Update Manager missing in vSphere web client
Sheridan replied to Sheridan's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Fair enough - as long as I'm not missing something obvious! -
I've noticed we can only see the Update Manager tab in the vSphere client (running the appliance 6.5 as a VM) when we access it using the Flash option, not the HTML5 verion regardless of the browser. I've had a look around and I can't see anyway this can be enabled - we're using the VCSA Version 6.5 so the Update manager is built into it. Has anyone worked around this, as I'd rather use the html5 option!
-
Yeah I did think about trial versions, but ideally we'd like to allow a whole department of staff (approx 6 people and 10 PCs) the chance to convert them at their own pace!
-
I've never looked into Classflow or OneNote to be honest - do they handle Notebook files or convert them?
-
Does anyone know of a program that can convert Smart Notebook (V10) files to powerpoint? I know that Notebook has an export to Powerpoint option, but it doesn't work (probably because 10.8 is an old version of Notebook and we're running Office 2016 with VBA installed) We're probably ditching old smartboard for touchscreens but have quite a lot of old notebook files to convert.

We were told physical cores on the servers, regardless of how many you assign to your vms.

[tv show] Blake's 7: 40th Anniversary Of First Broadcast
Sheridan replied to 6Foot2's topic in TV & Movies
It was pretty creaky back then but I loved it, watching the old episodes again has reminded why I loved it, Avon and Soolin! -
We just asked our reseller to add on server core licenses to our OVS agreement - just estimate the number of cores your VMs will need and bung a few more on for good measure!

Sorry I'd been distracted and have only just got back to this. We use xirrus wireless and its only the 2 ipads that are running our visitor sign in system that have this issue - but they're also the only two that are on 24 hours a day (albeit charged on a timer) Once they drop the wifi, the only way to get it back on is to switch the wifi off and on. I've reset, updated and tried new profiles but it still happens on a regular but intermittent basis. None of the other ipads have this issue - some can be 'asleep' for days but reconnect on wake up within a minute or so. I wonder if being on constantly is causing a hardware problem, but it seem odd it affects both a full size ipad and an ipad mini in the same way, or perhaps they have the same wifi chipset.

And it also happens when trying to whitelist webex components - the path "%OSDRIVE%\PROGRAMDATA\WEBEX\*" is whitelisted for Everyone, but the event viewer logs the error "%OSDRIVE%\PROGRAMDATA\WEBEX\WEBEX\T31_TC\ATMGR.EXE was prevented from running" which contradicts itself! I think I'll remove applocker and leave SRP on instead, that seems to work consistently.

Windows 7 was extremely stable for us deploying printers - rarely we had a driver issue but nothing like the problems with have with 10.
-
We've had issues with printers since 1607 - deployed as a GPO machine preference and they can appear on half the room, but not the other half, we don't seem to have a consistent pattern. In many cases the printer doesn't appear in Devices and Printers, yet appear in the printer list in Word which is odd.

Oddly yes - both GRResult and the event viewer show the policy being applied - and the event viewer also logs that it was allowed to run!
-
I've done both methods, executable and Packaged app rules. The skypeapp.exe and skypehost.exe run when you open the App (visible when checking the task list) so I thought at least one method would stop it from running!
-
I'll dump the gpo when I'm back in the office - we do have a default allow rule for packaged apps - but then specifically deny the ones we don't use/need.
-
LOL - Applocker just ignores what I put in! It logs 'The AppLocker policy was applied successfully to this computer.' in which Skype is blocked as an executable, a packaged app and an exception to the allow rules and it still runs Maybe your'e right, Microsoft ignore their own rules....
-
Basically we have SkypeApp.exe and SkypeHost.exe as Blocked for Everyone (doesn't need to be everyone, but I was trying all ways!) in the Executable Rules. As the Program Files folder has a default rule to allow, I also added both of those as Exceptions to that rule. SRP was so reliable, applocker seems to be so variable I'm losing faith in it. Checking the logs, it shows 'MICROSOFT.SKYPEAPP was allowed to run.' in the Packaged-App Execution log, and I can't put a rule in for those as MMC crashes out. Does a Packaged App rule overrule a Executable rule I wonder?
-
Anyone finding Applocker rather unreliable in 10? For example, the Edu version of 10 comes with Skype Preview (of course, why wouldn't you want that with Edu!) and the dism commands to remove it leave it on the menu. So, I thought I'll just stop it running, when they start it it create the processes SkypeApp.exe and SkypeHost.exe - both of these are blocked in Applocker but still run. Looking at the Applocker logs, it says the Microsoft.SkypeApp was allowed to run - so whats the point of having executable rules if it ignore them? Of course, I can't add the packaged app in Applocker as GPMC crashes when you browse the list - same bug from 1607 but I would have thought the executable rule will work anyway!

On one of our 2012 R2 servers we can't install anything, every installer we've tried simply fails with the even viewer showing 'Installation success or error status: 1603' Verbose logging doesn't show much more apart from the line: MSI © (A4:F0) [10:38:10:684]: Back from server. Return value: 1603 I've tried a different account, restarting the Installer service, re-registering the installer service and checked all the permissions to the program files folders but everything seems ok? Of course its a heavily used server so a full reboot is the last resort!

Odd, it seems to be working her for us on W10 Edu 1607/1703.
-
I seem to have this recurring problem with Applocker Packaged App Rules - it was working, then started crashing, then working and now back to crashing again! It seems to happen when clicking the 'Select' button to choose an app when creating a new rule - you either get an MMC crash or it simply hangs. I've never found out what breaks or fixes it?

Does anyone know where I can get power supplies for the old ActiveBoard 1/2 - the USB power supply AB ACTIV-PSU-UK? Everywhere I look seems to be out of stock!

Weird one this, we have a kiosk app for visitor sign in running on two iPads - one standard 9.7 and a Mini 3. Both are joined to our wifi, and both stay on continuously (powered all the time) Every so often, they lose the wifi - despite showing the SSID they won't connect. The only way to get them to reconnect is to toggle the wifi on and off which is a pain for a device that is supposed to stay online all the time. I've even had one plugged into AC to view the console but I couldn't see anything that was relevant - and I doubt its hardware related as they are different devices, but I'm stumped as to what is causing it. Our wireless doesn't switch off at any time and all of the other ipads used by staff reconnect when unlocked every time. The only thing I can think of is that iPads wifi cards die if left on continuously but other people use them like this so how do they get around it!

It is nice to see a positive drive from SMT though, especially as this is a big commitment for the future.
