  1. Site controller first as he lives on site. Then me as I am next closest (usually never have to come out as site controller always there). Then site manager as he lives 30mins away.
  2. Thanks for responses. We used to have a redcare line but this was terminated due to cost a long time ago before I arrived. Our intruder alarm dials our site controller, then me and then the site manager until someone accepts the call. So we just need something for the Fire Alarm system, ideally the same sort of setup where it calls a control room, then they call a "site" mobile phone then each of the other responders. Our Fire Alarm maintenance company do not offer this type of service but will hook up the phone line for any service we go with. @Net-Ctrl I will send you a PM for contact details.
  3. Hi all, Does anyone have any recommendations for a fire alarm monitoring service? TIA, Tom
  4. Is it possible to do a quick report in staff and select absences but filter the dates for future? I don't do cover so no other help I am afraid.
  5. I had same issue with trying to add more than 5. I had to add additional fake one to the end and the others appear. Seems that anything over 5 the last one didn't appear.
  6. As part of our safeguarding, staff DBS are recorded in single central record (along with volunteer DBS and other persons who regularly work here) only the dbs check record number and check date. Any visitors dbs are photocopied by our reception team and the visitor is told that the copy will be destroyed at the end of the day (once the dbs number is recorded). We just had a safeguarding audit and this passed.
  7. We have investigated removing both old students (beyond the requirements) and old staff from sims. This is the most annoying and time consuming task possible. It never works as throws so many errors about it having linked items that you would spend about 3 days trying to remove everything for one member of staff. And even then it may not work depending on what they are linked to or what is linked to them. Capita have said (I am sure) they are going to design around the new GDPR requirements so I assume they will be redesigning the interface and links to make it easier to delete dats about leavers, and in bulk!
  8. Glad you got this resolved. Not nice when things break during routine maintenance! The only advice I have for future is take a full backup prior to any maintenance so you can easily roll back (I have had to do this once before won't exch2010). Especially with exchange as it does seem to break every now and then when applying cumulative updates. When I had my issue and had to restore, running the setup again just worked, no reason it shouldn't have worked the first time!
  9. We still have ours but it's G: here. We use permissions to restrict access to the sims folder. We use the drive to host other documents though, including the sims update files because every so often we get a laptop that has the update "deploying" through solus but doesn't actually do anything. So quicker to run the updates manually, easy to get to in the sims drive.
  10. We have been replacing ours with interactive projectors and dry wipe boards. Teachers are actually using the interactive features now as it works so well! They also love being able to actually write on the board using a dry wipe if they don't want to use the projector.
  11. Not sure if it has changed but we used to get errors on every single staff machine from Sims and other database based software due to hibernation. We turned off sleep ability the next day.
  12. Always great when it works!
  13. Guess that is "we've got SSDs" instead of "we've not got SSDs" otherwise please tell me what you are doing... my teacher moan even with SSDs on a 10s boot! Otherwise yes we shutdown everything every night except if logged in, if idle for more than 45 mins then shutdown enforced. Except certain computers such as finance and data because they leave lots open that seems to cause issue if closed every night.
  14. So I finally got to see the Head face to face and it turns out it wasn't a Sims feature, it was in fact something like NetSupport Notify or some other software! Chinese whispers. Also they want it on all teaching staff machines at the start of every lesson, even if they are not teaching! If I do something like that I can guarantee I would be harassed and shouted at by multiple staff, so I am going to sign the message from the headteacher
  15. This is what I suggested but they seem to think there was an automated system with a pop up?
  16. Hi all, I have been asked to setup an automated message when teachers do not complete their registers within 10 minutes of the start of their lessons, it should then alert again every 10 minutes until incomplete. Apparently our new head teacher had this at her old school. I don't recall seeing this as an option in Sims but thought you may have an idea? Maybe it is an addon or they are talking about the manual Missing Register notification using Sims messages? Any help/pointing in right direction would be much appreciated. TIA Tom
  17. I got called over to the other side of the school site today by a new member of staff because she couldn't print as there was a box that wouldn't "close". "Are you sure you want to print in color?" box, it was a yes/no option... My term has been a busy start.
  18. My new favourite phrase "it will be done when it is done". Finally finalised all network issues today, bar one ICT suite that has he fibre cores the wrong way round inside the panel, hopefully engineers will be back to correct next week but running on cat6 temp link for the moment. Also had to redo some work the intruder engineer had done as he hadn't run new cables but joined 30cm to a cut cable. Forgetting it ran two detectors. Back in early tomorrow to do snagging meeting and handover from one of the last projects we have had running over summer.
  19. We used to do this, but then our BM wanted the letter differently laid out. Cunninghams said the new format was not possible in their template so we have had to use mail merge after I manually export from their DB files. Do you know how they update their squid letter template?
  20. We use a mix of biostore, sQuid card and cunninghams. Cunninghams made the sQuid sync and automated it. No manual entry or updates here. Big issue is generating the welcome letters, I have been fobbed off so many times and now have to run a sql query on cunninghams to get a list of sQuid numbers and security codes with student names.
  21. Have done 80 hour weeks, still not 100% ready. Staff back today so lost time and more jobs added to the list. In over the weekend to finish off connecting buildings, checking wifi up and ICT suites which have been moved or refurbished need uplinks configuring. Builders are finishing stage 2 of our expansion this weekend too so hopefully I can get in there on Sunday to finalise networking. Dreading Monday and finding out which computers and phones aren't working as had 4 cabinets relocated and cabling rerun by contractors as part of electrical works.
  22. I don't entirely agree with others. We have a good setup, zero infrastructure and wireless issues here but our staff are increasingly demanding and we have had 7 different projects on over summer so has left me with 80 hour weeks. I have a 1:250 ish ratio and about to go up to 1:200 ish. (Computers only) Realistically if I had no projects, school expansion or demanding staff I would be happily doing 37 hour weeks and be twiddling my thumbs for some of it.
  23. You can do a named user license or per device, depending on how many machines or users you can work out the best value. See plans basic costs here: https://www.adobe.com/uk/creativecloud/plans.html
  24. We untag and Pvid the port to the management vlan of the ap, then tag the other vlans. The ap should then route the other vlan traffic to the tagged vlans.
