We are trying to supervise a bunch of iPads using Apple Configurator (1.5), however we keep having devices randomly fail to restore/refresh. It appears as AC is trying to refresh a device, it gets to the 'Checking Supervision' stage and then fails with the 'Unable to send ProceedWithKeybagMigration command to device' error message. I've Googled this and I'm unable to find anything of help. After a device fails with this error message, if you attempt to refresh it again it may well complete successfully. I'm wondering if anyone here has come across this error and how/if you resolved it. Cheers

It's been widely reported that Microsoft are still having to pay Apple the 30% cut on the Office Apps.

I absolutely agree with you and this. I feel, for us, it would have perhaps been more palatable if there was also an option to buy each app for say up to £15-20 each from the AppStore which would allow us to just pump them out as we would with any paid App. But I guess this doesn't fit with Microsoft's cloud obsession.

I've always found the key to getting screens nice and clean while being streak and smear free is to clean the screen while it's cold/cool. Flash Wipes are excellent at removing the grime, then a quick wipe over with a dry microfibre cloth and you have a nice clean smear free display.

This is my main concern with Meraki. Get people hooked, lock them in, then start charging for it. The comparison to Log Me In Free is a good one to make, because I fear this is what could happen here. I guess people who have gone down the Meraki route, if they start charging, will evaluate other MDM products then, which will probably wind up being cheaper than any Cisco owned solution, so that may play a part in any future business model Cisco have.

Hi All I'm wondering if any of you have any experience of using Microsoft Intune as an MDM solution for iPad management? If you have or do use it, what are your thoughts on it? We are considering trailing it (along with Meraki's offering). Cheers! :-)

Yes, I neglected to mention that we had also stopped IE asking whether it was the default browser. The real problem were links in Word files and PDFs - they always opened in IE no matter that the GPO had set Chrome as default.

Setting that setting so it is the default browser has never worked for us. When users click on web links in documents, or desktop shortcuts for example, it will always open in IE, despite Chrome being the default. It's almost as if it needs setting somewhere else in the operating system GPO's.

I have AirPlayer that streams content without much issue from my Plex and WMP DNLA servers. The app was a couple of quid, and doesn't seem to have any issues with codecs or playback. https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/airplayer/id369713694

We're doing pretty much the same thing. It can be a bit of a faff at times, but mostly it works pretty well.

I'm not sure what the point is to be honest - everyone who's anyone will want a .com or .co.uk anyway.

I got this to work, I had to use the GPP Preference Items tool. Enable and Disable Settings in a Preference Item Edit: Just re-read your original post. I had the same problem, but the preference item setting is definitely what made it work.

I think it's possible to turn off auto refresh in AC if this becomes an issue or irritation. I think I'd prefer it refresh the settings every time they are reconnected, however.

We share a lot of these woes. I think we are starting to realise we need an MDM solution of some kind, as currently it is far too easy for the students to do what they please with them (as you allude to above). Apple Configurator is basically not up to the job for a school (and probably college) environment. I'm sure it's fine in enterprise business, where 90% of users may not be as hostile as students with the intentions of reseting things, setting pins, and whatnot 'just because they can'. Edit to add: From what I read the Profile Manager included with OSX server is pretty good and makes up for a lot of AC shortcomings, but is a pig to set up. I think this is something we are going to look into over the coming weeks.

Cheers for your input guys. Whilst checking our GPO, somehow "Grant the user exclusive rights to the documents folder" had become re-enabled. This seems to cause a whole heap of issues with documents folder redirection. Unchecking this has solved the issue. Just to answer your feedback above, for the sake of Google and anyone else who may come across this thread, those were fine, and we didn't have any XP redirections settings still enabled. Thanks for your inputs - it's much appreciated.

Hi Guys Just want to pick your brains on this one. Three of us have installed Win 8.1 Enterprise on our machines to test various things out, however our redirected documents folder is failing to redirect. Previously we had Win 8 Enterprise on and it worked fine, no GPO changes have been made since. The event log says... Event ID: 1112 "The Group Policy Client Side Extension Folder Redirection was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system start up or user log on. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before the next start up or log on for this user, and this may result in slow start up and boot performance." Then just above... Event ID: 1085 "Windows failed to apply the Folder Redirection settings. Folder Redirection settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link." I have tried (numerous times!) running gpupdate /force from an elevated command prompt, then logging off and back on and it's not applying the redirections. This is what the general advice to solve this issue seems to be. I am a bit of a loss as to why it's not working, it worked fine in Windows 8. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

He's a legend. He used to do the 5Live radio commentary, but moved to Sky along with Brundle and co. Crofty should have been commentating on TV far sooner, the mind boggles why the BBC didn't pair him up with Brundle...

Hi Guys Thought I'd just pick your brains. We are looking for a box or bag designed to carry iPad's about without them getting smashed and trashed. The box is only needed for the staff/students to carry the iPad's between classrooms and the iPad charging trolley. Does anyone have any recommendations? I have come across these TheCaseProject: Multi IPAD cases but they look on the expensive side and a little overkill as we don't need the charging feature, though the foam inserts do look like the kind of thing I am looking for. Alternatively, does anyone have any ideas on how easy it is to get custom foam inserts made for a regular plastic storage tub? I'd be curios to see how you've gone about solving this problem in your establishments, too. Cheers for any input.

The full apps are brilliant, as mentioned above the alerts are great fun... never miss the 787 or A380 (or whatever again). The additional in-app purchases are good too. Well worth £3-4.

Have you considered a (cheapish) weather station? You'd probably have no need for the external part, but the internal units are often very capable and accurate, with software that can do alerts. We've recently settled with one of these for temperature monitoring of a remote hub room (however it's temperature only, not humidity): http://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-thermometer-probe-temperature-logger/dp/B004JJ0U26/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1375866075&sr=8-2&keywords=usb+temperature+sensor The software it comes with isn't the greatest, however we've hooked it up to an old netbook, and with a PowerShell script that parses the CSV it updates every minute, sends us an email alert if the temperature exceeds a predefined value. It works very well, it actually saved us some trouble just a few weeks ago in the hot weather when the AC packed up in that room. Maybe not a direct answer to your question, but thought I'd throw it in there.

Awesome, thanks for your recommendations. I've just had a look at the Dunlopillio, they certainly aren't cheap but do get fantastic reviews. I think I'll try one of those. I used to have a memory foam one, I really weren't so impressed with it, plus I found it got really warm. In the end I donated it to the cat, who seemed to like it!

A bit of a random one... can anyone recommend me any decent pillows (large, plump and firm), that are anti-allergy? I'm fed up of the ones I have at the moment (some £25ish Silentnight ones). Thanks for any suggestions.
