  1. Interesting, just came here to mention having the same problem. Enabled debugging and now it sits at 60-65% instead.
  2. I agree, personally i run it on my DCs, and DNS dynamic updates has a service account. I'd also agree with that, just make sure your virtual environment has a policy on it to not run both DCs on the same host, and that any automatic power on rules is set to power on the DCs first.
  3. It's for security purposes if i remember correctly, personally never seen much risk in it in a school environment though, i think it's a low risk thing anyway, it's just best practice not to put it on a DC. Virtual is fine.
  4. Why do you have one DC doing one set of jobs and one DC doing a different set of jobs? Why don't they both do everything? Makes upgrading easier, as taking one down doesn't affect anything that way. (Technically if one is only doing DHCP and DNS, it's not really a DC)
  5. Absolutely. I needn't really say more 5th gen i5 is no slouch, if that's feeling slow then a hdd to ssd replacement will make it feel like a whole new device. Personally i knew i couldn't afford to replace as many PCs as i wanted to years ago, so i replaced masses of SSDs instead, now we're 100% SSD (bar 1 or 2 older laptops that rarely come back to the office) wouldn't look back!
  6. Ditch HP altogether in my opinion. I did with my last replacement cycle and not regretted it. Using SuperMicro based servers now, they're cheaper cheaper, no requirement for a support agreement for access to drivers/bios updates, no silly proprietary drive caddies, no HP website Check out something like broadberry for prices. My 3 VMware hosts are SuperMicro X10DRW-iT based, dual 10GB ports onboard. I considered leaving VMware a few years ago, but Hyper-V had its own problems, and apart from trying to reuse this old G7 for a lab network, those NC375T network cards are the only thing that have caused me to stumble.
  7. What strange coincidental timing. I've just today been reusing a DL380 G7 for some lab network testing, and forgot about them dropping E5506 cpu support and had to install 6.5 on it.
  8. ah yes i had the demo of smoothwall classroom. At the moment it's very bare bones and lacking in features, but I've sent a list of features i think it needs over to them. It's very much designed to be a teacher tool only, no admin stuff in it at all like we get with impero/senso etc. It will eventually sync classrooms from MIS, rather than creating static computer groups (currently syncs with google classroom only), so it was all dynamic based off school data rather than being setup statically with computer/user groups like we do with most solutions. Looks like they've got a very very basic product at the moment, but seems like a good foundation to build on. I'll be paying close attention to how it develops. If it goes the way i hope then maybe in the future i'll be removing the various teacher used modules from my senso service and putting the money saved from that into paying for this, but depends if they get the price right and the features in place....or if senso beat them to it by introducing MIS synced dynamic groups first, as that and its simplicity is currently its only selling point.
  9. I'm going to view a demo of this on Wednesday, so i'll report back on what it's like. I was looking to jump ship from Smoothwall this year too, however having argued the price down significantly to be the cheapest solution (compared to Sophos and SonicWall), and looking at their upcoming changes, i decided to stick (especially given i have a job list as long as my arm, so not dealing with firewall and filter changes makes thing so much easier on me...)
  10. Not had an issue with this for as long as i've been running windows 10, however i noticed today after someone has presumably clicked something to change the default file type for xml files, that xml files aren't specified within the default associations.xml file i deploy to computers. I did a fresh export from my machine, and noticed it still doesn't include it. How do i set the default for .xml files to the Office XML handler on all PCs?
  11. Interesting, I'll have a play with that and see how i get on. Thanks.
  12. My exams admin seems to get this problem every year, and sims support and capita seem to be absolutely no help in resolving it. When she's seating summer exams she gets the pink hand error saying "Unexpected error in sims examinations organiser module" even description "Invalid variant type conversion" Has anyone else encountered this and know a fix? I'm not sure what specific action it is that causes it, i need to go and take look with her, but i'll update this once i know.
  13. Create new DCs and just promote and demote, move roles across. They're easier than most other servers for creating new and moving across, and while in-place upgrades are possible, they're more of a last resort than a recommendation.
  14. Are you using the scripts from here: https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002135884-Kerberos-Authentication-Scripts ? If that is the route you're using, I'd run through the steps again. It most likely sounds like it's not calling the logon_loop.vbs file or doesn't have access to it.

When i try this method it breaks shared computer login for licensing Office C2R from working, and users start getting prompted to login when i load an office application such as word. (Even though in the top right it says the user is logged in)
  16. Can't help with your main problem, but you could move to SIP from ISDN on a much slower line. Have you looked at the possibility of a normal business brand line for putting your SIP on? Mines on an EoFTTC line for example, which is only a 20mb line, but even a 2mb line would have been fine for what SIP will likely need. Then it's setup to use our leased line in the event of a failure of that line. (Done due to an issue with the original line rather than being designed that way, but you could do the same if your main line is heavily saturated and can't be improved without large costs)
  17. More than it's worth. Look at senso.cloud instead
  18. AH HA! It does exist in my Semi-Annual Channel build. However for some reason the "All Group Calendars" part doesn't show up in the Calendars section. However when i do CTRL+6 to get into folder view, and go right to the bottom i can find it listed. I can also click on the group and then select calendar from the top section and it opens it in a new window.....bloody hell microsoft don't make it easy do you?
  19. Oh poo, I've found why it doesn't work. It's a feature of a much much newer version of office. The only way i could put it on staff PCs would be by installing one of the Monthly Channel builds......didn't realise i had done that on my PC. I'm on 16.0.11126.20192 on my desktop and the calendars section is a bit more "integrated" than previous versions. The Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted) version i've deployed is build 10730.20102 I'll try the latest semi-annual channel build and see if it's a feature of any of those, but i suspect it's going to need an even newer build that's in the monthly channel.
  20. In OWA I can't add any "Other Calendars" with that name, but in Outlook i can add what looks like the same calendar to "All Group Calendars" and "Other Calendars" and they act as two entirely separate calendars, the one in Other Calendars is wrong, and also appears to have tons of "Busy" entries, and no one has access to any of it. So i've no idea where on earth that came from. I think i need to update everyone to Office C2R is they want to use Outlook....2016 doesn't appear to work properly with the functionality I'm trying to use.
  21. Alright now I'm completely confused. When you add the team calendar i created, you're able to add it to "Other calendars" in outlook as well as in "All group calendars" and it looks different in both...for some reason i can't access anything anyone put into it if they've added it to "Other calendars" why are there two ways to add the calendar from the same group and you end up with two entirely different calendars!?
  22. Thank you I thought something wasn't working properly somewhere! I'll lookup the powershell commands and make a note of that for the future.
  23. Ok i think i worked this out. If i create a team site in sharepoint, and add users that way, the group gets automatically added to the users outlook/OWA in the groups section, and they see the calendar in all group calendars. However if i create the group, as i did previously, via teams, it doesn't work......thanks microsoft. GG.

Hmmm, one difference in the sims.ini. Connect.ini was identical. I've copied over the sims.ini from her desktop, still works fine as my test user, will get her to test and see if it works now.

Yep S drive, no drive map clashes, S drive is there for both users as expected, permissions are all good too, she can use NT6 fine in her office and as far as I'm aware elsewhere around school too. She just has this issue when using the RDS server for connecting from home.
