  1. Oh I wasn't celebrating, on the contrary I think that dropping the requirement wouldn't be a smart move. From everything I've seen and heard, to actually be compliant with GDPR takes an expert and is way beyond what most school staff will be able to do without the correct training. Just chatting to some of the, qualified, LA DPOs about their jobs, shows me that this is not a simple role. I fear that schools could see this (understandably) as a cheap way of doing it and fall foul of the lack of expertise. Yeah, aware of that, but this is not what the LA was talking about. We were informed by a LA DPO who is following the progress of the bill through Parliament, that an actual recommendation has been made, but I can't find any evidence of this.
  2. I was 38 yesterday Still feeling the giant curry I ate last night :S
  3. Just spoken to ICO and they are aware of this request and are investigating. Their advice is to reply to email address provided stating that we need a valid address to correspond with (and see if we get a response) and that we will not be following the link in the email due to security concerns. HTH
  4. So just looking at the ICO guidance on what a valid request is and it must: The request has no such thing as far as I can see, apart from a noreply@ address and a link to submit your responses. So, if I can't get a response from that email, what do you do as its not a valid request? I think its reasonable not to follow unknown links in emails from people unknown to the school?
  5. So we have had this FoI request now and are preparing to answer it. Just checking. A lot of the info is already in the public domain so is is acceptable to say something like "Number of pupils on roll: information available on LA website here: http://xxx" "Number of male teachers: available from school website here: http://xxx" etc
  6. Went to a LA meeting last night and was told that The Lords had recommended that schools be exempt from the DPO requirement. Anyone got any more info on that?
  7. Owned it? Or was the Registrar? Not being pedantic but there is a big difference. Schools own their own .sch.uk address, RM wouldn't own such an address
  8. Mmm I get that, but there a lot of options so pricing would be tricky to put up. Get in touch with them and they can show you the pricing options to build the spec you want.
  9. Our SLT get @VeryPC Thinbooks with a fancy school logo decal on them. Amazing how much quicker they run when they look smart https://very-pc.co.uk/products/laptop/thinbook
  10. Your school owns its .sch.uk name How about putting your domain into nominets lookup tool: https://www.nominet.uk/whois/ Anyway, with 365 domain verification you just have to add a DNS record, aren't you able to do this?
  11. We are a large primary school with 70 mb FTTC from Wave9. Obviously I don't know you requirements but in general I seem to find that FTTC is probably adequate for a primary at the moment (unless you have some serious bandwidth requirements). In terms of security, we have the Sophos UTM (also through Wave9) and its perfect. Good price, easy to manage and (without wishing to sound like an advert here) great backup from Wave9 support.
  12. Anything in the logs when you restart the service? Tried restarting the server?
  13. If someone can successfully explain to my kids that they need to stay in bed an extra hour then you have my eternal gratitude!
  14. sorry I get it now :s So, it appears that you searched the word 'failed' but as above, it would be better to search the word 'error' to find every line with an error code.
  15. Search failed? Do you mean that it didn't find the word 'error'? Maybe there are no errors?
  16. A download for CC3? No. Ahh CC3... memories [emoji3]
  17. @mavhc Thanks, that made me laugh like an idiot
  18. I usually shut the hosts down, install updates manually and reboot. Then the host starts its VMs. Can't say i know if it makes a difference, just kinda seems the right thing to do? [emoji3]
  19. Yeah... I have been going down the CB route but actually keeping up with the updates and whatnot... I may start looking at LTSB
  20. What makes more sense to me would be to have a barebones business/education version with the bloat disabled and you enable the features you want rather than the opposite way round.
  21. Or rather, being a little pedantic
  22. No sign. However the main server cab is located in our 'strong room' that also has the safe in it. Pretty obvious there something in there due to the serious looking door. The walls are typically robust Victorian affairs that took two guys with sledgehammers a day to make a hole in elsewhere in the school ("we'll have that done by break time" lol ) Anyone gets through that before being detected deserves whatever they can get their hands on!
  23. To be honest I still don't use it on servers, I like to patch manually and test each server. But then I don't have many to patch
  24. If that doesn't fix it I think it worth checking that the client push account has valid credentials
  25. Have you read my thread here: Successfully deploying Start Menus in Windows 10 v1703 /showthread.php?t=187278
