I do use it although in a slightly odd way - We have a public mailing list that news gets sent to so I use CBM to generate that as news on the website. See - abercu.org.uk - Home "Latest news" is populated directly from the mailing list. As with all modules I recommend you don't try it on your live site until your sure it's working ok. Cheers Jona

To clarify what I was trying to say (admittedly a long shot). Navigate to your LDAP authentication plug settings page in moodle "Settings link in Administration > Users > Authentication" Scroll down until you get to Email: then set Lock value to be "Locked" (See screenshot).

We had this problem at one point unfortunatly we now have a script to create users directly for our database. This might work: In LDAP settings don't assign an e-mail field but set it to be locked. Does your OU not hold e-mail addresses? Sorry not to be more help. Cheers Jona

ContentByMail (Joomla! Extensions Directory - ContentByMail (formerly MamboByMail)) is awesome for generating content with zero end-user hassle.

I don't use Joomla in anger so I'm not sure if this applies but have found this: Joomla! Community Forum • View topic - Unique Email Required? Where is it?? I'd seriously recommend you rethink why your needing to do this and try to find another solution though. Jona

Well you've heard from multiple people that what you want to do isn't possible. I expect you could hack the Joomla code to disable unique e-mail address checking but as noted above unique e-mails are required by Joomla so you will probably break a whole host of other things. This leaves you with a limited number of options as outlined above. Cheers Jona

A good guide on how to customise the way Moodle looks
Jona replied to FN-GM's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Do you mean the theme of moodle? In which case Silk is a nice (but hard to find theme) see: http://moodle.coleggwent.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=58&topic=1 Some quite nice themes have also been added to moodle.org lately as well: Moodle: Themes If you mean modifying how course/data/etc is displayed if you has a specific query I'll probably be able to help as I spend quite a lot of my day maintaining our custom Moodle 1.8 build.... This is correct, .docx is just a zip wrapper for the document files See: Introducing the Office (2007) Open XML File Formats and http://www.docx2doc.com/Newbies-Guide-To-docx.aspx

Don't do this multiple anti-virus software can interfere with each other, system hooks, etc. And leave you with a dead system.

Just to throw in another issue, if your using a private vehicle for buisness purposes you need to make sure your insurance covers you to do so....

Do you not think you might be a little bias here?

There's loads of enrolment methods for moodle, one of which is LDAP so you might be able to use that, if something in your context identified staff members. Otherwise here we use an external database to control enrolement.

I suspect this will only work if your on the same ip range / subnet as the switch. You could try some common ones I suppose....
-
Loads of info about how to reset one of these switches here: 3Com: Switches - Password Recovery for all 3COM superstack switches but you do need a null modem lead Jona

I assume you've seen: How to create and use a bootable USB memory stick as a floppy drive replacement ? (beware window resizing if you click the link) I guess "A bootable USB memory stick that can emulate a USB-ZIP or USB-FDD device." Is the crucial line.

Hey all, We've been playing around with joomla 1.5. We want to create a bi-lingual site (English and Welsh) but you only seem to be able to change the language as an Admin. Is there some way to provide the users with an option to change the language? Cheers Jona

I would recommend against putting all the cc3 gubbins onto an eeepc if you still want it to be usable! However lots of people here have got them working in a school environment using the native linux OS, ubuntu or windows. See: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/nix/15130-howto-integrate-eeepc-into-existing-windows-network.html EeePC - Linux OS - EduGeek.net Wiki Asus eeePC Charging, Battery and Power-Saving Tips - EduGeek.net Wiki Hope that helps.
