flash green then orange is iirc a disk which is a "predicted failure" (well in the newer poweredge kit i wouldnt have thought they would have changed that" openmanage on the server should show a disk if its a predicted failure but still run. i have found that if you power down the server to check the config/health it might seem ok but you may get errors as the drive heats up and is used. only real way to know if a drive is faulty would be to read the smart info off the specific drive

if you have used the generic KMS key in your build or answer file activation should be silent. on one of the laptops thats misbehaving if you manually set the ip/host and port of the KMS server does it make a difference? you should also get an error/success message in the console window what does it say are they stand alone or members of your domain

in the past under support from our LEA i did it about a week before results days and then waited for patches.... if they appeared. would it be better to bring this forward then as we use exams organiser

or have a KMS server handling your licensing for office. or run ospp.vbs in the office14 folder on the workstation.

this on a more serious note the main thing is to move from server 2003 to 2012 and ranger 8 along with the usual smart board installs etc. possibly rejig the network addressing/wireless

indeed 6K a year is bonkers even if it was heavily used. no wonder people look for cheaper alternatives.

iirc a site license for CS6 (500 hundred seats) was north of 6K 2 years ago

+1 on above thats what your paying a migration/installation fee for. all you should need to do is ensure the server is up-todate and ready to have SIMS and SQL installed on it

good that they have published it, i was speaking to them last week and they had said the dates had been changed. the proposed changes to support net cant come quick enough

with our image of approx 12GB i can roll it out to 30 machines in around 30mins ish which isnt bad (thats with a 1GB backbone and 100mb to the clients) a decent network connection and ideally 1GB to the client would make it even faster the best videos i found were from a chap called the "deployment artist" on youtube

For deployment i used MDT on its own and just booted machines from USB currently, as we dont image very often however i will be looking at using WDS to out the MDT boot image to start the deployment.

@vikpaw i guess the road map would be better than nothing, since moving away from LEA support to direct with capita navigating support net still takes some getting used to lol

i havent used SCCM for adobe acrobat but im sure you still need to use the adobe deployment toolkit (adobeprtk) to activate and turn off prompts for keys/logins this was the case with CS6 and even since CS4 they still make deplying the product painful imo

is there a link on support net for the provisional release dates for this year im sure there used to be one?

changing IE to version 10 from 9 cooked my image of win7 tho it was able to apply the image but failed when appling the unattend, ended up adding it using DISM. Further looking it was a setting in the unattended that causes it to break (Specilize Pass IEWelcomeMSG needing to be set to revert change).

HP Procurve, still have some 2524's running in the edge without any issues and silly uptime i expect.

I used 2008R2 to backup to a buffalo NAS using XCOPY and a scheduled task, i created a user for the job and added it to the RUN JOB AS in security options and it worked. i didnt realise there was an issue with adding a user to the RUN JOB AS function. if its just sitting there is it waiting for a prompt in the script perhaps

if i had one of those at work it would be great and also double up doing some number crunching overnight

the biggest thing with those xeon workstations is you would get 16threads in total (Hyperthread enabled) a later i7 on paper is going to be quicker but you would have less cores, and depending on your work load that might make a difference

dont ICT direct do refurbed worksations which are attractively priced for multicore/socket systems
