there are GPO for offline files under both the user and local computer look for "Offline Files". (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\Offline Files) also be worth checking that the actual users folders have the offline option switched off as by default i believe it sets it to "let the user decide". also if mobsync is in the Run part of the registry kill that as well.

got a couple of viglen HPC 1u servers (2x opteron 270 4GB RAM IDE HDD) from what i can gather they wont run ESXI as no raid so ideas what they might be useful for? was thinking of a testbed for bits and bobs but seeing as most stuff which is interesting to test is usual based around virtual environments this is a bit of a none starter fit for the bin only?

How can we get the best out of our rubbish netbooks?
SHimmer45 replied to reggiep's topic in How do you do....it?
netbooks on a domian is asking for trouble they just dont have the grunt required. imo a "home" based device which got pushed into being used beyond "a cheap internet device" -
+1 on the comments for the buffalo kit (if its not using windows storage server) they are painful. you get what you pay for

when i removed KMS from a test 2008r2 box i uninstalled the KMS key using slmgr.vbs stops the software activation service and then removed the published DNS entry for that server. seems to work fine. to change the clients from MAK to KMS you need the "generic KMS client keys" this thread should be useful for you as it has the links in it for the keys on MS http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/41628-how-change-win-7-activation-mak-kms.html also the VAMT tool for managing licenses you might find it easier than using the CLI interface as typing in the product keys and codes to view there status can be a pain (if you using one host to activate multiple products) http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=11936

SmartInk Layer Problem with Powerpoint 2010 *Please Help!*
SHimmer45 replied to disco_samurai's topic in Educational Software
had a similar issue with win 7 and office 2010, is the os enabling "flicks"? i found that if you diabled flicks and reload word/power point the smart plugin works properly and the addin panel at the office product says "microsoft pen tools" and it allows you to write over your documents rather than acting as a mouse? not excatly your problem but something worth trying? IMO the new smart board software is ball ache and it all centres around "smartink" its a damn resource hog PS: if flicks is enabled there will be an icon in the systray with a hand in the middle of blue/green arrows -
unattended install xml domain trust relationships
SHimmer45 replied to dazza007's topic in O/S Deployment
in MDT i believe (if you have the full database installed) tag machine names to mac address for example so that machine always get the same name which means it would be renamed and it just named and added to the domain -
RESULT might give it a try at home

do you still need an app to remove/disable metro and drop to the desktop on start up?

Vodaphone have taken 4 weeks to attempt to transfer a number from one account to the other...... .morons im glad im not dealing with them. poor chap in my dept somehow got landed with it
-
i do but im sure they will dumb it down to the point where it is not "robocop" which should always be graphically violent

wordpress is a blogging platform, a couple of friends of mine who are devs HATE it when its used to build an entire site from as its not supposed to be used for that does make adding content easier and management
-
the serial tool should allow you the program to register/serial itself. i believe that adobe projects are "aware" of being imaged/ghosted/sysprepped which scrambles the license for a better word, passing the serial tool command at logon might be an easier way round this for example and save you having to manually apply it.

for adding partitions to drives i have just used the "new computer" section in the task sequence not had any issues so far, providing i remembered to give the newly created partitions a variable name if i wanted to add anything to them
-
i had issue with this so didnt set the password for the local admin and do that manually at the moment as i had an attack of "omg the password is in plain text in the answer file"

got a small linkstation at home is not bad.... used a couple in SOHO/small primaries and there pretty crap....

Stone have built a few of the server here for us (intel based) and they have been really good. Aftersale's and tech support has been good for the couple of queries (not had to use them in anger yet) and the servers are a few years old The other servers are Dell and are a mix of 1950's R410/420/520 and have been good some of the older ones are getting a little loud but the management tools are excellent and the support is fantastic, some of the pricing has done up recently but alot of suppliers can get good deals which are alot cheaper than advertised. Only used one HP server a DL360 G7 and i like it nice and quiet some of the pricing can be a bit £££ depending on options fitted but has been rock solid

went through the attempts at registering/changing from MAK (which is what it was asking for after the win 7 install completed) ti KMS. get a funky message about needs to be from a upgrade source not full retail yada yada. relented and put the mak in
-
already have KMS setup and running here but havent needed to use that tool before. if its coded into the bios might still have some issues even with VAMT thankfully only this one laptop at this stage...
-
ball ache in other words if you brought 30 of them or something, o well have to use a MAK then as i doubt Fujistu will give me a different bios....
-
Yes Fujistu im looking at you. Lifebook AH512 after disabling the quickboot function its still ignoring the install dvd's etc, so after looking at their manual which sheds no light i resort to contacting the technical team. "you need to enable xxx option" its greyed out "i see well you need to perform a bios upgrade which will enable you to change this" ok thanks... your having a bubble have vendors got so paranoid about users nuking their installs that they resort to this? madness next issue is that it wont accept a KMS type key due to the type of hardware it is install on....... (and this disk works a treat elsewhere) grrrr /rant
-
Are you making any changes to the partition during your deployment. i found if you modded the global variable for the partition in the "new computer" stage when it configures the disk and this change isnt updated in the "install OS" section of your TS it will fail. (after checking this i recreated the image with the same settings and it worked so i put it down to an iffy capture" Does anything show up in the smsts.log on the client? iirc it dumps this to minit folder in the root of c:\
