Retention of visitors is an interesting one, for safeguarding, but I haven’t seen any official retention policies. Often it is down to the school to decide on things like this. Just a note on evacuations, usually fire rescue don’t want to know if everyone is accounted for, they want to know if the building has been cleared (which is different).

Anything that has personal data. Not just student data, you must include anything that uses personal data about anyone (parents, staff, students, volunteers, visitors, etc)

Just went with GDPRis for our data maps, they have a good list of our software/system suppliers so most information ready for us. Thought it was reasonably priced too for all it does.

I should also say, we have other schools IT teams round to see our setup and share ideas, likewise I visit other local schools to see their setups and share ideas. So if we were doing something badly wrong it would be picked up.

Didn’t have that when we were LA. We had an audit by an IT company (their MD) come in (arranged by the HT) to get an understanding of what funding we really needed. Turns out we did need everything we were asking for and so the school finally agreed to spend the money (1 year only) made my predecessor quit over the way the HT handled it. No trust in us then and wasted money checking what we were saying was true. Haven’t had one since, seems they trust us now (plus new HT).

Yes, we have our tills on a vlan (actually was its own little network originally) and then the server is on a vm which has two nics, one on tills vlan, other on vlan to biostore/sims server/internet access. Runs really well in that setup. Old tills used to fall over on our lea wan subnet so had to do a separate network way back. Now off the lea and canteen moved so gone down the vlan route. +1 for removing VNC, they really like it but the version they try and put on is too old and has security holes. They don’t ever need to get anywhere other than server which I give access to using logmein anyway. Wouldn’t want our catering manager getting a phone call from someone claiming to be Cunningham and just letting them directly connect to our network.

I stopped using them two years ago in a dispute about a incorrectly labelled hover on their website (110v instead of 240v delivered). Attempted to use them again after a year and a half as they had some good deals but ended up in a delivery dispute despite clear cctv evidence, had to wait a month for delivery of items their warehouse never dispatched in the first place. Told them I would never use them again and all our local schools too. I thoroughly support Softcat and their ecat portal as an alternative.

I would respond along he lines of “IT Network Manager, [email protected], schools main reception number” enjoy getting filtered out like the rest of the cheeky companies trying to exploit FOI. No requirement to respond with direct contact information or names.

Had something similar with another product that used Xporter, rang Groupcall who Support Xporter and they where very helpful. The fix was to run database diagnostics in Sims. And then run validate memberships which took about 45 minutes.

Will that even work, what about a photo with 5 children in it, if it is under a folder for child A - E but then child E says he doesn’t want it stored you still have it under child A - D folders.

I was just going to try this but apparently the marks have disappeared. I have checked and nobody seems to know about it so we are quite confused as to what has happened seen as it wouldn't save the fact we had deleted them since Friday and yesterday but now they are gone? Anyway seems sorted. Thanks. Tom

Hi all, We have a student who was marked as "N" absent by a teacher, when we have gone to change this code in Edit Marks it has a pale yellow background showing conflicting marks, right clicking on the code then selecting "Show conflicting marks" shows the conflicting marks. They are "O" and "N", I have tried to log in as the teacher and change the code to "O" and then both the conflicting marks show as "O", but surely they are no longer conflicting at this point? The main reason is this student is no off roll and we are trying to delete her marks from Lesson Monitor and this is the only mark we are unable to delete. The rest delete but we cannot edit this at all. If we go into Routines, Lesson Monitor and then Resolve Conflicting Lesson Marks, the conflict doesn't show here. We have tried logging in as the teacher and closing Take Register as well on this register as this is what our LA support team suggested. No matter what we do we can only amend the mark by going to that teachers register (lesson 1) and then editing it, this only changes 1 of the 2 marks showing in Edit Marks "Display Conflicting Marks" area, both show the same teacher, class and room against this lesson. There is no conflicting marks if I go back to the same lesson in previous weeks. I have been told no timetable changes have been made either. The lesson in questions was yesterday lesson 1. Any ideas as to how to get rid of these marks? Thanks, Tom

This (GPP) is what I am using and the printers are disappearing, this is only happening on my new Windows 10 deployment, not any windows 7 clients. I am thinking either driver or gpo as the old gpos for Windows 7 are wmi only to Windows 7 so maybe I missed something on the new Windows 10 gpos I made.

We used to have this issue and it was to do with driver deployment, I changed a setting in GPO and it worked for Window 7. However, I am getting this again after deploying Windows 10 (not sure what GPO I had applied but nothing seems to be working), the event log is giving me an error id 4089 with an "Invalid parameter" under the Application event log on the client as the user logs in. I will be working on this tomorrow and Friday so will post if I find any information. Are you also getting event id 4089 on the client machine when the user logs in and the printer fails to deploy?

As said above. You need to use your KMS host key to activate your kms server, then the clients use the kms client key which is public to activate and find them add count to your kms server. This is a guide I found online which helps with doing this (sorry I can’t remember the steps from memory but I think there is a kms host download for each version of office that when installed on your kms server asks to enter the kms host key and does all this for you as an alternative method) http://edhammond.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/add-your-office-2016-kms-keys-to-your.html

Police would usually seize the cctv footage as evidence so you wouldn’t need to redact anything anyway.

I guess it depends if the external facing website is there to access data, which is the same data on the internal systems. For example, Sims data being put on various systems so that parents and staff can access it anywhere, it is externally accessible but all the data that would have only been accessible internally, is now accessible externally. As long as you have a good password policy then having the same login details for multiple systems isn’t terrible and quite common in this time (such as using sso or ad authentication).
