GDPR - CCTV footage of fights
forkies replied to ozydave's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
How long do you keep behaviour logs for? -
Routines -> Staff -> Delete Staff. Or something along those lines. Double check with HR about retention periods of records.
-
No, all users have their own user accounts.

The whole repository folder is 5.8GB Auto download is set, thought this autodownloaded it and extracted it on the server only, then when you do the deployment it send out to clients. This is happening now a couple of months since the last update was deployed and these clients received the update back then so don't see why it would be downloading any more now. It is set to auto deploy SOLUS between 3.30 and 5.30 am daily. but the bandwidth is throughout the day usually all at once for a couple of hours. Not at the same time necessarily on each device.

Hi all, I have had an intermittent issue for a while where different machines are pulling data from our Solus server. The clearest picture I get of this is from Meraki dashboard for our wifi. It shows one of our laptops has pulled 110GB from Solus (port 52965) in the past week. We have 8 other wireless devices that have pulled between 10GB and 110GB of data from Solus in a week each. I have tried reinstalling Solus client for it to happen again on the same devices later. There doesnt seem to be any reason for this as we have not pushed any updates and even when we do it only uses a few hundred MB usually. This week we have used 306GB of data through Solus just on our wireless network. More if you include the hard wired. I haven't logged with our LA Sims support yet as they are rather busy and it will only get escalated to Capita anyway so thought I would see if anyone else has seen anything similar before I waste their time. Thanks, Tom

So yesterday I managed to do a bit of testing on a client. We had a computer that was getting pop ups from someone else (still unknown who) they had a department listed so I thought I would use papercut to send a test message to the clients of everyone in that department and watch to see which ones appeared on the computer. However, NON of the test messages come to the computer? I checked DNS and the record for the laptop was pointing at the correct IP and there was no other records going to that IP. The laptop was Windows 7 this time. I was not able to see the job in the job log in papercut that had appeared on the computer I assume because it hadn't been released. I also sent a test message to the correct user of the computer to make sure it got it correctly and it did. I will investigate DNS further but all records seem to be correct when I looked at it in the above instance. Thanks, Tom

I use Ubiquiti links for a small network at the back of our field. 300m line of sight and I installed myself. Get 95% signal strength and that gives me good speeds. The air fibre model I haven’t used but I would expect the same sort of experience, which is very very good!

[ms office - 2016] Outlook 2016 Name Resolution/Friendly names etc
forkies replied to ChrisH's topic in Office Software
I had a quick search but found a lot of people asking the same sort of thing with no known resolution. The only suggestion is to change the forward message option to attach the original instead of including original message text. Outlook -> options -> mail -> replies and forwards -> when forwarding a message -> attach original message. Hope this helps. Thanks, Tom -
It is set to "Y".

Thanks for the reply. No these computers are effectively assigned to just one user. No fast user switching.

Hi all, I have had an issue which comes and goes, mainly affecting about 2-5 people when it does occur. The issue is user A will get papercut print accounts (when they try to print) of user B and when user B tries to print the papercut client will pop up on user A screen. So effectively user A cannot print as they do not have permission to user B print accounts. User A gets random papercut client pop ups to charge print jobs which they aren’t printing. User A has to log out and log back in for this to correct (or restart the papercut client if they have permission). As above this affects various users and there doesn’t seem to be a common occurrence, ie not the same users (that I know of), different times and days of week. The only thing that is common so far is it is hitting only our windows 10 users (again, that I know of). No logs show any information and due to the nature of the users (teachers) I am unable to have access to their machines to do testing when it happens as they are teaching. Has anyone else come across this? It has been happening since December I believe when we upgraded to v17 and our windows 10 clients have latest papercut client installed, running locally. Thanks, Tom

We use Doddle, brought in by an assistant head. Unfortunately although it seems a good product I get the general feedback from teaching staff that it is poor, because: Doesn’t cover the same resources they need for their exam board. Doesn’t allow students to upload work/submit files. Some departments prefer using their own VLEs like Kerboodle. Students forget logins all the time as not sso. Can be slow. My only issue is that with about half the school not wanting or actually using Doddle it is VERY expensive for my budget.

I don’t think it is specifically the deletion of the profiles causing the issue, but more the first time logging in without a profile local to the machine. If a user logs in here first time they generally don’t have the printer. If they log out and log back in (and subsequent log ins of that user) it works. If they log out and another user logs in who is again a first time login, then they have the same issue. Appears a profile has to exist for the user on the computer for the printer to successfully deploy.

Well this is the second major issue I have had from them, the one before was the clash between Malwarebytes and Microsoft Endpoint which effectively killed all of our clients.

Or a massive keychain? I mean like just tie anything to it using the hole?
-
Or a usb extension for them to plug into, cheaper to replace then a mouse and would last much longer than vandalism of the mouse.

My understanding is the quantity isn’t but company size but by data size. If you have data on enough data subjects or data which is really sensitive (like pretty much every school, independent or not) you had to have a DPO. There isn’t a fixed size, so any independent school should be getting a DPO in my opinion.

BYOM = bring your own mouse
-
How about, every student buys one and they have to carry it in their bag, they must bring it every day (like their pencil case) and plug it in for every IT lesson (almost like a PE kit), removing theirs at the end of each IT lesson. No mice stay on the computers and if they brake their own mouse their parents must replace it, like if they lost their PE kit. Sensible solution?

Database update v12 fixes the issue! So if you have the latest update you are now ok.
-
Thanks, already applied this fix to all servers. Updated client policies to have Web protection off. Unfortunately in testing I uninstalled MBAM from one server and it is still not working properly, I think it autoquarantined some services files and now having to potentially do a restore of system files.
-
Managed to get into the MBAM support forum and they have just raised the issue and a Dev has replicated the issue so working on a fix. Link to forum post on MBAM support: https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/219923-issue-with-malwarebytes/

Hi all, A heads up for anyone using Malwarebytes Enterprise Anti-Malware protection (MBAM) Just had all my servers stop working properly (I am at working sorting out my kitchen cupboard). I have managed to identify that our Malwarebytes Enterprise has updated with Database version v2018.01.27.03 (Dated 2018/01/27 15:38:31 GMT). This update appears to flag most server services and is blocking incoming connections for DNS and Exchange etc... If you can get onto your server (I had to go through vSphere as all remote connections are blocked) and you manage to login, you can launch the Malwarebytes app, right click on the tray icon and untick "Website Blocking" which appears to fix the issue almost immediately. I am raising a case with Malwarebytes Enterprise support as I type this. Thanks, Tom

Visitor Management systems
forkies replied to mdrabble's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
Depends what data is on the sign in. Have you done a DPIA? A list of random names means nothing, if you have their DOB or something then yes I would agree, but nothing on our visitor sign in sheet would be seen as a breach of personal data. -
GDPR + Users signing up to services themselves
forkies replied to PyROm's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
I would assume you could put the services/suppliers in your privacy notice or consent form and then have them consent to these at that point? Instead of having parents or the students consent on every single individual app/service.
