  1. Ah, that's silly of them! Well if you manually install it on one machine, using the normal CP/Settings method, you should be able to do an export of the appx, but it's not exactly a "neat" way of doing it Steve
  2. It's the VDI only flag (ALLUSER) you're using though he's referring to Worth reading the link he linked. Steve
  3. Yep, but if you're talking using another provider to backup "to" your Microsoft cloud it'd be similar pricing Thus the query about your wording of Cloud solutions. So you mean pulling downwards from Azure/365 to local prem? or to another cloud? Would highly recommend Veeam for 365 backups if you haven't looked at it (for 365->cloud/on-prem), obviously also links into other Veeam products if you use any. You can pay per user too, so if you only want to do staff etc that's options. Steve
  4. I mean if it's for your "Microsoft Cloud based solution" any reason you aren't looking at the Azure backups? If you're already linked into their ecosystem etc Or do you mean backing up from Azure? Steve
  5. Without the hassle of exporting it from an image etc, can't you just ask for a copy from them? How do you get your official ISOs/Licenses etc to deploy now? Steve
  6. Thanks guys, appreciate the insights. Will have to try to get some more details from the school, and have a nosy at their current licensing to see where to go, as should narrow down what is and isn't licened, which hopefully will be in a week or two tops, and then can re-evaluate where they stand Thanks, Steve
  7. Firstly I assume you realise that’s not a supporter config? Only 2 node switchless is But in terms of actually getting it to work I think you have to use separate subnets on each connection, they shouldn’t clash in terms of routing where currently they are with you using similar ips etc Might be worth a try on one Steve
  8. I mean obvious question, but can it get via your proxy/filtering ok on that server/client? Seems to be a similar error to ones in past when it was bouncing on some urls Steve
  9. Ah my bad skipped over that line, is that £50 for 2019 downgraded currently? Or was that for 2016 direct? Thanks, Steve
  10. Aye, it seems to be about 7 VMs that data centre breaks even on. The HOST aspect is covered in a license either way as it's HOST+2VM a single license gives, which is why I just mentioned about using it that way around, but it's not really paying for it as such as it's covers 2 VMs on top The problem is where it's 2016+ that it then also takes cores into account, so will obviously depend how many cores in total each server has in terms of licensing, but all a bit of guess work currently until I get access to VL etc Between the licensing and warranties, feel it's gonna be a lot cheaper to just replace half of these with beefier HOSTs Steve
  11. Good Morning All, So doing some work with another school, and trying to do some backwork to their setup while I have some spare time, and trying to get my head around how this mess can be licensed most cost effectively (Now I fully get the, these all need to be binned and updated stance, but in terms of making sure they are just licensed properly in the current state ) They have a lot of old servers etc still being used as below, and unless they have a huge amount of 2016 licenses purchased, I can't see how this can be licensed currently (*if it is*) without spending a bomb (don't have access to their VL yet) PHYSICAL - 2008R2 x2 2012R2 x3 HOSTs - 2008R2 - HyperV x1 2012R2 - Core x4 VMs - 2008R2 x4 2012R2 x6 2016 x4 Based on the above: For 5 Physical servers - 2008R2 x2 / 2012R2 x3 - that's the easy part Now the 5 HOSTs are all using the free HyperV licenses (whether 2008R2/2012R2), which I'm assuming at this point means they aren't licensed separately, therefore no free VMs can be included Now the tricky bit is the VMs, working backwards, 2016 x4 VMs, would need 16x 2016 2-Core Pack (assuming that the VMs are only on 2 hosts (2 each) and under the core cap), potentially up to 32x 2016 2-Core Pack licenses if split across the 4 HOSTs, which then may need up to 64x if it's not fully covering the cores of the hosts. That still leaves 2008R2 x4 and 2012R2 x6 to be licensed, that'd need 2008R2 x4 (Unless Enterprise which would then be 1 if on same server), and 2012R2 x3 (Again assuming they're on the "right" server to share licenses, else potentially up to 2012R2 x5 to cross HOSTs Best case I can see would be something like: PHYSICAL01 - OS: 2008R2 - License: 1x 2008R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL02 - OS: 2008R2 - License: 1x 2008R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL03 - OS: 2012R2 - License: 1x 2012R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL04 - OS: 2012R2 - License: 1x 2012R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL05 - OS: 2012R2 - License: 1x 2012R2 (or downgrade rights) HOST01 - OS: 2008R2 HyperV - License: Replace with 2x 2012R2 Standard (or downgrade rights) HOST02 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 2x 2012R2 Standard (or downgrade rights) HOST03 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 1x 2012R2 Standard (or downgrade rights) HOST04 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 8x 2016 2-Core (Minimum requirements) HOST05 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 8x 2016 2-Core (Minimum requirements) VM01 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM02 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM03 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM04 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM05 - OS: 2012R2 - License: Included with HOST02 VM06 - OS: 2012R2 - License: Included with HOST02 VM07 - OS: 2012R2 - License: Included with HOST02 VM08 - OS: 2012R2 - License: Included with HOST02 VM09 - OS: 2012R2 - License: Included with HOST03 VM10 - OS: 2012R2 - License: Included with HOST03 VM11 - OS: 2016 - License: Included with HOST04 VM12 - OS: 2016 - License: Included with HOST04 VM13 - OS: 2016 - License: Included with HOST05 VM14 - OS: 2016 - License: Included with HOST05 Requiring: 2x 2008R2 (or downgrade rights) 8x 2012R2 Standard (or downgrade rights) 16x 2016 2-Core Worst Case based on the assumption the 2016s aren't spread nicely, and cores are larger than the minimum: PHYSICAL01 - OS: 2008R2 - License: 1x 2008R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL02 - OS: 2008R2 - License: 1x 2008R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL03 - OS: 2012R2 - License: 1x 2012R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL04 - OS: 2012R2 - License: 1x 2012R2 (or downgrade rights) PHYSICAL05 - OS: 2012R2 - License: 1x 2012R2 (or downgrade rights) HOST01 - OS: 2008R2 HyperV - License: 2x 2012R2 Standard (or downgrade rights) HOST02 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 16x 2016 2-Core (Based on 2x over 8 core processors) HOST03 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 16x 2016 2-Core (Based on 2x over 8 core processors) HOST04 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 16x 2016 2-Core (Based on 2x over 8 core processors) HOST05 - OS: 2012R2 Core - License: Replace with 16x 2016 2-Core (Based on 2x over 8 core processors) VM01 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM02 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM03 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM04 - OS: 2008R2 - License: Included with HOST01 VM05 - OS: 2012R2 - License: ??? Thanks, Steve
  12. Add regkey during the task to disable windows updates on drivers? Then gpo it back in once built Steve
  13. Haha Well put it another way. Whether or not it actually applies to Edu installs, it won't stop it showing in SCCM unless there's another issue Like filtering out, ESD files blocking, or the correct settings for sync'ing updates etc It'll pull every update down (and/or show them as an option), just won't apply them to the SUP when it runs that task Steve
  14. Business should still apply to Edu ones, as it's just volume licensing isn't it? The other thing is I take it people have been adding ESD as a MIME type on their WSUS servers? Just wondering if that's why some of you might have stopped receiving the updates Steve
  15. Well I mean cleaning wise, I guess that's "expected" but not in any actual terms you agreed to Spec wise, did you pay for the RAM upgrades as part of the order? If so the order isn't complete, so don't pay for it yet Assuming you did this via an invoice/purchase order? Steve
  16. I take it you have the products (1903+later) and classifications (security + upgrades) set ok on SCCM? Steve
  17. Is that just the 1st load per reboot, or the 1st load for every website every time someone accesses it? IIS doesn't reload pools until they're accessed, and then will auto recycle them after certain periods of downtime which can be configured in the pool/site settings This is assuming you're talking IIS rather than external browsing ? etc Steve
  18. But that’s labs or library (Edit to clarify - Think of it like a 121 scheme, that then has shared areas for people to use i.e. not teaching rooms), still doesn’t cover things like teacher rooms, admin staff, servers etc which would need licensing separate to A3 etc if you’re still using old versions on Steve
  19. Not sure how you mean really... if it’s A3 license it’s A3 no matter how you licensed it OVS or CSP etc is just the method of getting the license, not changing what you get from it Unless I misunderstand what you mean? Steve
  20. I mean I'd clarify the above posts a bit further personally, as feel the answer is "it depends": A3 includes desktop installation "of 365 Offline" for all A3 licensed users, if you're still using an older office it's not supported/licensed. If users aren't licensed with A3 (for example, only staff not students), all student devices would still need licensing etc. And even if A3 + 365 is used on desktops, remember this doesn't remove the need for things like CALs from the desktop pack Steve
  21. I mean there's a few items it could be off the top of my head, hopefully will be quick to narrow some of these down Is the port you're using on the same VLAN as the server? If not have you configured up DHCP options etc (e.g. Can another machine build fine on the same port?) If you're using a USB Nic does your Boot image have the drivers for it? Else it might not be able to load them during the boot in PXE If you have multiple NICs (even wireless) on the device, you could try disabling the 2nd one until it's rebuilt in case it's trying to use wrong one Steve
  22. Ah makes sense if that's how your chassis supports it Can you post the current setup of the non-working one? (Like config settings), or have you just enabled it and nothing else? #show spanning-tree or your vendor equiv Steve
  23. Out of curiosity, any reason you aren't just going to use link agg between them? If you're not linking 2-3, there's really no benefit of using your method afaik That way you'll have 2 active links (or a/p depending how you prefer) - In terms of your actual question, can you post the setup of how you've set them? Steve
  24. As mentioned above the deny will take precedence. AppLocker works in reverse to SRP. Why not just remove the block on the application folder, and only give that user the shortcut? Steve
  25. Do you have any logic as to where there are wide vs not? Things like teachers not for projecters, students are etc? If so it's normally easier to just use WMI filter etc If it's literally random, only nice way I found before was using a local script that worked out if it's wide or not, and just copies the right one from a file share Steve
