Blimey..... I have 40 staff over 45GB (one is over 120Gb) .... and ALL our Photography students from Yr11 upwards are around the 80GB mark each.......

Ladies / Gents.... apologies for dragging up an old thread................... Anybody currently running this software ? Only I've been asked to look at it................

@kennysarmy ...... Looked at this years ago. We have our own internal ntp server (time taken from ntp.swgfl.org.uk) which is broadcast to our internal LAN. We have never had a problem, except when a workstations time is too far out i.e. by 7-10 years (bios battery gone, and they reset). All of our Apple devices pick up the time and time zone automatically. I remember we had to ensure that our time was not broadcast outside of our LAN, but apart from that...... Blimey, it was sooooo long ago........

Oldest core2Duo, 4gb RAM 128SSD - Cleveo L390T's. Newest i5, 16Gb Ram 128 SSD (Photography & D&T) rest are i3 4Gb RAM 128 SSD. This year the i3's will go up to 16 Gb RAM - in the heavier areas, rest going up to 8Gb. We purchase with RAM upgrades in mind - and all our offices get ex curriculum machines..... After 7/8 years they are used for things like digi signage, laser cutters, development 'servers', student demo's. Anything we can use them for. A flavour of Linux is your friend. We keep everything for spares / projects, etc. Monitors ? Neovo glass fronts. We just keep replacing the inverter boards / power supplies when needed...... Had ours for over 10 years - awesome. The ONLY office that gets new machines is our finance team - they pay my wages AND fight for my budget each year

A log time ago we had a list of words that we needed to slip into our conversations. I'm sure we got these off the web somewhere...... I also have a feeling there were three columns and had to make a sentence with a word from each column......... ? Anyone got anything like this ? - I'm just looking to brighten up the day..... Good lord... had this argument a few weeks ago about 'pre' printing letter heads. It was only when I pointed out to them it was costing twice as much did they go down the Template route.................

We found it was the Teacher in the room in the previous lesson setting the screens to how they wanted - the settings carried over to the next user.

We've got over 100 here. All hooked on the back of 23" glass fronted Neovo monitors. Art, D&T, Sen & Sport Science. We love 'em. We do buy different power supplies - but we keep the old for spares later on in their life cycle. On the expensive side to buy, but they are low power which again over the TCO is a win. We also but 0.3mtr USB extensions so the students are not plugging directly into the NUC. If you would like a photo of what they look like on the desk - shout. They look very neat and give max space on the desk.

Autoit - but I suppose you could use anything that you could turn into an exe.....

We've replaced the exe with one of our own scripts (turned exe- password protected of course). that way we dont have to login to get certain info / webbrowser / ipaddress /etc.

All, Seems that even though our staff are set as Mono users only in PaperCut, if they go into the driver properties of the photocopier and change from auto to colour (see piccy) They can print in colour - they do get billed for a colour print as well - but they are only in the Mono group & cannot colour copy standing at the machine.... Any ideas? or What am I missing? Thanks in advance...........

We drop a couple of cheap 2TB drives in old workstations, install ubuntu server with samba. Raid the 2TB drives. We create iso's of everything and drop them on the server. Using Daemon tools and a hta, our staff pick what they want and a script mounts the iso ..... simple. up to about 15TB of media so far.....When a drive goes we just pop anther drive in, rebuild the array overnight and robert is your fathers brother. Easy......and cheap.

@MGSTech & @synaesthesia Sorry for not getting back sooner - went home ill and have just got round to 'tinternet. The ONLY answer I could give is to direct them to our Child Protection Officer. Internet filtering is not within my remit here at the school - just like uniform policy, behavior policy, H&S, Staff Code of Conduct, etc, etc. In my capacity I have advised, re-advised, strongly recommended (in writing) - but alas, it is viewed that is is down to the SMT & the CPO to set the policy and the 'Professional in the Classroom' to enforce. Possibly a strange idea - BUT that is how it is here.
