  1. Thank you! I'll put it towards my colleagues London to Paris charity cycle for junior diabetes
  2. In office 365, once you create sharepoint sites and teams they appear on your sharepoint homepage, is it possible (and if so how) to make a site appear by default for all users on the sharepoint homepage? At the moment i see "Frequent sites" then i can pin features links in a little area to the side, but ideally i'd like to be able to control, to some extent, what appears on that first sharepoint screen.
  3. Once you've enabled routing you'll need to add a 0.0.0.0 route to your lightspeed box for the internet. The default gateway setting no longer takes affect once routing is enabled. ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 x.x.x.x (where x.x.x.x is the IP of your lightspeed box) should be what you need. For neatness though (in terms of making the config look tidier) turn off routing, remove the default gateway, turn routing back on otherwise it remains in the config doing nothing.
  4. Not sure is my answer there I'm still testing things at the moment, but it seems fairly granular in terms of what you can do. I've only gone as far as syncing one user on a proof of concept basis so far, but i've got the scripts and connection files ready to be able to sync all students if i decide to go for it. I'm pretty sure you could take it down a notch too, sync one folder within all students home folders or sync them to or from an individual folder within OneDrive (I don't yet know if the process can create the folder within OneDrive for you, i presume it can seeing as it can do everything else) So you could sync say have a folder tree such as: User - Home folder - OneDrive Sync Folder Onedrive - Home Folder - OneDrive Sync folder and sync those two folders together rather than syncing the folders above etc. I'm thinking of syncing a users home folder to a folder within their onedrive, so that if they upload something to the root of their onedrive it doesn't upload, that way it can still be a standalone storage space in that respect, and they only put things in the folder that they want to be synced. We've got FSRM file screens with various file type restrictions on, i think in the layer2 app you can specify file type restrictions, you can also do that in OneDrive. Ideally you'd want them to match i think to avoid sync errors. We also use quotas, so i'll have to have a think about how that's going to work. I think there's going to be a lot of scripting and log output emails needed at least in the first instance to get everything working flawlessly. It's all scripted unfortunately, but highly customisable. With the right programs to export your AD data you can have the connections files built in a matter of minutes, it's just keeping it updated over time as students and staff come and go that will need a bit more work.
  5. I'm currently using this nifty little product: https://www.layer2solutions.com/products/layer2-cloud-connector to do bidirectional syncronisation of student home folders to their one drive accounts. It's not instant, it is a scheduled service, but as we're an Office 365 school with no intent of using Gsuite, it makes chromebooks much more usable, as they now SSO straight into the office 365 portal, and each user can click on onedrive and see the contents of their home folder. Then normally, by the time they get to another computer after using the chromebooks, the data in their onedrive has synced back to their home folder. Obviously there's quite a bit of flexibility with it, you can use it in a whole bunch of other ways, and i've not go round to automating adding new users to it yet but im sure that's possible with the right scripts. It will also largely depend on the state of your on site folder structure as to how well it would achieve syncing everything, but i guess that's the same for any product to achieve this. I'm doing bidirectional, but you can choose to just do the transfer in one direction if you prefer, personally i don't see onsite storage going anywhere any time soon!
  6. Is there any way to set, en-mass or by default, so that teams groups all have the member settings of "Only owners can post messages"? or even turn off the Conversations tab entirely?
  7. Same size school, roughly 1200 pupils. Network manager - Me Full time technician Part time, term time only technician on 20 hours a week, though I'm still arguing that needs to be full time. Very similar numbers of devices to yourself just differing slightly on brands (HP and UBQT for networking, Aerohive for wireless) and office 365 instead of G suite, and VMware instead of Hyper-V. Interesting to see you're based in Dursley, I imagine i can guess which school based off that...funny looking orange building perchance?
  8. I think ours is way over complicated, but too late to change it now. We've got year of birth, first letter first name, first two letters of last name, day of month, and then month of birth. So they appear as 01jbl0212 if it was Joe Bloggs born on 02/12/01 for example. Can safetly say we've never had a duplicate though
  9. Apparently i share a 71% likeness to lukasz Fabianski or Poland.....i don't think i look anything like him tbh
  10. We're looking at setting up sharepoint sites for a few things but we're a bit confused by the different ways to create them, hoping someone here can give us clear instruction. If i go to create a site, i get an option popup asking me if i want to create a "Team site" or a "Communication site". If i create either of those, i can see them in the list of sharepoint sites when i go to admin center > sharepoint admin > preview new sharepoint admin page (i have no idea how i find it in the old sharepoint admin) and when i go to "site settings" with the settings cog while in sharepoint, and then go to "Site hierarchy" i don't see the sites i've made, or any of our communication or teams sites there. However when my tech clicks on create a site, he just gets a name your site box pop up. The sites he creates show up in the site hierarchy in the sharepoint site settings page. However the ones he creates do not show up at all in the sharepoint admin center. What's the deal here? what's the recommended way of creating them and administering them now? we're going to be doing a lot of custom permissions for classes etc. so we want whichever way is going to be the easiest to manage. The sites in question are only going to be used to display a web page of information such as links to documents, youtube videos and other information on a particular unit, so we don't need all the onenote etc bits that teams have with them if that matters.
  11. That feature is done i think, though in its current state the machine you want to broadcast has to be a part of the group that you're broadcasting to. It's my understanding that within the next few weeks it'll be possible to broadcast direct from the console without the teacher PC being a part of a student group for example. (I think it's going to be a chrome addon/extension, but don't quote me on that)
  12. Try emailing [email protected] he was my pre-sales contact. Michael Payne has been really quick to respond to helpdesk tickets when i put them in too (of which i have probably annoyed the hell out of them with about 15 support tickets in 2 months for feature requests and other support requests...not nessecarily a bad sign of the product, just that we want to use some features that aren't released or we're beta testing modules that are near release) and I'm in direct contact with Jon Valentine at the moment as we're resolving one major bug that none of his other sites appear to be experiencing, he's been great about ensuring things are as we expect them to be. More work to be done on it next week with a bespoke build of the client he's made for us to do some debugging. The mark of a good product is how it's dealt with when it goes wrong (ideal world, it would never go wrong though ), and they've really impressed me on their response there.
  13. It's the latest, was only applied 2-3 weeks ago.
  14. In terms of event logs, I get an event ID 27 source ixgbi with the message that network link is disconnected. Along with an event id 10400 source NDIS saying the network interface has begun resetting. I've checked for updated network driver and tried rolling that back. That's the last message i get in system or application logs, then the machine is completely unresponsive from direct input. I've now enabled memory dumps. EDIT: The network adaptor with the above messages is an additional Intel X540-T1 adaptor, so maybe that's faulty. Also i lied, there was a driver update, i've run that, previous date was late 2016. New one is October 17. I'll see if that driver resolves the problem.
  15. I'm no senso employee but i would (for the most part, bar one frustrating issue we're currently trying to resolve) echo their words. Jon is bloody fantastic by the way.
  16. I can't remember when it was, Sometime between January and April there were some windows updates that led to my backup server falling over once every 1-2 days, it'd need a hard reboot to get it to come back again each time. There was then a bios update relating to the spectre/meltdown fix(es) and ever since applying that the server now only falls over once every 1-2 weeks. Has anyone encountered these problems and have a suggested solution? (please don't say rollback windows updates, i killed it doing that previously )
  17. Thank you! Do you want anything for them? I either need 3 or 5, i'll double check tomorrow. I've decided to buy a second 8206zl for redundancy and fill it with identical modules to the one i have live at the moment, and rather than buy anything new, i got refurbished parts on the lot, but the chassis arrived completely empty (bar the service module) with no blank plates on, and i'll only be installing 3.
  18. Hi all, I'm after some of the module bay blank plates, i need about 5 in total. My switch is a HP 8206zl, i think the 5400 is the same size module bays so probably the same thing. If anyone has any they're willing to part with i'd be glad to take them off your hands!
  19. It's SSL inspection of youtube.com unfortunately. Turn that off and it should work.
  20. If you're happy with a refurb one, I've recently heard from ICT Direct that in 3 weeks they're expecting some very nice ones in. Email from them said "T450 - i7 5600U, 12GB RAM, 512GB SSD, 14" Touchscreen, 1920 x 1080 @ £420"
  21. We started using papercut and new photocopiers in November, ever since we keep getting a strange intermittent problem with printing reports from sims. Sometimes they generate and print fine, then our sims admin can go to print another tutor groups reports and it will sit on printing for up to 10 minutes per student. The machine she's using has enough storage space, and is relatively quick, sims is up to date, i can see the generated xml files in appdata\local\temp but "printing student profile for...." will sit for aggggggggggggges. Another sims admin can go and print the same or similar reports, and they'll fly through fine while this one continues to take ages. Anyone got any suggestions on this one? They're printing to a secure print queue with a kyocera driver on papercut 18.1....if any of that even matters. We didn't have this issue when we were using uniflow with our old canon copiers.

    OneDrive Client

Rather than fighting against microsofts poor attempt at getting this right, personally i suggest this method: OneDriveMapper | Liebensraum just runs as a powershell logon script, not many settings you need to change. Creates a mapped drive directly to your one drive, no syncing involved at all, entirely files on demand, just without any fancy UI to it. Sorry if that's not very helpful to your original issue though
  23. I'm revisiting my virtualbox image as they want some things adding to it, but I'm just short of throwing my computer out the window in frustration.... I can't remember any of the commands for this, I've got a Win7VM.vdi and a {32375285728975} etc differencing .vdi file. I go to media manager, change the Win7VM.vdi from immutable to normal, and as soon as i shut it down all changes are lost. Where am i going wrong? I think i had to do it all with vboxmanage commands before, but for the life of me i can't remember what those were EDIT: Nevermind, i just cloned the disk and made a new VM around it, modified that then changed to immutable. Seems a lot quicker and simpler than trying to change my existing one back to normal again.
  24. Can we get that comment stickied to the top of the entire forum? I'd like to mark this flying pigs/blue moon/rocking horse poop type of occasion EDIT: those of you still having issues, are your clients fully up to date?
  25. I don't really get that comment, it's a better OS than 7 was, and apart from this sporadic printing issue (which appears to have gone away for me at the moment) it does everything better than its predecessors. What don't they like? Same! How strange....
