  1. When you say allow access, how have you done it? via named cpl (powercfg.cpl) or name of item in control panel?
  2. If you press F8 at boot up you can stop the reboot after the BSOD. That should allow you to get more info on the fault.
  3. HBJB: If you have a schools agreement then you will have enough licenses to cover all your PCs. As you're using the the win 7 ent that comes with the schools agreement, why not just use a KMS server? You won't need to do anything then.
  4. For a win 7 install we tend to disable the firewall on the client temporarily and I'm sure you've been enabling the remote registry service to get it on the others. Hmmm........ You've gone through our common problems on install of sophos. Don't think I can be much more help from here, sounds like very specific issue. Sorry. Best of luck with it!
  5. As a check, disable the firewall on the client to see if you can then contact it from the server. Which OS is on the client / server?
  6. A couple of things to try - Check Date and time on clients Can console server ping the client and vice versa - we've run into problems where the IP /DNS doesn't tally - do an ipconfig on the client and check the console is looking to the right IP
  7. After the recent untimely death of a colleague, we are looking to recruit a replacement tech: Closing date: 9.00am Friday 8th October 2010 Starting salary will be at bottom of range Further details on website here Questions via PM welcome
  8. Give this a go: function FindProxyForURL(url, host) { // Execptions for direct connection if (shExpMatch(url, "*google.com*") shExpMatch(url, "*example2.com*")) return "DIRECT"; // Proxy if PC is on local LAN if (isInNet(myIpAddress(), "172.16.96.0", "255.255.252.0")) return "PROXY 172.16.96.52:8080"; else if (isInNet(myIpAddress(), "172.16.16.0", "255.255.252.0")) return "PROXY 172.16.16.30:8080"; // Everything else to go direct else return "DIRECT"; }
  9. How are you specifying the PAC file? DHCP option?
  10. If the head has sky at home, get sky player working on their PC. That way they can watch the cricket when they want
  11. One thing others may find useful is memory card readers sometimes take the drive letter first. Using USBDLM will prevent this: USB drive letter manager - USBDLM
  12. Have a look here: Information about new Group Policy preferences in Windows Server 2008 It's one of the best things about Server 2008R2
  13. Have a look here: You Had Me At EHLO... : iOS 4 and Exchange ActiveSync
  14. Do you have iphones syncing with it? I read yesterday that they can put an excessive load on 2010
  15. @PhilNeal: To get back on topic, could you give us some details of how InTouch works? We've bought it and opened the port as requested (well it was open for Learning Gateway all ready). The Capita solution is somewhat different to the other solutions I've seen before in this respect as it uses a VPN.
  16. £299 for the 32 port charger according to the pdf on their site.
  17. Our system is provided by our catering company (which is a part of the LA). They use Cashless EPoS Cashless Catering Cashless Tills from Cunninghams EPoS Solutions
  18. Its the desktop.ini file in the users folder that does this. You could either bulk delete them or replace them all with a read only / permission fixed version - I've not tried either option yet so test and backup before you try this.
  19. try hill components, they have loads of types. Hills Components UK are just a quid a pair.
  20. Depends which MIS you use. For SIMS capita have just launched their own - intouch. Others for SIMS include schoolcomms and callparents.
  21. Under Hyper-V I use a min of 2GB for Windows 2003 servers, 4GB for 2008 / 2008R2 servers. If you have a large number of SIMS users I'd got with 8GB or more. We only reserve 2GB for the host.
  22. Just found a nice free bit of software for converting pdfs to ebooks, which makes them more kindle friendly. Mobipocket eBook Creator
  23. According to the kindle shop nothing has changed for newspapers. Still text only and arrives starting 7.15am. Not sure on download times - guess that will depend on whether wifi, 3G or GPRS. £13.99 a month is a bit steep IMHO for a newspaper. The only review of the Independent download claims all the articles in the kindle version are on the independent website anyway. So you could just use the inbuilt browser and save the cash.
  24. Ordered it 3 weeks ago. Got it delivered this morning (sat) - didn't pay for delivery either. Might have a look at formatting pdfs when I get a bit of time.
  25. Got my kindle today First Impressions: Nice size, just fits in one of my larger that average hands. Nice shape and weight. Text is very clear and easy to read - much better than a computer screen. Loaded a couple of PDFs and this is where it isn't perfect. It doesn't re-format the text for the screen and make it a font adjustable format. You're limited to zooming in / out of the pages. However if your rotate the screen via a menu, the pdfs I've tried are quite readable. PDF text is search-able, but in a 400 page book its very slow (can be over 30 secs between finds). There is a web browser too! Its not great but usable. 3G / GPRS is ok, but wifi quite speedy. Any questions, I'll try and answer them.
