I thought it would be a good idea to try out the Samsung SmartThings as a custom security/monitoring system for our server room. It has door contact with temperature, motion sensor with temperature and moisture sensor "things". It didn't seem to work at the office so I took it home and everything connected up, took it back to the office and nothing. So I took it to another area of the school and it worked. I thought maybe something is blocking it, so I turned off power to everything in the area, completely shut off the power from the mains electric cupboard but still it wouldn't work (server room on ups). At the end of my tether with this stupid problem a friend has been in today and we have found a solution... to wrap the Smart Hub in kitchen foil. Now, I bet you are wondering why the hell would that work, I am thinking the same thing. It works at a range of about 5-8 meters max depending on device which is less than in other working areas of the school. But it DOES work when wrapped in kitchen foil, so what is the problem and how is the foil helping? A guess would be some sort of interference which the kitchen foil is helping prevent but still allowing the hub and things to communicate? I think when I was looking at this, you can get it to store all recovery keys before encrypting, into AD, and it would attach to the computer it was encrypted on object on AD. But cannot remember if this also applied to USB drives. It's a GPO setting I saw.

+1 Joomla. If you have been using dream weaver then you can probably modify a template relatively well to be the design you want too. We also use a URL shortening open source project installed on a short domain for linking letters and everything we want to text out or put out on social media. Saves people having to type out a full address.

Personally I really like the interactive projectors, Epson range with interactivity using pens and fingers. Pricing sold it for us over the interactive whiteboards and projector solution and no membrane to wreck. They auto calibrate so that is good too. When I looked at interactive screens the cost worked out far more (£400-600) for the size staff wanted (this included replacing bulbs within lifetime). My staff love them and I can't think of any cons, easy to install too. I am sure the cost difference in interactive screens and projectors is now a lot less but think I will still stick with interactive projectors for the moment.

You have to remember a few things, this is compacted data so the peak is likely a medium of a few hours, when a class all go to YouTube for example it will peak out for the initial stream then slow down as it buffers, and also you need some flexibility, you do not want to be maxing out your link constantly, leaving yourself twenty percent is reasonable. If you looked at traffic graphs for only school hours and had a more detailed view so you could see every ten minutes then you would have a better idea of your usage.

Cloud is good for something's like that. Do you use it as a mx hold if your internet feed were to go down too?

2 minutes x 30 = 1hour. Wouldn't be wasting my time with that, basically you would spend 2 hours a day on password resets. How about a custom field in AD that you just add 1 to every time. Then you could powershell it? Or simpler yet a spreadsheet. Or even as mentioned above a whiteboard/a4 paper on the wall with a user tally if not that many.

Effectively the same as @Boredguy but we do it for all our staff too, we have a udf in sims which when ticked does export staff as we don't want account for some such as cleaners. Then it goes into Ou based on the cncyear out of sims. I know a lot of people use software like salamandersoft which I would strongly recommend if you have the budget rather than constantly editing scripts when you want new features (such as email creation, shared folder permissions setup, moving user docs and so on) which has taken me a while to build ours up (now something like 1400 lines in power shell).

I am completely for MB their products are great and beat any other products we have used in the past. This issue is purely down to other companies products conflicting after definitions updates and their support quickly identified the issue and posted openly their updates on their forum. I would strongly recommend MB.

None, that's what the teachers get paid to do. You don't see any other teachers getting support planning their lessons. I have always had a slight issue as we our IT Support for the whole school, if they want support teaching their lessons then they need a departmental technician then they need to employ one, we are a separate department. Take science for example, they employ their own technicians within their department, not borrow a technician from site team who just happen to deal with chemicals too.

Yes. Sorry should have posted an update. So basically MS released a definitions update that conflicted with MBAM and still to date hasn't rectified their definitions. To fix you have to add exclusions of various into both MBAM and MSE/SCEP, which is very easy if you have SCCM and MB Enterprise console however your clients have to be responsive enough to pick up the update too, so for us it took about a day or two for it to filter down. As a work around to waiting you can boot into safe mode and disable MBAM from starting (SCEP starts even if you disable it, or at least it did on ours so no point) then load the exclusions to that machine using an exported Registry file and then start the service automatically again and give it a restart. We run a dedicated SQL server (in ESXi) and it uses local storage, sims DB runs off SSDs. We have a separate server VM for the sims "apps" and share. The sql server is specd up to run multiple SQL instances and some medium usage DBs. Don't see any performance issues running it on a VM compared to physical. I would recommend fast local storage, and calculate RAM based on what other DBs you will be storing. Depending on how you license your SQL server you will want to take the cost per processor core into consideration. Agreed networked storage is going to provide poor performance as after all it is a SQL DB.

When I took over our page, I filled in all the info so it matched our school info and then got the page verified which merged the auto generated page and our page together and made mine appear top of the list as it was verified.

Not everyone has wds. Also don't forget you need to install server before you can get your first wds deployment running so unless you are running VMware or likewise on your physicals you still need bootable installation media.
