Computer Hardware specifications to run Cubase and sibelius
SHimmer45 replied to genesis's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
id recommend a hardware midi card as well, some sounds chipsets dont play very nicely and the latency is horrid even with tuning using openasio. we have been using an M-audio 96 pci card for years and has a range of inputs and straight forward controls -
saw this last night enjoyed it once it got going, as usual they leave it opened ended so if they want to add extra films they can imo. havent some of the actors signed up for long term contracts as well?

+1 on Dos_Box other specific area's worth spending some time on are imo deployment tools (windows AIK MDT etc) how profiles work printer Queue options/setup but it all depends on what you are responsible for.

kyocera used to be really good at providing the tools for your own servicing and firmware upgrades this is now sadly not the case anymore unless anyone else can correct me..

paper pick up/clutching system slipping. the iffy colour output can be a sign of a faulty/worn photoconductor on the colour toner

Robert Jordans WoT there is enough scope in the books to make a couple of stand aloneish stories and see what the reception is like

there trying to sell googledocs with a little bit of their stuff tacked on. the chap we had kept going back to googledocs, when we asked him to ignore the google products and focus on the realsmart product he really struggled. disappointing

from memory you need to have unallocated space on the volume you want to shrink to give more space to one you want to expand. so you will need to shrink D: and then expand C: onto the freed space
-
+1 on disk part.

smoothwall express again open source with a decent community behind it and lots of easy to use information about adding Dans Guardian Snort etc etc to it

Profile pruning - What to keep and what can go...?
SHimmer45 replied to AJWhite1970's topic in Windows 7
i tend to be quite brutal and can get a profile down to about 25-30mb any more cutting and it starts to moan. only thing i leave in app data roaming/local is the microsoft settings and thats about it. -

Missing share & permissions for new users
SHimmer45 replied to boomish's topic in Windows Server 2012
your importing new users via SIMS, so you have a plugin to auto import data then if you manually add a user in AD does it create the share correctly? -
Missing share & permissions for new users
SHimmer45 replied to boomish's topic in Windows Server 2012
so your doing folder redirection for a users by the sounds of it? when you create a new user does a folder not appear in the path specified in the profile path? what does event viewer on the client say after the user has logged in as this will usually point you in the correct direction (which is usually a permission issue) are the new users members of the correct group (assuming your folder redirection policy is different for staff and pupils in terms of the locatios) -

ahh ok only running Hyper-V Server 2008 so looks like it would be worth changing the test bed to 2012 which means having a management machine with SVR2012 or Win8 as i think they changed server manager and the older OS's cannt connect apologies for the serious thread hijack -

SHimmer45 replied to cpjitservices's topic in Enterprise Software
i must be missing something obvious as i have only seen the export function using the Hyper-V manager tool -
the box doesnt really need to be that powerful as its unlikely to have alot of connections all at once. for example the school website is hosted on a P3 and does a cracking job

@Glennnda that be all the fuss about SVR2012 Storage Spaces/SMB3? i read a bit about people who have two complete boxes with one for live fall over (so you pull a plug on one box and the other detects its missing) but could quite get my head around how AD would work with that as that is essentially what having multi DC's and GC's is for) -
Pro's and Cons - Hyper-V vs VMWare
SHimmer45 replied to cpjitservices's topic in Enterprise Software
i have been looking at Hyper-V as well (been testing hyper-v server 2008 ) and so far been please with it runs nicely and is pretty straight forward getting something simple up and running, im just using local storage at the moment so havent used any of the clustering bits yet as this requires SAN/shared network space i dont have currently. if you using hyper-v as role in Win Server if the host has a problem it can effect the guests (power outage etc) i need to investigate options for backing up and restoring VM's as well heard good things about veam not sure on cost though or if there are tools which MS provide for back and recovery
