How are the other computers (the ones that shouldn’t be printing to it) getting that printer listed? Are you deploying it to all computers or are you doing deployment on a user basis? We deploy printers using GPo deployment from the print management server for staff per machine, but for the student computers we deploy them using gpo per user and then use a targeting by ou to deploy the printers to only computers in each room. Users cannot add their own printers so we have to deploy them via print server for this to work. We also use papercut mf.

I had a similar thing when the sql database for SOLUS3 became corrupt after a forced shutdown. Could be worth checking the database in the sql management to make sure it is mounted and not “suspect”.

After much vandalism we have now refurbished all of our toilets into open plan, unisex toilets with no urinals, only cubicles. We have cctv covering the entire open space of the toilets but not inside the cubicles. Not had any vandalism or reports of bullying since just after this.

I use Softcat Ltd for my licensing, they have a contact at MS they put me through with. I don't see them being on your network as an issue, the external connector is categorised around the user that is connecting not where from. External person in the form of outside of employment not outside the building otherwise you could use that connector to allow your staff to connect in from home which actaully requires a user CAL.

When I spoke to ms they said hosted services where aimed at companies such as server hosts who provide hosting for entire organisations or software as a service hosting. External user is someone who does not have “employee level access” and therefore students qualify as they are effectively a customer. Staff would not qualify as they have employee level access so they need cals.

Did you not see @fiza post, links directly to the ms website with an explanation of external users, students do fit into that description. I spoke to ms directly when I was looking at this and they said it was correct.

We have external connector for students and cals for staff. Cost around £500 for connector and £5/6 ish for cals.

Can you remove the port of the faulty link from the lag? Then stp should kick in and kill the port presuming correct costs are setup. Or you could then disable the port.

To be honest most of the time thieves are more interested in laptops, desktops and projectors. They want things they can easily carry and that are easy to flog. Server rooms generally aren’t the target, your ICT suites, laptops trolleys and classroom projectors will be hit well in advance of the server room. However, we do not mark our server room door. It has recently been moved from another building so no one knows where it is really. Physical security and intruder alarms are more effective than not signing a door.

Have had similar issues, I set a gpo to run the local exe on logon so it always defiantly runs (as before it sometimes failed). I do however get the odd user with the wrong printing accounts and they cannot print as don’t have permission to them. Then they do have to log off and back on. Not running the latest version though so that might now be fixed. We also had a problems with printers not mapping consistently for our student computers, ended up changing the way we map printers for students. I did speak to a few people and we all ended up agreeing that a windows update must have broken the way we had been deploying printers (still works fine to this day on staff machines) but as it had been so long since the issue started cropping up we had no idea which update had broken it.

We do this through a top level share and read only (used to give the ICT teachers modify too but they accidentally moved half a year groups home folders into someone else’s and I then said they couldn’t be trusted)

We have a number of public services on our site, including a public library, a local council office and a public leisure centre. We own the buildings and have a lease on the land, then rent it out to them. Police are pretty much always on site so very helpful with any problems we have and giving talks to the students!

We also have a police station on site. So I would hope they would have a look!
