I've encountered this too, though not as bad. We purchased 24 SEN laptops, with 12x being allocated to students as 1-1 devices and the other 12 kept in the office for exam seasons, where they're set up as permenant laptops in the exam room, specifically for those students. Though I do know that we have more than 12x students using those laptops across the year groups taking exams, who I don't believe is allocated a laptop. Like you, our perspective is that unless they've been assigned a 1-1 laptop by the SENDCO department, they shouldn't be using them in exams. Our exam officer has the same view, however, we've both been overruled by SENDCO, overseen by a member of SLT (who is the one making these decisions). In the end, we gave up fighting it, because we're just ignored. We're just supplying laptops when our exams officer requests them.

I've just compared your settings to our settings and they look the same. The only difference is that we have some exceptions that we've added over the years, such as colleges, educational sites we have subscriptions for (for password reset links), etc.

We've been with Cunninghams for years. In fact, all schools I've worked in have been Cunninghams schools. However, they are pretty terrible and expensive. I want to move to someone like IRIS, who now own Biostore. Their year 1 outlay was more expensive than renewing with Cunninghams (due to required purchasing of new hardware), but it would have become cheaper after just three years and continued savings thereafter. I've submitted the proposal twice and both times I never had a response, so I gave up.

I used some isopropyl alcahol on a worn roller today (advice from a printer technician) and it helped on a printer that wasn't pulling the paper.

Unfortunately it's not something I'm well versed in. It was originally set up almost 7 years ago and has been a case of it's not broken, don't fix it. My priority at the moment is; Office 365 SMTP directly. If that doesn't work, then try via our SMTP relay. If that doesn't work, then try via enter-your-domain-with-hyphens-instead-of-dots.mail.protection.outlook.com. Services like our HP ILO and MSA simply won't work with any of them, because we require authentication to be able to communicate via O365, which the ILO and MSA doesn't support.

I was thinking about internal network monitoring only last week. I think Spiceworks once had a free network monitor tool that used SNMP to get stats of compatible equipment, with a live/graph view and could send email alerts. But that was quite a number of years ago ago and I think they discontinued it. I don't know of any other free ones, so I'm interested to see what's recommended. IMC used to be free many years ago for smaller sites, though I believe it's now a paid solution?

We're using an on-site SMTP relay for it. I don't think I could get it working via Office 365's SMTP. I think the only other way would be via enter-your-domain-with-hyphens-instead-of-dots.mail.protection.outlook.com using port 25.

I don't know if this is a bug or not. If a student leaves a completed ExamWritePad file open after their device, if the document is opened on another machine at the same time, does it show a blank document? This is something that I've encountered for at least a couple of years, spanning multiple versions. At the end of an exam, we are asked by the invigilators to print the work for the student, as they can't do it themselves. We use ExamWritePad from a shared drive (for easiness to managed/update), so I open the saved exam document from the exam account's home folder on my own machine (using the same ExamWritePad the students use). However, when I open the document, it's blank. I can see that the file is ?KB in size, so there is information in there. I have to resort to either going through the auto save backup files (and usually the latest ~10 copies are also blank), or I have to re-save it with a new file name, where I can then open the document on my machine to print. I'll try and replicate it myself today, but I may not get chance.

This is a problem I've come across using Microsoft support. They don't always take all the information in. Not only are you using the enterprise license, you also can't use DBL because you're on an OVS-ES agreement.

We've recently been converting our standard boys/girls toilets into open plan unisex floor to ceiling toilet cubicals. We don't have cameras placed inside or looking directly in, but we do have some placed that are in the corridor nearby or looking in that direction. The toilets are also either adjoining or opposite staff offices, which have either one-way windows in the joining wall, or in the door looking directly down the length of the toilets.

I haven't read the source, so I was going in blind. Yeah, his character was quite unpleasant and I guess it was to show how the working conditions can affect a person. I also believe the character of his mother is nothing like his actual mother, and that Shruti wasn't a real person, but I guess a representation of that side of the NHS.

Watched This Is Going To Hurt over the weekend. While it had some comedic moments, it also has some difficult moments. It certainly made me think about the NHS. I'm glad I watched it. Started Killing Eve on Saturday. I can tell it's not the same as previous series, but I still enjoyed episode 1. I also started the final series Peaky Blinders, binging episode 1 & 2 last night. Enjoying it so far.

I'm not sure how it's working for you! I try it every now and again and we get hit (both staff and students) by the license limit after some time. I had confirmation as recent as last month from both Microsoft's VLSC team and our reseller that we can only use Office Professional Plus 2019/2021 (LTSC), as M365 will hit the license limit due to DBL only being available for EES customers.

Which type of license are you on? OVS-ES or EES? If you're on OVS-ES, then no matter how much you try, shared activation (or device based licensing) will not work and you'll hit the license limit of 5 activations per user. It's limited to EES customers only.

For LAC related equipment, we've always treated them as non-school devices, so they aren't enrolled into our MDM or imaged like a regular machine. Instead, we receive the device from the supplier and hand it as is to the student. We'll aid them in installing Office and other software and technical issues that arise while they're on roll, but other than that, it's their device through and through.

For a while, I've been using SCCM to in-place upgrade Windows 10 on desktops and it's always worked well. I've never used SCCM to in-place upgrade the servers though, they were previously done via mounting the ISO and upgrading that way (which I did for the upgrades from 2012 > 2016 and 2016 > 2019). I suspect that an in-place upgrade via SCCM would work fine, since they all have the SCCM client installed...I'm just wondering about the SCCM server itself. Is it possible to in-place upgrade the server itself? I just don't know what would happen when it comes to initialising the client, which I undertsand usually involves communicating with the SCCM server...but it can't if it's not yet online. Does that make sense? I hope so!

Death on the Nile - 6/10 Similar to the first film, Murder on the Orient Express, it was a fun film to watch, though with how good Knives Out was, it felt a little lacking. There's a back story to Poirot and it's easy to foget that Armie Hammer is in the film, since he's not in any of the posters or trailers (he's now problematic, accused of abuse).

It's not that it's been removed completely, they've created a new policy to replace the old one. For Incognito specifically, the new policy item is called "Incognito mode availability". Enable that policy and set it to "Incognito mode disabled". They've done the same with the policies for forcing safe search in Google search results and YouTube.

Sadly I can't comment on that. We primarily use Intune for our iOS devices and DfE Windows laptops. If I had to hazard a guess, based on it's iOS and Windows performance, it's at least adequate.
