Can an office 2013 and 2016 KMS key not reside on the same server or something? It won't allow me to install my 2013 KMS key into either the AD based method or KMS method
-
I've got my KMS server installed on a Windows Server 2016 server running the Volume Activation tools. I've added my keys in both the KMS and AD based activation ways for Office 2016 and Server 2016 through my troubleshooting. Windows is being activated correctly for both 7, 10 and server OS's. Office 2016 is being activated successfully. Office 2013 is not, not is project (though i suspect project may need a separate key?) Can anyone confirm for me if the office 2016 KMS key should activate previous versions of office? As it won't allow me to install the Office 2013 key as well.

I'm after some information from those of you that support multiple primaries, ideally as a central secondary supporting primaries. Normally I guess those of you working as a MAT will be doing something like this? We're a LA school looking to start supporting some local primaries. What sort of helpdesk solution do you have in place to enable the primaries to put in tickets, if at all? Any other methods of contact that have been useful for those primaries you can recommend?

Veeam - File restores - What am i doing wrong?
mrbios replied to mrbios's topic in Enterprise Software
In case anyone is interested i got an answer back about this on reddit...apparently it's due to the way veeams cataloging works at the moment. I was told: Which is a bit annoying, but i was also given this little quick fix: -
Strange issue we can't get to the bottom of
mrbios replied to mrbios's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Unplugged the smoothwall, connected a laptop, ran two different speed tests (individually and together) while i had an open call. Not a problem...however the line did only max out at 77down 73up which seemed a bit odd, should make it to 90 odd really on at least one of the speedtests when there's nothing but a pbx + laptop on the line. Going to relay that to my ISP now and see what they say, though I'm pretty sure i did this once in the past. EDIT have asked the ISP to provide me a faster router as a test, if they provide a faster, more powerful router and the issue still remains then I think i can rule the ISPs part in it out and it'll be time to get smoothwall on the case. Interesting memory just came back actually from when i was testing before...It seemed previously as though more devices = more problems. I think running speedtest from one device on my network, such as my PC, when no one else was here didn't cause the problem, but once 6 IT suites were in use hammering the internet, that's when the issue occurred at its worst. -
Strange issue we can't get to the bottom of

We moved ISP in August last year. CPU and memory usage was checked when i was originally looking into the issue and they were fine, it's the RB3011 model if that means much to you? Strange thing is the issue didn't occur between August and March, then one day everyone started complaining of dreadful phone call quality to external calls, and the dodgy voice was only one way. Recipient could hear us fine, but us hearing them was horrendous. I'm not sure what could have changed one day for it to suddenly become bad, but i was calling the ISP asking them what they had changed etc thinking it must have been them, but they hadn't changed anything. Then when i checked if QoS was working, they said it wasn't actually enabled because they only enable it upon request (even though it was a part of the order) so it was working fine even without QoS for a time. We then went through a lot of phone calls and a lot of testing. We changed the auto negotiation of the ports to fixed to see if that helped, set the MTU manually on both my smoothwall and the mikrotik, still the same problems persisted up until i limited the amount of bandwidth we could use via the smoothwall. -

Sorry Steve missed that reply when i posted previously. I did do this test back in Easter when it originally became an issue, i can't for the life of me remember what the outcome was. I'll need to redo that test soon and find out, might try it after schools ended today. It looks like alaw, ulaw, g722 and gsm are the only codecs enabled, and in that order on both the SIP trunk itself and in the Asterisk SIP settings of our PBX. All phones are set to alaw by default too. EDIT: Those codecs and that specific order are what our ISP and SIP Trunk provider specifically told us to set too. -

They've enabled QoS between themselves and the ISP supplied router to prioritise SIP/VoIP packets...is my understanding there anyway. I've got no access to the router to clarify further. I've got QoS enabled internally on my VoIP vlan as well, not that it's really needed, and i've confirmed that was working when i looked deeper into it with wireshark. -

Sorry when i say router I'm talking internet router, Mikrotik Routerboard to be exact. The core switch in this scenario starts at internal network, and when i say high internal bandwidth i mean large amounts of internet traffic....i didn't clarify that very well. -
I'm after some ideas on this one, ISP can't find a solution, we can't find a solution. A horrible work around is in place and I'm potentially about to spend some money to "resolve" the issue. Basically the setup is this: Internal network > Smoothwall > Router > Internet PBX > Router > Internet 100mb leased line External calls don't go out via the smoothwall, the PBX has a direct connection to the router, its own external IP and it's own firewall (FreePBX one) basically to avoid passing SIP traffic through NAT. ISP has enabled QoS on the line. When bandwidth usage is high on the internal network calls degrade to the point of being completely useless. I've enabled bandwidth management on the smoothwall to limit the amount of bandwidth internal traffic can use, i started this at 90, then 80 and now 70. Even at 70 some audio gaps are noticed. If i disconnect the smoothwall from the router, calls are crystal clear. After school or during lunchtime when usage is low, calls are crystal clear. We've also checked MTU settings incase of any mismatch there. Essentially we're losing out on 30mb of our leased line thanks to the issue that appears to be between the smoothwall and the router. My gut instinct is that it's the routers fault, but the ISP disagree. My last straw solution is to get a GEA line installed, run the phones over that primarily and only have them go over the leased line as a failover. Which is a nice solution in itself as it's good to have a backup to something as essential as the phones, however in an ideal world the high SLA leased line would do both and a nice cheap adsl line would be the failover. However if my primary line for SIP is going to be on what should be the backup line, i'd rather a decent SLA and no contention ratios...hence a GEA line. Thoughts? Any suggestions on where the issue could be? I'm all out of ideas.

This is the frustrating thing, the only setting for that is set to 60 days. So it doesn't seem to be that affecting it. EDIT: Oh my god I'm an idiot. Overlapping policy has it in...didn't see that. Set to 14 days. Eurgh. That policy shouldn't even have been linked to that OU... >_<

I've got one user that uses a local profile and has a fairly customised setup, there's a reason i won't go into for not just using a roaming profile in this instance, but in the summer when she hasn't logged on for 3-4 weeks her profile automatically resets/deletes itself. Is there a way of stopping this from happening/extending the time a machine takes to cleanup local profiles? Everything i find relates to roaming profiles and their duration, nothing specific seems to allow me to extend the timespan of a local one.

[1703, cu] Impero + GPO setting, request for someone else to test
mrbios replied to mrbios's topic in Windows 10
Thanks, I opened a support case months back about this but never followed it up after your guys said they'd not seen it before. Ended up getting to summer holidays and being too busy to do a remote session to show someone. Fortunately knowing that it wasn't a common issue led me down the path of trial and error with policies (as it never happened when an admin logged on!) be interesting to see how you get on. -
Ah didn't think of that. Looks like that should work. I'm taking the ILT (or filtering in the XML) from printers and applying the same filters to some registry keys. Looks like it should be ok so long as I'm careful, as both sections have the information i need held within brackets, and i doubt any formatting changes. Thanks
-
Is there a granular way to edit item level targetting without having to use the GUI? I essentially need to take a ton of ILT settings from one place, and apply it to another place, doing this manually would take ages. I know it lets me "Display XML" but it doesn't appear to let me do any form of productive editing via the xml. Any suggestions?

Veeam - File restores - What am i doing wrong?

I've got incremental turned off, and full backup set to run every Friday from 23:00. This then runs each weekend, completes by the Sunday morning with no complaints from Veeam at all. -
Veeam - File restores - What am i doing wrong?
mrbios replied to mrbios's topic in Enterprise Software
In the age of ransomware I'll only be fully content with a solution that has the data offline and in a fireproof safe We actually do have the data in a second building on an old SAN, but i don't feel like things are fully covered with just that scenario. -
I run a weekly files to tape backup job of our entire data, each week totalling about 4.8TB and every week it all seems to go well. However when i do a test restore it pops up and tells me "the following tapes will be needed" highlighting tapes from two other sets......why is this? If I'm doing a full backup of the data as it is one week, and selecting that backup set to restore from, then why would it want me to get a tape from a different set to complete the restore if that tape had nothing to do with that backup set? What am i doing wrong? Basically i want each weekly backup set to be capable of doing a full restore if needed without needing tapes from other sets and i can't currently do that.

[1703, cu] Impero + GPO setting, request for someone else to test
mrbios posted a topic in Windows 10
Bit of a bizarre one, but could someone else running windows 10, on a standard non-admin user, enable the GPO "Disable showing balloon notifications as toasts" which is under the "Start Menu and Taskbar" section. Then see if explorer.exe crashes when you take control of the logged on machine with impero? Hardly a setting to care about but for some reason it was enabled in one of my GPOs and it took me agggggggggggges to work out the issue with impero, and oddly enough it came down to that particular setting. I would just like to see if it's an issue that can be repeated elsewhere or if it happens to be a weird one off. Impero version 6.1.68 but it happened in early versions too. -
Yay! That's some weird timing, only published 2 days ago. I wonder how long we'll have to wait for the feature to be available?
-
Oh of course, I didn't mean to make it sound unique in that aspect. The redeeming function was being able to do everything in the web browser, without the need for an RDP client or app, which appeals to users for the ease of use.
-
You can include certain criteria in the web address to direct to a specific application, or allow it to go direct to the desktop environment if you don't specify one. Ours is setup to direct people to pulsar.exe (sims) so the entire session acts just like a remoteapp scenario.

Personally i found Ericom AccessNow to be perfect, it's based on guacamole (i think?) so can be setup for free as ericom is fairly pricey (i only have a 10 concurrent user license) though setting up guacamole seemed quite time consuming and i gave up . The ease of connecting via any web browser rather than needing users to have any apps or specific desktop needs has made everyone here very happy.

Interesting fix @jtotheb i'll test this out myself soon and report back
