Stop them adding restrictions for sure, but I've actually found it's quite useful to have the Erase and Reset Settings option there. When they inevitably get their nickers in a twist and won't refresh in the cart, going into settings and resetting them solves the issue. Having said that, now Configurator erases the device properly on each refresh hopefully this is an issue of the past!

I wish they would add something in so we can push PDFs into iBooks. iBooks could be a really useful App if they did that.

Microsoft Remote Desktop App for IOS 8.1.3 Broken
InterwebsGuy replied to chrisjako's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We've also got the same problem - it was almost certainly the update that broke it. -
Moodle - Mapping AD groups to course enrollments
InterwebsGuy replied to chrisjako's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
We've done this with Moodle. All we did was take guest rights off the course and enroll all staff in it. As I said, for us, it's just easier to export a CSV from AD or SIMS and update the few courses we have like this manually a few times a year. It takes just a few moments to put together a CSV in Excel. -

Just to add, I suppose this could be made to work for you: https://docs.moodle.org/27/en/LDAP_enrolment It would seem to involve modifying AD accounts though. -
Moodle - Mapping AD groups to course enrollments
InterwebsGuy replied to chrisjako's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
There seems to be no way to do it without doing a bit of scripting and using the enrollment plugins. I've never done it myself like this, as the few courses we have that need this, I just do with a CSV semi regularly that I generate from AD. https://docs.moodle.org/27/en/Enrolment_plugins -
Xibo - Powerpoint keeps opening but only want it to play
InterwebsGuy replied to leewakelam's topic in Windows
I was just about to mention this myself. We had the issue with PowerPoint doing this, so I just started converting them to videos. Not looked back once since, it's a much better experience! -
Perhaps I am misunderstanding your OP - but the way I've always understood it, and from what I am reading on the Reddit thread, is that it is the Roku and it's media player app that supports DLNA (which it does) and not the Plex client (I've never come across it in the Plex client). If you have a Plex Media Server - that does output a DLNA feed as well as the Plex stuff for the Plex clients. That DLNA feed works fairly well, as it's what I used to use prior to the Roku. If you can somehow install the PMS on your NAS, I'd recommend it. As long as your media is named correctly and stored in a sensible folder structure, it just sees it all (well, 99% of stuff) and will transcode anything your client cannot play. I've seriously come across nothing Plex and Roku cannot play, with most things just being streamed to the Roku without being transcoded.

I've never tried to use the Plex client to do that in this way. I have Plex server installed on my N54L and the client on the Roku's just connects to that. If I want to do DLNA streaming, I'd use the Roku media player as you have already alluded to. Perhaps the Plex client can do it too, I have never tried, I'll have a look when at home.

I have two Roku 3's. Wonderful little boxes and use very little power. I have had no issues with DLNA streaming to them - or 'casting' from iOS devices with their App - though the majority of my steaming is done via Plex to them. I've used Netflix and all the catch up TV apps on them, and they have all been a positive experience. I really love my Roku's, money well spent I feel.

Google apps for Education, how to archive old accounts ?
InterwebsGuy replied to caffrey's topic in Cloud Services
I wish there was a better way of sorting and filtering the accounts in the Management Console, for example, sorting by account name/ID. I'm sure you can do it with the API, but some things should just be simpler by not having to write a script. -
We just display the local Weather Underground page for our area. As our displays are 1080, it displays fairly well and is constantly up to date. Leeds, United Kingdom Forecast | Weather Underground I do wish there was a better way, with larger text and bigger graphics that are more orientated around digital signage. I've been saying I'll look into using one of the providers API's to make a custom display for our screens, but I've yet to have time to do this. In the old days, we used to have a Davis weather station on the roof - we used to display real time weather data for our site from that on our screens. That was really cool, it was a shame when it was destroyed - by the wind, somewhat ironically!

I like to put together slideshows in something like Movie Maker, Premier, that kind of thing, then export it out as an MP4 and then insert the video into a layout. It works well for us, it's just a bit of a pain when you need to remove or add another image to a slideshow.

Seems so: https://volume.itunes.apple.com/gb/app/filebrowser-access-files-on/id364738545?mt=8&term=file%20browser&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 (£1.99 each if buying 20+ licences). There does appear to be a free one, though: https://volume.itunes.apple.com/gb/app/filebrowserlite/id335493278?mt=8&term=file%20browser&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 I'm not sure if it's the same business one that Marci linked to however.

We use: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/webdav-navigator/id382551345?mt=8 Not the best, I'm sure, but it does the job. Sorry, I forgot to add, you will need a Webserver running a WebDav instance for this app.

I'm thinking that may be the only option. Google Maps does show bus stops by the club, but finding what buses stop at those stops seems to be a challenge! -

I don't suppose anyone knows what bus to take from Preston train station to get the Grasshoppers? I was looking at that yesterday and I just cannot work it out! -
Just to add to this thread, we wiped the Mbp that hosts our AC instance, and started over again with everything. All iPads were unsupervised before changing the Mbp's hard disk, and all iPads fully reset for good measure before starting a fresh with it all. This error message still randomly pops up on different devices, though I would say it seems less frequent than before. I really cannot fathom why this is happening, to the point I'm considering trying to open some kind of support call with Apple about it now.

Yes, we are. We do it the way you describe, as standard practice, supervise the devices first, then restore a backup afterwards. Each time the iPads go back into their trolley, AC resets and restores the backup to them - this tends to be when this error message randomly pops up. Hitting the refresh button on AC will successfully restore the backup to the device that just had the error, which to me, is the strange part.

This was one of the first things we tried, followed by unsupervising the iPad then erasing all content and reseting the iPad (just for good measure). Sadly it doesn't solve it.
