  4. Could'nt find the right place for this - Admins, please move if need be. Right, I've been asked why this site is'nt working for us The Periodic Table of Videos - University of Nottingham - now, we block Youtube here so we are looking at the 'other server' (Right hand side of page under "YouTube blocked?" (this leads to The Periodic Table of Videos - University of Nottingham) So clicking on a chemical element brings up a pop up and the flash video does not load. Looking at the source for the window it shows the file is from rtmp://128.243.45.221 Got Nottingham Uni - now can anybody tell me:- a) If and which port this is trying to stream over (could be a closed port) b) Is anyone else behind the SWGFL having this problem? c) What about other Grids? - are you having this same issue? d) Tried Firefox 3 - same problem. (as well as I.E. 6 sp1 ) e) Tried at home last night - Fine (BT broadband - same workstation config! FF + IE) f) Any ideas? Its nearly christmas....... Thanks
  5. Something that happened to us (Students - dont you love 'em!) On the boot screen does it briefly say something like 'press shift + F10 to configure' ? - (before the PXE boot process) Some of our students saw this and 'reconfigured' the card. took us ages to work that one out. Just a thought..................
  6. Try this: - Cool Solutions: DS Report 1.2 Great stuff.
  7. We have folders that are writable by year group (i.e. only yr 7 can see the yr7 folder etc, etc, with staff having full access to each year group.) and they are automatically deleted every night. (script). I keep a rolling copy for 5 days. Comes in handy for getting those pesky Jaffa Cakes, when the teacher forgot to copy some work out
  8. Nice idea - but we have several apps that use it.
  9. Does anyone know how to disable it?
  10. @localzuk Tried here (Bath) seems to okay - disabling safe search throws up the filtering page.
  11. Chaps, I am currently helping to setup a new server. Anyone else run across this: - When we create a folder - XP sees it as read only. Ive tried the attrib (as advised by Microsoft) but no joy. Any ideas?
  12. Nope, LanSchool works on channels - so you will have a channel for each classroom / area / group that you wish the 'teacher' to monitor / control. Yep, read the pdf that comes with it and you will see what to use. Nope, but I wish SirBendy would produce one for us Great bit of kit our staff love it. Mind you, the students REALLY hate it! -
  13. Netware 6.5 Administrators Handbook ISBN 0-7897-2984-9 Amazon or Novell Forums Or you could always post here.............................
  14. Plexer - Thanks, I got that bit - But I'm more interested on how people manage licenses - does everyone get individual licenses for each machine, or a license server? - what about when you image machines? do you go through it again? Has anyone got any clever ideas - I'm thinking about getting all the licenses emailed to me and keeping them, maybe even a clever little script to import each one to each machine.? (Licenses are MAC based)
  15. Has anybody come across the peice of mastery - and if so, how do you manage licenses? Am I doomed ? Will somebody turn the light back on at the end of the tunnel - please?
  16. Try this in your login script (probably last) C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,UpdatePerUserSystemParameters Hope this helps!
  17. Cant wait.................
  18. Witch - are you in the Bath / Bristol area?
  19. Maybe its a Netware thing...... Ive created a user and given them local admin rights - Then disabled the login. On our workstations it will log the user off (back to a login prompt) - but deny login to the network. Like I've said - Maybe its a Netware thing....................
  20. Christ - Im quite shocked............ Here we have only 2 for everybody................. And a 2 line login script. home and shared. everything else is done wth file/folder permissions.
  21. We used Speak IT Realy helpful. They have lots of ideas and a great selection. We went for the Olympus WS-210S Digital Voice Recorder & Mass Storage Device - plugs in and works like a pen drive. For our better stuff we are going for Olympus WS-311M or one of the DS range, with a good quaility digital microphone - once again works like a pen drive - no software to install. Hope this helps........

    Netware Users

Netware 6.5 sp7 / Zen 7.01 / XP Why would you want to use anything else?
  23. We had that for a while. (I.E 6) Found it was the Temp Internet Files folder was full and not emptying properly. This is what worked for us :- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Cache] "Persistent"=dword:00000000 Empties on Temp Internet Files folder after closing IE.
  24. Use mobile phones.......Okay lets give them the ability to shoot a movie clip or record a voice IN THE CLASSROOM on a device that belongs to them. (Note: BELONGs TO THEM) Then maybe - after the horse has long since bolted, you will see how many clips will appear on Youtube and such like. (Note: Video sharing site) (Think : Do you really believe they will post a great lesson for everyone to share? or do you think they will post movies of said teacher losing their rag?) (Think: Do you really think they will post nice photos of their work? Or a photo of Miss so and so's Cleavege? Legs?) Proof - Well that was at my last school when they had a spate of boys going into the girls toilets and taking a quick shot over the top of the cubicle and then Bluetoothing it around the school. Mobile Phones....... great idea until its your lesson thats been posted / or photos of you. And how long is it going to be before the clever photoshop kid gets hold of the photos, and creates something.........?
