Intel compustick/NUC PC + FREE Digital Signage for everyone
-
I still have this same issue. Sometimes printers map, sometimes they don't. I've had to enable AD searches so that kids can add printers through the word "add printer" method, which is annoying.
-
Very-PC sorted me out 8 of those on a quote just as i wanted.

Ah I didn't check ICT-Direct! Seems they have something even more ideal in the form of these:http://www.ict-direct.co.uk/monitors/monitor-stands/small-form-factor-all-in-one-stand.html However the mount is perfect but i would need some cases that fit in them now...
-
Unfortunately none fit the bill in terms of having the height and tilt adjustment of the monitors that the novatech ones give you. The latter two links aren't viable unfortunately. (and the quiet PC one is a bit on the ugly side ) The purpose of these is to rehouse some PCs in cases that are going to be teacher PCs in science labs, and in the science labs they have tall standing desks, so i needed something with that easy height and tilt adjustment. I would get NUCs, however as we've already got brand new monitors and PCs that have 2-3 years more life in them in there i don't really have the money to be buying more expensive ones with height and tilt adjustments at the moment or new PCs, and the PC needs to be on the desk due to space (But not enough space on the desk to have a full case). So you can see my issue really, the Novatech ones fit the bill perfectly. Basically mounting the monitor to the case is the only cost effective and space saving option i have, all others involve the reverse mounting the case to the monitor.
-
Does anyone know of any cases like the ones novatech have here: https://www.novatech.co.uk/pc/range/novatechpronai23.html I'm looking for empty ones that can sit on the desk side on and have the monitor mounted to the side. Unfortunately Novatech tell me they can't sell them without the parts and that they're EOL as of next week with no new stock (of presumably a new model) until 2018! Looking everywhere but i can't find anything like it

I do something similar, and I've had no problems at all since i set this up, I have two scripts running one after the other in my SCCM task sequence. First does this: TAKEOWN /F C:\Windows\Web\Screen /R ICACLS C:\Windows\Web\Screen /grant:r Administrators:F /T ICACLS C:\Windows\Web\Screen /setowner Administrators /T DEL /F /Q C:\Windows\Web\Screen\*.* COPY /Y "\\servername\share\Applications\Windows 10 1703 Lock screen settings\Lockscreen1.jpg" "C:\Windows\Web\Screen\img100.jpg" The second does this: rem ------ loosen permissions on a single folder in the path where the cached images are kept takeown /F C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData /grant:r %UserName%:F icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData /grant:r Administrators:F icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData /setowner Administrators rem ------ loosen permissions on the sub-folders where the cached images are kept takeown /F C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18 /R /D Y icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18 /grant:r %UserName%:(OI)(CI)F icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18 /grant:r Administrators:(OI)(CI)F icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18 /grant:r SYSTEM:(OI)(CI)F icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18\* /inheritance:e /T icacls C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18 /setowner Administrators /T del /Q C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData\S-1-5-18\ReadOnly\LockScreen* Not had any issues with that at all since i started imaging with 1703.

Not sure if I'm allowed to put non-IT kit on here but the site team wants to move them on, they're in good condition but have been replaced and it feels a shame to just skip the lot. There's 94 in total, free to any school that wants them. Located in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Will likely be skipped if no one claims them by the end of the summer hols.

Azure Active Directory Basic for Education (New Service Plan)
mrbios replied to Arthur's topic in Cloud Services
So does this remove the need for Azure AD premium from the equation if you wanted to use autopilot and intune? -
This frustrated me for a while, the only one i really wanted to get rid off was the contact support one....to do that i've deleted the "ContactSupport_cw5n1h2txyewy" folder from C:\Windows\SystemApps. It just shows up at the very bottom of the start menu as a broken apps link now, i can't get rid of that though. Don't do the same thing with cortana though or you'll break the start menu. (You could do this to cortana in 1607 and earlier without breaking the start menu, and it would remove all the start menu search functionality, but not in 1703)

Added myself in, I love how popular discord has got. So much nicer than mumble, being able to move between "servers" with ease

You can have squads, duos or solos. If you go solo, you're against all solo people, if you play duo it's only groups of two. If you go squads then its groups of 3 or 4. ....but if you're really brave you can queue squad as a solo, and be put into a group. Never goes well though.

Intune for edu is dirt cheap. Azure AD Premium subscription on the other hand probably isn't...and is required for the auto enrollment it seems. I wonder if there's an Azure AD Premium for edu? Never needed to look into that before. Interesting timing as I'm currently investigating a 1:1 device solution. Though probably a little risky to dive into windows 10S devices, intune for edu and autopilot with it so early in life. Got 12 months though...tempting, maybe microsoft will actually be helpful if I go early adopter (high risk, low reward scenario though...)
-
Think about this from a Windows 10S device scenario. If you deployed 1000 of those to students, you hand the device to the students, they enroll and the settings apply from MDM. It's their answer to ipads and chromebooks.
-
I was wondering if we would see something like this when they announced windows 10S. Looks like they're close to having a very competitive rival to iPads in the classroom. They just need to improve the apps on their store...

If you're using less than 6 cores you should be licensing the essentials kit, its a lot cheaper, and also getting edu discount on top of that. Is that just the yearly maintenance price you're getting? because standard B&R on the essentials kit was £1370 to buy for 6 sockets, let alone yearly maintenance which is probably cheaper again (i've not got that far yet ) Try Phoenix, or as localz says, softcat are also good. EDIT: Ok took me so long to write that reply (while checking the price) you've already covered all that
-
Ah, might have a tough job with that one then. Which software was it? I've not had a problem with it over the course of 3 OS's in 10 years. but let me guess...is it made by pearson?

School announces plan to close early on Fridays to save money
mrbios replied to DJ-1701's topic in General Chat
I'm a bit confused as to where the school are actually saving money in this scenario? Presumably teachers are still paid as normal for those friday afternoons if they're planned to be doing PPA, and that's the biggest expense is it not? I would be absolutely livid if my childrens primary school did the same thing, I'm with the parents on this one. -
All of these are achievable using group policy i think. Certainly when i try and use open file location as a student i get permissions issue pop ups, and C: is removed using group policy from the drives window. Have you set those? The "Remove access to these drives" and "prevent access to these drives" settings in windows components > file explorer of the user settings. Sleep button, i can't quite remember how to do that one, but have you made sure all the power options in the computer settings section of GP are disabled? Also additional tip, if you never use hibernate run the command "powercfg -h off" and it'll remove the hibernation file saving you a few GB of space.

If you create the policy on a windows 10 machine and browse to the links in the policy window it'll give you the real name rather than the displayed name. Frustrating i know! For the most part you can set a delete policy to get rid of the entire Group3 folder. Personally I delete group3 on staff and students, then delete most of group2 for students and leave them for staff.

Depends how you do your profiles, but personally as our students are on a mandatory profile, i've just modified the appdata\local\microsoft\windows\winX folder as part of the profile. They're in 3 groups, just delete what you don't want to show up. Hey presto. You could do the same thing with local and roaming profiles with a GPP to delete them i guess. EDIT: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group3\01a - Windows PowerShell.lnk for example should delete one of the powershell links from the list.

How long does it take for microsoft to activate your InTune for Edu account? Mine has been sat on "We're updating accounts to be able to take advantage of Intune for Education. Please check back again soon." for about a week now...

If we go down the 1:1 device route we could potentially end up with an additional 1000+ devices on our wireless over the current 500 that are on it. Is there any need to worry about the size of the vlan for this? Should I be looking at the possibility of segregating the wireless in some way? Our site is split into 4 main buildings, so i could make a wireless vlan per building similar to how we do it for desktops? Though I'm assuming hand off from one AP to another wouldn't like that? So maybe do it based on users in some way? Do i need to worry about this at all?

894kb on ours. Whether I made it right i don't really know, but it works and apart from a printing issue (doubt that's related) I've got no other problems to mention.

I'm testing out pixl edges capability to link accounts with google now that I've got g suite doing SSO via Azure AD, however I'm hitting a snag with google chrome. If i log a student in, open up pixl edge in internet explorer and click login with google, i enter the email address, watch the redirect do its thing, and it sits on a white screen....if i close that and click "login with google" again away it goes straight into their account. No password required. If i do the same thing in chrome the redirect does its thing then i get a box pop up saying "Sorry we were unable to log you on via google, reason: Framework\Errors\InvalidRequestException - Invalid State" which appears to give me nothing useful via search and nothing useful. If i close that and click Login with google again it just pops up with that error every time. EDIT: Managed to see another error from chrome after the redirect "The requested URL was not found on this server" Anyone else got this working? Still frustrating that it would require each student to pair their accounts themselves, but if they only ever have to login with that horrific username and password pixl gives them once it would be a massive time saver for them and us.
