IOS Word app read only for Office 365
Sheridan replied to Sheridan's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Just clocked it - the free A1 subscription doesn't include the Apps, only the paid for A3 has them, and they only have the free version! -
We've noticed in some of our primaries that the staff using Word on their ipad, and they have Office 365 accounts. The problem is when they open word it tells them "word doesn’t allow editing on your device, for accounts with full access contact your organisation" - if they then proceed to Sign In using their 365 details it still opens them as read only. I'm not sure whats going on here, it used to work before and their 365 domain hasn't changed recently or has MS changed something?

Got this working now - thanks!

We use Egress Switch for a limited number of user who have to have this facility but the SMIME option in G Suite looks interesting, no idea when it will be available as yet though?

I think its because the email domain is the councils, and Microsoft have this domain flagged as not usable for VLSC login. It doesn't matter which way I do it I get the same error: Error Code E05 We are sorry. We are unable to complete your sign up to VLSC as the email domain you have provided is restricted for automatic sign up If I says its a Microsoft account, it simply says that the email is not recognised as a Microsoft account!
-
It doesn't recognise it as an MS account (it isn't hotmail/outlook) so it should be a work account I guess - its just not allowed for the domain it seems
-
I've been asked to download some software from the VLSC licensed by one of our primaries - they have given me the details but when I try to login I get the message "We are unable to complete your sign up to VLSC as the email domain you have provided is restricted for automatic sign up." It looks like the email address they used is a council hosted one (i.e [email protected]) , but the council weren't involved in this purchase, so does MS look at the email domain name and falsely assume its a .gov.uk so it must be unsuitable for VLSC login?

Managed to sort it - even though it was showing as the latest version of 9.0 (i.e 9.0.0.1715) I ran the 9.0 Update 2 package again. Once this completed it still showed as 9.0.0.1715 but the update package to 9.5 now worked!
-
Using SQL Server 2012 which is still supported I believe? Tried with local account and other domain accounts but get the same. I'm going to try upgrading using an earlier version of 9.5 that I have to see if thats any better

I'm trying to update veeam Backup and Replication 9.0 (update 2) to the latest 9.5 build. It gets as far as the SQL Server selection screen and generates the error 'Unable to detect database action' - which is one of the most useless messages I've seen for a while :-) I'm waiting for a response from veeam but wondered if anyone else had seen this? I can't even add a new SQL instance as this option is greyed out in the installer as it defaults to selecting the already present instance for 9.0.

We don't use that policy but delete profiles that are > 2 weeks old (students) and > 6 weeks old (staff) using delprof - we still get the problem of disappearing (or partially appearing!) printers
-
Yeah I think that’s a more useful option to us instead of the local authority who always seem to have a hidden agenda!

Basically a full audit of ICT services and procedures. The last one we had checked the security/backups/updates and general housekeeping done by the ICT team. It was wholly directed towards the ICT support side of things to make sure good practice (in their eyes!) was being followed.
-
As an academy I'm curious to know if any other academies out there still have an ICT Audit from their local authority? Or do you use an external provider/peer from another academy? We used to have the local authority audit and it would be due around now, so I'm interested to see what other academies do.

But if I'm only trying to set the Chrome Mailto handler, I had the right settings? I'm not trying to set it for Windows 10 - just for when they click a mailto link in Chrome itself?
-
I've set a policy to add a preference to make the Mailto handler in Chrome open a tab to Gmail - its deploying OK but doesn't work (i.e when the user click a mailto link it simply says they need an app to handle it) I've set the policy Software\Policies\Google\Chrome\Recommended\RegisteredProtocolHandlers to the following as per Googles documentation: [{"url": "https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s", "default": true, "protocol": "mailto"}] I can see that its applied to the users registry by my preferences, but it doesn't have any effect on mailto links Is this a non started in Chrome on W10, or have I got something wrong here?

I've noticed on a few iPads (mainly since ios 11) that the amount of storage showing in Settings is always quite a lot more than a third party app shows. For example on one typical device , Apple's settings show 6 GB free, three separate 3rd party apps all show around 1.6GB free - so who's telling the truth? Or are Apple calculating the free storage in a different way (i.e removing the amount used by apps or something like that)
-
Maybe we should all chip in and raise a community support ticket!

I think MS have given up on their OS in education, they only want to be involved in 1:1 devices and 365.
-
This is the direction things seems to be going in, rather than providing a safe environment we are increasingly being asked to unblock things, reduce previously requested security settings to allows students more freedom. Personally it seems the only way this will end up is with 1:1 devices and practically unfiltered access apart from the core things that would be blocked anywhere. I love to see new technology being introduced and giving more flexibility in the classroom is great but there’s a tipping point where we almost relinquish control to allow it.

No its a newish app - just ordered through the VPP store. Not 32 bit only either as far as I can tell. It seems to be AC related, as no matter how long I wait all of the ipads show with the 'spinning' icon as if something is still going on.
-
One of our primaries has a set of ipads and Macbook using AC2 - its been fine until recently I've tried adding a single app to the ipads. AC2 is reading the VPP assignments OK and I can select the app from the list, yet it just hangs at the step of downloading the app itself. All the ipads show up with the spinning wheel, and even leaving it for hours shows no movement in the download progress bar. As AC2 is a flakey piece of donkey droppings at the best of time I'm not sure how to see if its actually downloading - or whether its just incredibly slow? - the internet connection is pretty good so I doubt its that.
-
Indeed! I spend a good while chatting to Google support before I posted here - next time I'll post here first
-
It worked, brilliant - thank you.

We don't have that enabled - but does it need access to Classroom? I thought it only accessed their Drive? We don't even get as far as the point where it asks if you want to allow access, once you sign in/select your GAFE account it shows the message.
