Gmail using Exchange on Iphone / Ipad
InterwebsGuy replied to InterwebsGuy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks for the reply. Ios is up to date on both devices, so there is no issue there for sure. It does appear to be archiving things, and the message does appear in 'All Mail' with the Label 'Inbox'. It just seems to differ from what the Mail App says on the Apple devices when using Exchange. I might remove both accounts from my phone and re-add them, in case it has somehow gotten corrupt. This though would just seem a little strange as it has affected both devices at roughly the same time. -
Gmail using Exchange on Iphone / Ipad

Sorry, it is Google Mail (both Apps and regular) but it is being accessed through Google's Exchange Service (m.google.com). Basically, you select the Exchange option when adding a new mailbox on an iOS device rather than Gmail. For context: http://support.google.com/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740 -
Gmail using Exchange on Iphone / Ipad
InterwebsGuy replied to InterwebsGuy's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I am guessing it's just me then?? There is definitely something odd going on. I read and replied to an email this morning (on a PC, not a mobile device) and it archived the message when I hit send rather than just leaving it as unread in the inbox. Googeling (ironically) doesn't seem to bring anything up, other than suggestions it is a IMAP or POP issue. -
Hi guys I am just wondering if anyone here is having an issue I have been having for the last week or so with Gmail via Exchange on the iPhone/pad that is driving me insane. The long and short of it is, every time I read an email on my phone or iPad from Gmail (both regular and apps flavor) the email is then disappearing when viewing the inbox in a normal browser on a computer. By viewing 'All Mail' in Gmail, the message is there, and is still 'labelled' with Inbox yet it doesn't appear there. It is like it is automatically archiving the message when you read it on the iPhone/iPad but not archiving it properly (not that I want it to be archived!). It is also doing something similar when deleting messages from the iOS client. This never used to happen, it just started happening in the last week or so and it is driving me nuts. I am missing emails, because for example, I read it on my phone during the evening, and the next day at work, I forgot it was there because it has disappeared. I am sure it is something Google have done, as it effects both my devices, had it been just one, I would have thought it was me. I am just curious if any of you are also experiencing this?

Google Apps - Free for Education - Limited to 10 Users?
InterwebsGuy replied to RichCowell's topic in How do you do....it?
Interesting, that is not what I had heard.. but that kind of explains why I cannot find the sign up page! Cheers & Beers! -
Google Apps - Free for Education - Limited to 10 Users?
InterwebsGuy replied to RichCowell's topic in How do you do....it?
Slightly OT with this.. but is it just me that can't work out how to sign up to Office365 for Education? I can only see how to sign up to Live@edu. I am assuming they have different enrolments/joining pages? Unless you sign up to Live@edu and wait for your account to be migrated to Office365 Edu? I'm fed up with Google Apps, hence why I ask. -
Creating our own Video Streeming Internal Server
InterwebsGuy replied to BKGarry's topic in Web Development
We considered doing something like this; we looked into using Microsoft Expression Encoder and co to stream video clips. IRC it uses IIS to do so. We didn't go down that route in the end though, maybe it is something we'll investigate again in the future. Also, if you have Google Apps, you get Google Video as part of the package, though it is a bit naff. -

Photoshop CS6, How does it run?
InterwebsGuy replied to jonnykewell1's topic in Educational Software
I had Indesign and Illustartor (both CS6) open together the other day and it was hogging RAM, I kept maxing out the 4GB in my box. Ordered some more it was that irritating! I came from CS3 and 4, so I couldn't say how much different it was to CS5. Very nice package though, well worth the money to upgrade. -
Anyone any idea how to embed the olympic torch relay stream?
InterwebsGuy replied to reggiep's topic in General Chat
It won't load on Xibo for me either, it has just crashed the client on the machine. I embeded it in a simple web page and included that too. I don't know if it's not working because there doesn't seem to be any live feed at the moment? But anyway.. I've concluded life is too short for this - it was requested here if we could - but at the end of the day.. .. is pretty much spot on! -

Seems to work for me - apart from there is no picture available on the feed at the moment. I can't believe I didn't try the param in that bit! -
It won't be rocket science and won't work much differently to any of these CMS plug-ins that have been linked above. It will be mealy a little JavaScript to trigger some layers and styling with the message at the top. If the user opts out (or whatever) a Cookie will be set with their preference. The JS will check for the presence of this Cookie on each request and act as required. If there is no Cookie, the consent pop up will appear. As Marci alludes to above, the JavaScript will carry out further action, by including if consent has been granted, any code that is likely to set tracking Cookies - such as Analytics's, Ads, Social Sharing etc. I haven't had a good nosey at their solution, but all these things are likely to work the same. If you know what sets a Cookie that needs consent on your website, these things are quite easy to implement. You will probably need some understanding of JavaScript to implement these checks/plug-ins, however.

IRC The Web Developer toolbar shows you. I just use Chrome mostly these days and hit F12.

Anyone any idea how to embed the olympic torch relay stream?
InterwebsGuy replied to reggiep's topic in General Chat
I am about to conclude that this isn't possible. BBC's Embedded Media Player doesn't seem to have any auto play options, and adding the video source to your own player such as JW Player doesn't work - I guess because it's expecting the request to come from their EMP! Edit: I've tried opening the source (http://www.bbc.co.uk/emp/releases/worldwide/revisions/749603_749269_749444_3/749603_749269_749444_3_emp.swf) in quite a few media players and just get the content not working message. Seems it can't be done. I will be interested if anyone else gets it working as this will bug me! -

I wondered about changing it to and trying that. A lot of the params look like standard ones so you could strike it lucky. Seeing as it barely works for us in a timely fashion, I haven't attempted to try it! -

It doesn't seem to like our connection, which is odd as it works fine when initiated from the Beeb's page. Did you get it to autoplay? -

It seems to work for me.. but.. it takes about 5 minutes to load the SWF! Seems odd seeing as it does it on both our 100mb connection and 8mb connection. I haven't managed to get it to autoplay, though. -

Can you get it to show up and play manually using this embed code? For me it just says content not available. -

Have you tried inserting: I see that is what they use to make the news channel autoplay - hopefully it will be the same player! -
I totally agree, no matter what way it is implemented it's ugly. A server side solution may only be the reliable way to comply though. And you have to hope they have allowed their browser to set Cookies. There are so many caveats to implementing this requirement it's mad. It's clearly something that has been dreamt up without much technical insight.
