suggestions and support. I think the issue was down to the print drivers and the print server, not pcounter as I initially thought, it appears that in beefing up the VM spec a bit in anticipation of the demand with isolation and turning on Driver Isolation on the print queue on the server, I have cured this problem, I have not had a job reported to me as disappearing within the last two weeks that its been active now. *touches wood* I have isolation on for our MFDs now that people can print directly too as a further precaution, all is well so far.
