ahh this is a different way of work with it to what im doing as im changing options then recapturing and deploying to see how it reacts with option changes. i havent used a VM just working on a "real" pc

Hi all, been having some odd behaviour with testing sysprepped images and after 3 preps it locks out the local admin account and doesnt put the drivers in correctly. so is there a limit which isnt documented that has a limit set when making changed to an image?

Has any one come across the following in event viewer: "Possibly memory leak. Application ("c:\windows\system32\mmc.exe" "c:\windows\system32\dhcpmgmt.msc") has passed a null pointer to RPC etc etc. having researched the error it appears that microsoft say this is a "false error" and isnt a problem, however i have noticed that clients attempting to get an address over wireless is very flaky (the wireless clients are not joined to the domain) switching on allowing updates from none secure sources has improved the issue. (wired connections dont exhibit the issue) but it appears that as soon as this message crops up there is an issue. i have applied a hot fix to DHCP a few weeks ago, which hasnt really fixed anything, one part of my mind says that the issue is server related but the other is pointing at a problem with the Access points sending and receiving DHCP traffic to and from the server which would be VERY odd as the aps are not an managed solution which advanced blocking features or anything (Dlink 1360's) Progress is great

does the DHCP role has credentials set to update the DNS server? think this might only apply to clients that dont request the DNS update themselves.

there is a forwarder enabled, (im not actually on the site where i can test this at the moment) but do i need both of the options enabled as the local DNS is going to forward requests it cant resolve to the forwarder dns

i havent got any examples to hand perhaps posting them might be an idea

On a small 2008R2 network (single DNS server on the DC) it has Root hints enabled but it is also set to forward to the council's DNS. in the "best practice diag" it grumbles that the root hints cannot be resolved and ideally it should be able to do this. the installation is pretty much left as default out of the box so if im forwarding DNS requests should this be disabled? is there a performance gain or is it the best practice menu being overly sensitive?.

out if interest i see that you can modify/create GPO packages but it appears to require SSCM to do it, is there a another way to edit these to use within MDT. **edited to say that i have found the MS security compliance Manager kit, tho by the sounds of it i only need one part of it. yay another instance of SQL lite.....

Does any one use the dlink DAP-1360 as an ordinary access point? have they found any issues with it allowing wireless clients to request and receive DHCP addresses? i see that dlink market it now as a wireless range extender (it does have the options for access point mode) im just wondering if it isnt really a suitable AP? the datasheet is rather minimal and doest state if it support passing DHCP packets through it (im pretty sure it does but the performance/reliability is pretty poor for clients, signal strength etc is good) any thoughts or feedback be grand

hi, i would recommend mark minasi's mastering windows server 2003 book its massive but covers alot. for the specific IP address for devices you could assign a static address on the device in the access points web management tool. or a better way from a management point of view would be to assing a reservation in your DHCP scope (you will need the mac address of the accesspoints lan point) there is the add reservation option in the dhcp manager under admin tools from the start menu.

i couldnt see how to get SLG to display exported PDF's (does it do it on the fly or only if the report is run in the school and then published)

does it actually put it in a friendly manner, we used it a while back and the opinion at the time was that the tables of data you could display just were not friendly to look at. The reports you can create in SIMS for child reports looked much better, or even being able to access a published PDF through slg would be better than the nasty tables it showed (it has been some time since we used it)

if its a kyocera print and your using a KX driver try changing this to one of the "classic" KPDL/PCL drivers as the performance is soo much better, not quite as snappy as a 2003 server (in my experience) but driver selection is so much mpore important when it comes to performance. also HP have published recommended drivers for certain printer models under 2008R2 to improve performance.

having a similar issue with MDT where it appears to be ignoring the CopyProfile section of my unattend.xml when deploying a captured image. i was under the impression i could setup the administrator profile and have it replicated on the fly as part of the deployment of the image to a pc. from what you have said i need to use audit mode with the administrator account and then manually sysprep it on the machine, and then capture? **edited: im using the unattend.xml specified for the deployment task not one im copying to the PC then running it**

Your LEA most likely has a guideline of requirements for SIMS and the the SQL host (HCC does)

i user an older version at a primary and its fine, the later versions with symantec branding all over the place does the job but have to see if there is any change in reliability

when i tried this i just used the http://linuxmachinename:port. is the server set to allow incoming connections, it was either centos/ubuntu which needed the IPTABLES tweaking to allowing incoming traffic

i used a via c7 and a couple of drives in a MDAM mirror worked really well, only recently replaced it with a buffalo nas and imo its got a few niggles. if it was me id home brew something and then put a media/streaming server over the top. though tbh alot of the 2 bay un populated stuff is pretty good straight out of the box

+1 on this also if most of the hardware is run on intel boards i bet you will not need loads of differing install packages and intels often cover a range of chipsets same goes for alot of the nics they put on the boards etc. should take long to get a decent bundle together

you need to manually remove the packages which you dont need, i think you can use the cleanup wizard if that doesnt work try using wsusutil.exe, i havent used it for a LONG time so would suggest reading the options for it 1st

recently come across a problem on the 2k3 box which is hosting a couple of ASP application (Eclipse/intranet submission forms etc) and have suddenly found that in event viewer the system.serviceModel3 is throwing up alot of out of memory errors (specifically that the free memory is less that 5%) reading further into the log and it would suggest and issue with Eclipse.Net but nothing has changed on the server, my knowledge of ASP is very minimal so not sure where to start while i wait for MLS support to get back to me. could it be related to the ASP not being able to create a "disk cache subdirectory" on the default app pool?? any suggestions would be greatly received
